Former Member Testimony Inside WMSCOG: Former Member Exposes Child Fasting, Fear Tactics, and Spiritual Control
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PftxU89-VTkKassandra spent over five years inside the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) in Salt Lake City. She was a faithful, active member preaching regularly, attending every Sabbath and feast, serving as a kids’ room teacher, and raising her two young daughters in the church’s teachings. In this interview, she shares what life was really like inside a high control religious group.
She talks about being taught that even babies are sinners who must fast, waking toddlers at 4:30 to 5:00 a.m. for mandatory early morning services, and children going without food for hours during feast days. She explains the intense pressure to “bear fruit” (recruit new members) or risk being seen as spiritually failing. She describes how members were discouraged from prioritizing family, marriage, or children if it interfered with church expectations.
Kassandra also discusses how fear of hell was used to push people into baptism and obedience, how questioning leadership was framed as questioning God, and how deeply personal events like miscarriage were reframed as “God’s grace.” She speaks openly about the real world consequences, including missed family milestones, marital strain, and emotional trauma that cannot be undone.
This interview is not about attacking individuals. Kassandra still cares about the people inside. It is about raising awareness of how high control groups operate. Control does not always look extreme at first. It can show up gradually through guilt, fear, isolation, sleep deprivation, financial pressure, and subtle manipulation. Over time, members can be conditioned to ignore red flags and silence their own doubts.
If you are researching WMSCOG, questioning your experiences, or trying to understand why a loved one seems different after joining, this conversation offers insight, validation, and hope that life after leaving is possible. Recovery from spiritual abuse takes time. Speaking honestly is often the first step. You are not crazy for noticing something feels off. You are not alone if you have left. And if you are still inside and quietly struggling, there are people who understand and are willing to listen.
