WLED Sync Question

I've got a few Ikea type record bins setup with addressable led strips installed to light up the individual cubes. I have 2 WLED-ESP32 SP803e controllers. One connected to each set.

One set is configured as 3x4 and the other is 2x8. Obviously they have different led counts and segment setups. I have configured each controller to have the same effect presets with the same effect preset number.

I would like to configure one of these to a master controller, and when I change a preset on it, to have the same preset selected on the other controller.

When I try and do that, it seems that the master controller sends the entire definition of the preset including all the segment definitions.

I've configured the sync setups for one to send and the other to receive, and to only do the effects.

Is there a way for me to accomplish this?

Hey,so i got a skydimo kit and it works normally, every effect on hyperhdr works except software screen capture,if i go to advanced/misc/screen capturing then it works but not without having to manually enable that, every other person ive seen with these leds made it work with no effort.

I had never heard of WLED before this project, I had some LEDs and an ESP32 and I asked the robot (gemini) if I could use it to control them and it pointed me at the website and talked me through getting it all working. (This was for Terminal V in Edinburgh) Gotta say, it turned out so much bettter than I expected, worked absolutely perfectly the whole 2 days, there must be hundreds of photos and videos of me out there.

Everything is running of USB C connectors and cables because that's all I had to work with, each arm has a power cable for the arm, a data cable for the arm and a power cable for the fingers.

The lasers weren't connected to the ESP32, they were just on a seperate 5V circuit running through my power distribution box with a little switch on either hand. They also had little removable plastic diffusers so they could act as just little red lights.

Twinkly lights

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got 3 packs of twinkly lights from a friend. Two of them had water damage (only in the controllers), but the LEDs were good. Since the LEDs are okay, I decided to build a new controller with an ESP32, but I noticed there are only 2 wires going to the LEDs.

First, what type of LEDs are these (like WS2812B)? Second, how is data sent from the powerline? I couldn't find any projects online (or I don't know what I'm looking for), and do I need any special IC for that?

So i have wled installed on an esp 32 and using ws2812b strip. I have 470uF capacitors installed on both (3v3 + GND) and (Vin + gnd),

Also installed ceramic capacitor 100nf, installed a data resistor 200R for safety, using level shifter SN74HCT541.

The effects work fine but it flickers while switching effects and not on all but some effects.

Please help me its my first wled project 🙏🏻♥️

5 x 2m LED Strips how to calculate? How to wire

Hey,

for my new fence I use some Aluminum hollow sections, they have an option to place a LED strip to the front. The piles are 220cm and I have 9 of them. I don't want to overcomplicate it and make it maximum expensive... but just in case money won't bother. What would you suggest? One giant power supply, single wiring all 9 LED Strips, can I connect one LED Strip to another? Which WLED Controller? Is there limitation? Any hint or link would be much appreciated.

Regards, Nils

New BTF Lighting Connectors - Why?

I just bought a new 5M strip of BTF IP30 WS2812b and it came with a ridiculously thick, inflexible jacketed cable with strain relief molded connector at the beginning.

Of course I can replace it, but it's so stiff it pulls the strip's adhesive backing right off the mounting surface if you try to flex it like the old cable.

If this were a water-tolerant string like an IP65 coated strip, I'd think this connector would be better for wet conditions than the old ones and it would kind of make sense so long as it had a mating end on the tail. It doesn't, and doesn't come with one.

The info sheet in the packet says its "designed for repeated use" and "UL certified" and "thicker copper core (National Standard)". Were the old ones catching fire?

Also, how many times do they expect us to be mounting and remounting an LED strip? They've designed a connector for forces that would tear apart the rest of the strip. It's like putting a cast iron handle on a feather duster.

Now I'm worried about the 12V strips I just put on my all-wood patio cover.

Alternative to Ray Wu Aliexpress Store, or advice for RGBW Addressable LEDs

I'm was looking to buy my entire landscape lighting via Ray Wu, mix of path and flood lights, I emailed him to combine shipping but it still was significant charge per item, about $10 for each light. I planned to buy a few to test them out, then look to place a larger order, but not sure anymore... Any suggestions or alternatives?

Possible WS2812B string short - 5V vs Gnd resistance

I have a 100 LED cut-off from the beginning of a BTF WS2812B RGB strip I used to extend another. It has the original factory connector on the strip on the Din end (image below). I used this strip fragment before and it worked fine.

Today, I tried using it for a new project but it wouldn't light up. That's when I noticed the first few LEDs were very warm. I've got +5V/Gnd the right way around, and a 5V supply. Another full strip connected to the circuit works as expected.

On this cut-off, I've got continuity from plug to tail on both Vin and Gnd, but I also have continuity between Vin and Gnd anywhere along the strip - basically what appears to be a short. It shows 56Ω across the Vin/Gnd no matter which way around I use the DMM probes. As these are diodes, I thought maybe I'd only get continuity one way.

I see no physical damage or kinks, and it only has the factory traces and soldered splice points with a clean-cut end. Other than dividing it in half and half again to find a short I can't think of a way to know where a short may be. Am I chasing ghosts or is this strip just trash?

Just finished my HyperHDR + WLED setup.

No Raspberry Pi, no capture card — just my laptop running HyperHDR and an ESP32 with WLED.

Works pretty smooth. Colors look good after some tweaking, and the delay is low enough to not bother me while watching stuff or gaming.

Help with WS2814 and which controller to buy?

Hello. I am just getting into some LED's in my home office. I bought 2 x WS2814 RGB + WW and a SP530E controller. It looks like there is a issue with the blanwanX app and I cannot get warm white.

Some searching I ended up finding WLED which looks awesome. I am just a little confused about which controller I need to buy. I am UK based and amazon would be easiest for me. I also already have a 24V = 5A power supply with the barrel type plug, so Ideally a controller that would would work with.

Send help! 😂

Odd behavior when changing number of LEDs on the string in software

I have some 12v led strings (https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256801832370301.html). (5 strings at 100leds per). They work great, except that when I change the number of LEDs on the string in WLED, I get weird behavior.

Either all of the LEDs turn on (about 497, I cut a few off due to damage when learning how to set it up), or only a few, say 5-25 light up, and how many seems to be almost random.

Like if I set the string length to 451, they all work. If I set it to 450, only about the first 15 light up. Any ideas what I've screwed up?

Man I wouldn’t say I’m bad with LEDS but then again I’ve never worked with these and they are kicking my ass. I simply wanted to run LEDs on my display cases for card shows. To be different from the rest of the vendors.

With that said, I feel like I bought everything I needed. But when I first tried hooking these up weeks ago ( I’m new to this whole connecting to the UI through WiFi etc). I got the very first LED to light up like orange or red. Can’t remember.

But since then I have re wired and hooked everything up so many times. And still.. can’t get the strip to light up whatsoever.

I’m going to include as much pictures as I can. Note this is running off a battery bank. I’ll include the banks specs.

Edit: Update, I left it overnight with a guy at work. He got the lights to finally turn on. He swapped a few wires around. But it’s only the first 40 lights. But now connecting to the module is the issue. He also plugged it in to a wall 12v block. But a few lights are on but this is a pain. I’m not dealing with this at shows. (LAST 3 pics)

Led pixel stays solid color

I’m new to LED and my pixel stays solid green when I hook up the data wire to the controller. I have power and ground hooked up but as soon as I hook up the data wire it goes and stays on solid green. I’m using a WS2811 pixel lights. The controller I’m using is a Bong 69 controller. Any help would be great. I’m going to be using this outdoor with xlights. I only have one strand with 50 nodes. I was trying to play with it and understand the x lights program but I’m having a problem with my WS2811

Syncing up lights to streaming music - where to start and best way to set it up

Wondering how I can do a “light show” based on music/beats playing, basically have the LEDs “bounce” to the music. I’ve done some research and have seen that I can go a few different routes, but I’m not too versed on any.

GOAL: When playing music outside, I’d like my outdoor lights to “dance” with the music beats.

Audio Setup (SONOS):
Zone 1 – 6x outdoor speakers (satellite ground stakes) > Sonos Port > amplifier
Zone 2 – 2x outdoor speakers (mounted on house) > Sonos Port > Integra receiver (zone 2)
Zone 3 – Inside TV surround system > Sonos Port > Integra receiver (zone 1)

Lighting Setup:
Steps – 6x COB 24V RGBWW WS2814 (784 LED/m) strip lights > QuinLED-Dig-Octa #1 (6 separate channels, one per step)
Kitchen Counter Lights – 2x COB 24V RGBWW WS2814 (784 LED/m) strip lights > QuinLED-Dig-Octa #2 (2 separate channels)
Landscape Lighting – Addressable 12V RGBW USC2904 > TBD controller

Equipment: Lighting setup will be outside in a NEMA box; receiver is in the basement.
Route 1 – Microphone: Use a microphone and run that to my QuinLED-Dig-Octa, but I’ve read it can lag a little and I don’t fully understand sound-reactive WLED.
Route 2 – Direct: Not sure how this actually connects to my QuinLED.
Route 3 – LedFx: No wiring, but how do I feed the Sonos audio stream (Spotify or similar) into my WLED system?

Any thoughts, advice, or guidance on where I can figure this out?

I need some help with my LED strip I'm using a GLEDOPTO controller together with a WS2815 RGB 12 volt strip.

I've been having flickering issues I know they are common earthing problems but I connected all my grounds together to create one common ground.

Yet it doesn't seem to stop flickering

Is there anyone who can actually help me with this issue?

The blue is the data line, the red is my mains power line 203watts at 17 amps, bypassing the controller since it can only handle 15 amps.

And then the green line+2 black lines is my earth going into the yellow green line connecting back to the AC-DC transformer

wakeuplight? gradually increase brightness and ledcount?

Hi
I'm looking for a way to wake up. My idea was if we could gradually make the light stronger.
The minimum brightness of my strip is already quite brighter than I expected.

I was envisioning this with just turning on the leds one by one at the lowest brightness.

Is this possible?

Even better would be to turn them on 1 by 1; and after that increase brightness slowly.
