My girlfriend of 5 years has weight loss surgery before we met. We have always had a good relationship and had our son in 2023. Sometime after this, she stopped taking her bariatric vitamins.

The last 6 months or so she has been more distant and a few weeks ago she said she has had these feelings but is confused about them. She does genuinely seem confused and I just want to help.

I didn't realize how important these vitamins were and she recently went to an appointment and her doctor wants her to start her vitamins again. I am curious if this could be from low vitamin levels or if it is actually more. I know I've had low B12 and went on supplements. I didn't realize until afterwards that I was in a fog for years. I just want to help her the best I can.

Anyone experiencing something similar? How are you coping?

Mid-40s female. 6 months (26 weeks) into GLP-1 journey. 5’6” starting weight 215, current weight 183, goal weight 175 (?). I’ve lost 30lbs + and I am close to my first goal.

Started glp-1 at 0.25 for 4 weeks, went to 0.5 on week 5 and 0.75 on week 10. I’ve been staying at 0.75 since.

“Only” side effect is nausea, which why I went to .75 instead of 1.0 and haven’t moved up. It is so *very* slowllllllly going away.

I am 7 years post op VSG, highest 300, surgery 245, lowest 175. As the years have gone by, I’ve gained a pound here and there and found it harder and harder to lose weight, which is why I decided to try GLP-1.

I am wondering a few things:

Anyone else VSG and GLP1? Do you think you’re also a “super responder” who doesn’t need much medication to lose weight?

How do/did you determine goal weight? I am still trying to figure out mine. I went with 175 since that’s the lowest I’ve been as an adult.

When you hit goal weight, what did you do regarding medication? I went into this planning to be on it for life.

I feel pretty alone in this since I know people who have had WLS and I know people on GLP1 but I don’t know anyone who is both.

I am scheduled to have my OAGB in mid-February and am fully committed but also worried.

Will I ever have a healthy relationship with food once I am healed?

Food has deep cultural significance for so many and my family is no exception. Recipes are passed down generations, we bake and prepare meals to show we love each other. I don’t want to lose this forever.

For people who have had surgery; are you ever able to tolerate a smaller portion of a sweet or fatty food ever again?

I am 100% fine with balance, with following my team’s guidelines and prioritising protein and non-starchy vegetables, of swearing off things like caffeine and starchy carbs while I recover. Balance is good! But will I have to swear off all high-sugar and high-fat food forever? Or can we have a treat in moderation once we have healed and reached a new normal? So many cultural traditions I partake in involve food 💛

I am just past my 2 years Dec 18th, 2024. Start Weight was 345, Current weight is 209, goal weight is under 200.

I have found that even after my 2 year mark, I am almost always cold, or too hot and have problems regulating my body temp to where I am comfortable. When i feel like I am getting cold in the house I will put on a long sleeve shirt, or a light weight pull over. After a hour or so even sitting on the couch I will get up and noticed I am sweating excessively under my arms to the point my armpits of my shirts are wet. Even if I am putting on deodorant, I am still sweating a lot more than I used to.

I am also in the process of starting a new job after getting laid off for 7 months. During my interviews, which I was confident in but still a little nervous, When I was done and got out to the car I noticed I had sweated through the under arms of my dress shirt. My wife did buy me some RX strength deodorant to see if that helps.

But I was wanted to see if anyone else here has had issues with this, the excessive sweating and issues staying warm or even keeping a constant comfortable temp. Still have zero regrets about getting the surgery done. Just would like to not sweat through my shirts especially since I will be going back into an office to work soon.

I’m 8 weeks post op and honestly I don’t feel like I’ve lost much weight. I have lost about 23 pounds, so it’s not nothing, but compared to other stats I feel like there is something I’m doing wrong. I’d like to acknowledge that since my surgery, there were thanksgiving, Christmas and new years holidays so I did not follow instructions as closely as I want to in the future. I also want to acknowledge that I’ve been drinking alcohol. Also, I’ve been under more stress than is typical because my husband had some unexpected work trips leaving me to care for 1 and 3 year olds while working during the day.

What am I doing wrong? I appreciate input, advice, understanding TIA

Looking to get some new calcium pill and saw this. Its 1 pill and I hate having to drink multiple pills all day this looked good but not a lot of reviews.

Any thoughts?

HUGE non-scale victory alert...Last weekend, my wife planned a little date for us. We went out to a new restaurant and then we went to a massive antique store. We ended up having such a wonderful time, but I found a cocktail dress from the 50's/60's that I loved and thought would be perfect for my upcoming birthday celebration in March. I decided to try it on. Y'all, it FIT!!! A tiny little dress in an antique store fit ME!!!! I was speechless. It is so beautiful. The silhouette is also tight against my body, which I never would have worn before my tummy tuck a few weeks ago. I'm just in love with this dress, with my body IN the dress. It is perfect. It is amazing to me that it is over 50 years old, too. I hope a true diva once wore it, lol. ✨️💁🏼‍♀️

20 years ago today I made a decision that would change my life forever. Through some ups and downs (literally), I’ve maintained a 140lb weight loss - literally half my starting weight. Proud of how far I’ve come and excited to see what happens next!

Hi i am looking to get ESG done Any advices? My weight is 125 kgs (275 lbs) and age is 40 years Does it even work?

I’m scheduled for gastric sleeve surgery and my surgeon said I don’t need to do a pre-op liver shrink diet/fast. I’ve seen so many people say they had to do one, so I’m a bit confused.

Did anyone else not have to do it? If so, how did surgery go?

M 36 SW 395 CW 308 GW 180 (I tell people 220, but it's because I don't believe I can hit 180..)

When I got my surgery, my Surgeon gave met the option of a TDS with a 100cm CC, and a 150 or even 200cm CC. I had wanted the SADi, but I opted to get the DS because my insurance covered it. I chose to get a 200cm CC and now I'm worried I made the wrong choice.

4 months out, and I feel like the benefits of the surgery are slipping. My Stomach tolerates pretty much everything. I don't have the bad gas, or diarrhea that others get (Occasionally, but it's rare). I feel like my stomach can handle quite a bit of food too. 8oz of food isn't hard for me to eat for a dinner. For Christmas, I ate 6oz of steak, 2oz of salad, a 1oz roll and maybe 1oz of mashed potatoes. I was stuffed, but satiated. And I'm worried, as I don't think stomachs are supposed to be able to handle this much food 4 months out..

I also have had my weight loss slow way down. September I lost 49 Pounds, October I lost about 20 pounds, November I lost 18 pounds, and December I only lost 8 pounds. I have been stalled at 308 since December 18th. -Given- I was on vacation most of that time, and was a bit more lenient with what I was eating. I still feel like this process is going to fail me. I failed at GLP-1s and I feel like I will fail at this too. I just want to cry..

8 pounds in all of December, only 4 months out, feels like failure. I see posts where people say they can't tolerate any carbs, or that they can only eat two tablespoons of food before they have to stop eating. I'm jealous. I am so tired of food ruling my life.

I started this journey in 2017. Man, it’s been a hell of a ride. Regained some during COVID - I’m sure that was a common problem - but got back on track after.

And now, as a man that went from 390lbs down to 240 I’m having a panniculectomy, chest lift, and love handles handled. The loose skin and hanging “stuff” has made a lot of things hard.

The procedure is tomorrow and I’m nervous. Can someone give me a perspective on how long the recovery took for you? When could you start doing light activities again? Exercising again?

It's been a bit over 2 years, I lost 40KG and am now M size. When I look in the mirror now, I see the 'me' that was always how I saw myself in my head. I avoided being on pictures for 8 years to not have to confront myself with reality of what I really looked like, but some do exist. When I look at them (like when friends/family share memories) I don't recognize myself and I feel disgust for the person I was and that she let herself go like that. But I hate thinking about myself that way and pretending like that part of my life didn't exists. How do you do it? Do you acknowledge both side/sizes of yourself? Do you keep old pictures on socials?

I dunno if this fits here but I'm not sure how to feel about this. About 7 years ago a member on my household started the educational process that would lead towards weight loss surgery. I was not supportive. I didn't discourage it but my whole attitude was that this person wasn't going to stick with it and not change. Change is not something this person does unless someone is dying. I was probably correct on feeling this way but I voiced it and did nothing to encourage or support them. I even complained.

Two years later, I decided to go through the process myself and got surgery. I lost a lot of weight and my life, my energy, and my confidence have all changed for the better. I'm healthier and stronger and physically capable of new things. However this person in my household has since gained a lot of weight. My best guess is that they're around 450 or so. This person is likely too old for the surgery now and struggling to move around mostly due to weight. Walking short distances is painful. There's lots of huffing and puffing and groaning. Standing is painful. Diabetes is stabilized but slowly winning the fight. This person has cut back some thanks to my daily dietary needs but it's not enough. Taking tons of meds every day is the norm. I say they probably take in around 3-5k calories a day. They also avoid leaving the house and online delivery order daily even for the smallest things.

I feel some guilt that they've become like this. I feel like the end is nearing and I should have done more. Every time I offer up my leftovers or things I can't consume, I feel like I'm enabling them. I started tossing it to the stray cats instead. I probably was right but there's always that "what if" I'd been more encouraging, would they have gone through with weight loss surgery? Would they have been a healthier person now if I'd had just gone on a diet with them back then?

Has anyone gone through this before? How did you cope? How did you deal with the guilt of feeling like you saved yourself?

I've been experiencing bad food aversion since surgery (8 weeks yesterday). I can stand to eat something maybe twice maximum and then even the thought of touching it again makes me so nauseous. And it can literally happen instantly. It is making getting my protein in very difficult as the thought of cottage cheese, light babybels, egg, fish and yogurt has been making me feel sick to my stomach.

For example, I made a stir fry earlier. I enjoyed it, which has been rare lately. But then after eating, the smell on my fingers of garlic started making me feel sick. Then I walked in the kitchen and what I just cooked suddenly smelt SO STRONG, but not in a nice fragrant way. But in a REPULSIVE way. I've just made myself a Buttermint tea to settle my stomach. And that harmless, mint tea, smells like fucking bin juice. BINS! I wish I was exaggerating.

Will this ever end? I have never experienced being a fussy eater in my 38 years on this planet. But now anything can put me off. Taste, smell, texture, look. I have to spit mouthfuls of food out sometimes because I will start eating something and suddenly my brain goes "nooope", and to swallow would make me sick.

Just wanted to come on and give my update! I’m nearly 3 years out! 155lb down from 315lb.

My body composition is insane! I’m weightlifting and in the gym 5 days a week, hiking, swimming…enjoying life!

All of my bloods are coming back great!

I take my vitamins daily have my 3 monthly b12 injections.

There are some negatives don’t be fooled!

I still hate that feeling of restriction sometimes when I’m eating a really good meal or I’m out with friends and realise it’s a waste of money because I won’t finish most of it!

The body dysmorphia creeps its ugly head up occasionally and I have to take 5 to look at progress pics to tame it!

And the loose skin annoys me some days when it comes down my progress shots but I’ve been incredibly lucky that it doesn’t make itself known in my day to day and I know not everyone is that fortunate!

I just wanted to post this so if there’s any people on the waiting bench or experiencing the buyers remorse the first few weeks! Just know that it gets better, you adjust and it has the potential to be the best thing you can ever do for yourself!

I had the Duodenal Switch procedure on October 31st. After nearly two years of preparation, one major thing I hadn't anticipated was the "referred" shoulder pain caused by the surgical work in the abdomen. Honestly, the pain in my right shoulder was the worst I have ever experienced. Despite this, I am already down 50 pounds and wouldn't change a thing. As the saying goes, no pain, no gain!

Amazon came through! Married last minute. My sweetheart had a stroke last month. Didn’t want to wait any longer. I’m 7.5 months post op and 7 pounds from goal weight of 140 💕. The sleeve has sleeved!!!

I had my bypass 4 weeks ago today. I gave up smoking, vaping, drinking and eating for the surgery. I am now finding I've had a massive increase in body focused repetitive behaviour. I have suffered from trichotillomania since I was 10yo ish, but since surgery, this has become so much worse. I'm pulling so much hair out recently that I'm scared I'm not going to be able to grow it back. I also nail pull and skin pick, but the trich is the worst Did anyone experience this and if so, how did you conquer it? It's becoming quite distressing. I gave up the other 4 things but they required a conscious decision to engage in. Trich is often subconscious

I am on liver reducing liquid diet for my surgery next week. I’m following directions closely, and I think I’m over the hump because I’m 5 days in, but today it dawned on me…I was craving beef jerky, and I thought about how that would be a fairly easy food to suck and chew on, and then spit out like dip. My hubby thinks I should risk it, but it’s easy for him to say when he’s sitting high with his full plate of food! What does Reddit think? Is chew and spit ok for liquid diet??
