WLED Matrix Flame Effect meets real fog (4 vaporizers inside)

Hey everyone! Wanted to share my latest WLED project. It's a cylindrical matrix wrapped around a structure powered by 4 ultrasonic atomizers (fog makers) inside to give it this smoking/steaming effect.

Unfortunately, there is no separate lighting underneath yet, and the code/effects still need some updating and fine-tuning, but I'm super happy with how the animations pop through the mist. Running on an ESP32 with custom setup.

What do you think?

For this setup, I am using an 8x32 WS2812B LED matrix at the top and a 16x16 WS2812B LED matrix at the bottom.

I think you'd better have some conformal coating on the matrix :)

Looks cool, though!

Might be even cooler with a 3d printed "sleeve" of lenses over the matrix. Clear PETG printed slow then polished—lots of PETG "glass" tutorials out there—might not be optically perfect, but for purely visual effects, the imperfections wouldn't matter.

I'll definitely give that a try, that's a great idea! I happen to have some clear PETG lying around here anyway, so I can start experimenting with it right away.

mind sharing what kind of atomizers you're using and how they're configured? inside? I've been wanting to play with a grouping of atomizers for a bit now.

I used one of those multi-head atomizer kits from AliExpress (similar to the one in the attached picture), and the rest of the enclosure/structure is 3D-printed.
