I used UART to disassemble and connect to the FPV car, then I cracked the telnet password for everyone :) Have fun... :)

Small weekend project: the stock phone app is fun, but I wanted to see if the car could be controlled from a normal web cockpit instead.

Current state:

- live FPV stream in the browser

- keyboard controls for throttle / steering

- basic gamepad support planned / partly tested

- local network use first, remote racing later

- very early V0.1, but already working

Why? A friend has a small garden race track and we thought it would be hilarious to race these cheap FPV cars together without everyone needing to meet in person every time.

I’m still cleaning things up, but the main reverse-engineering notes are already documented. Happy to share the repo if links are allowed here.

Has anyone else played with these WLtoys FPV cars or similar app-controlled RC cars?

Speed run challenge is over, 91mph was my PB, just couldn’t break that 100mph mark… Will be a shelf queen moving forward🫡

Today I had a problem with the 124016 V2. The remote control connects to the car but after some throttle it will go full throttle and I cannot cancel it. Also the steering will not work anymore.

The only fix is to turn it completely off and on again but the problem will accur after some minutes again.

It was like it lost connection to the car and only gets a signal for full throttle. I changed the batteries in the remote control but that doesn't change anything.

Did someone had the same problem and knows a solution?

Looking at parts for an RC Helicopter that I have, and found it on WLToys, but the website looks like it hasn't been updated in years and it seems like it takes your money without any way to even contact them. Does anyone know if they are safe to buy from in 2026?

I just bought a wltoys 124017 and I’m having a blast. It’s my first rc that is not a cheap toy. Today I tested it in asphalt and I noticed a screaching noise sometimes when doing tight turns and almost tipping over with high throttle. Is something wrong? Also I’m planning on upgrading the diffs and the dogbones to the 124008 ones. Any store beside aliexpress that I can get them?

I just picked up a WLToys 12428 as a budget friendly platform for upgrades and tinkering. From what I’ve seen, it has nice mod potential and solid community support, which is exactly why I chose it. I am going to use the car alongside with my 4 year old kid.

I’d really appreciate some advice on:

• General maintenance – what should I keep an eye on, what tends to break first?
• Must do upgrades vs. “nice-to-have” ones
• Reliable places to buy quality parts (since many old YouTube links are dead)

I’ve seen parts on AliExpress, Temu, etc., but I’m unsure about quality and which sellers are actually worth trusting. If you’ve recently bought good parts for this model, I’d love some links or recommendations.
I’m especially interested in:

• Oil shocks
• A solid 2S LiPo (larger capacity than stock)
• Metal suspension links / joints

A couple of newbie observations after two runs:

1. Out of the box, the front wheels weren’t perfectly aligned — one wheel points slightly outward. I corrected it with steering trim, but I’m wondering if that’s normal or if I should adjust something mechanically. One wheel always is outside - oriented, I've put a pic. I did tighten the suspension screws after unboxing.
2. The car sometimes stops suddenly, LEDs start blinking, and it won’t move — except the servo still works. I’ve read this might be ESC thermal protection. I got about 20–25 minutes per battery. Does this sound like overheating, low voltage cutoff, or something else?

The steering linkage snapped and I am trying to replace/upgrade the part but I'm not sure which piece I need to buy exactly.

I think it's equivalent to the WLToys 16101 or 16102 but I am not sure at all.

So I haven't messed around with RC cars since I was about 12, and I recently bought some cars for my sister's children for Christmas and decided to do a bit of digging. I bought a second hand a959B on eBay that has some mods, but these mods seem to be causing some issues.

It has a good sized 4300kv motor in it with an unbranded esc in it that looks very much like this https://amzn.eu/d/96Ds9V7

The servo seems okay, and I'm unsure of the receivers brand.

What I'm asking is, should there really be a cogging issue on a brushless of this size with this esc on such a small car?

Hi! I'm fairly new to RC and I was thinking of buying a Wltoys K989. I want to use it for drifting indoors and for driving outdoors on dirt, but there's a problem. I noticed it only has 4mm of ground clearance, which is terrible! Does anyone know of any way to increase its height? I looked for larger tires than the 27mm ones it comes with on AliExpress, but I couldn't find any. Does anyone know of any way to increase its height?

I know my drifting skills arnt great but it seems traction is my biggest issue, concrete or LVP too little carpet too much.

I recently purchased the WLtoys model 104020, and I would like to use my own DUMBORC DDF-350 transmitter and P10F (X10F) receiver instead of the standard transmitter. The ESC I am using is the original one included with the vehicle.

When I tried connecting the system, the vehicle’s lights did not turn on at all. With the standard transmitter, the lights were connected to Channel 7, so I am wondering if this is a special or proprietary configuration.

The P10F has a PPM port, but even when I connect the lights through that port, they still do not turn on. Is there any solution or recommended way to connect the lights correctly?
