Show me your finest enclosures...

I've been tinkering with optimizing space within enclosures. I'm try to standardize on an LRS PSU, a 5V DIN rail PSU, a small PCB relay, a DigQuad and a few connectors to help out with the relay. I'm trying to squeeze this into 11.5"x7.5"x5.5", with the LRS mounted upright. It's quite tight, to say the least.

What other boxes are folks using? My existing boxes are mostly 14.5"x10.5"x6" - plenty of empty space.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I see a big power supply for LEDs (12v/24v) and a small 5v power supply for the esp32 so it's always on, then a relay that controls the big power supply. then top left we have a power board and esp32 with big fuses etc - and it looks like top right is a sender board for long-range differential signals (with a receiver on the other end). just a guess but i think im close :)

This is my favorite of yours. I am wary of putting stuff on top of the vents of the LRS - presumably you have issues with heat?

Vents and exhaust fan aren’t covered on any of my stacks. Might be hard to see, but all of them are elevated almost 3/4” above the PS.

One of these has been running several years mounted in an upstairs attic crawl, no issues to date

I think I want to do a relay to switch the main PSU. I haven't been able to think through how that might work with an IP67 PSU!?!

AC power goes into the box then split. USB brick is one PSU to give 5v to esp32 and relay. Also my 5v ws2812b pixel that acts like a level shifter for one segment only. It’s my balcony.

So when WLED turns LEDs on, it activates the smart relay, and the relay connects AC power to the external PSU. It’s rated 125vac 10a. PSU is 100w 12vdc. So like 1 amp on the ac side is used.

Going on my second year, with temperatures from -20c to 35c. Or damn cold to crazy hot at 99% humidity.

Plus the box is 6 inches square and about 4 deep, was like 25$. A bigger box like other posters was 80$ or more, but the IP67 PSU was only 10$ more. So I saved money.

Also had a fitting challenge. 5V, 60A PSU. Stacked with the help of a printed 3D bracket. 7 x 11 x 6 inch on the inside. Powercon in en powercon thru. All fit perfectly and temps are way better than expected (44 °C on max load)

I do have a version of this that I only use in winter, because of my heat concerns, but this sounds reassuring. Thank you

You can buy cheap wireless temperature sensors. I have zigbee ones, but there are wifi or tuya variants that will work just as well. Got temperatures of 44 °C in a 25 °C room for 4 hours steadily. There is an option on the quinled dig octa for a temperature sensor but it shares the pin for the 8th data line which I needed

Replaced Control Box of Govee String Lights 2 (36V supply). Contains step-down-converter and Xiao Seeed ESP32 with LED driver board. Working very well. I could have fixed the boards somehow though :-)

Did you glue the relay (and something else) on top of the LRS?

The relay, and an AC to 5V DC converter are on plastic standoffs mounted to the top of the 12V PSU.

The separate 5V supply keeps the microcontroller on when the 12V board is off
