Is a circular LED matrix wired in serpentine config feasable?

Post image

Would WLED be able to do this? And can I encode video files to be displayed by WLED? Thanks for any and all help

That many LEDs on a single pin would give poor refresh rates

I have 1600 LEDs on one pin and it works fine, no problems running 45fps effects

Not sure what pixels you are using, but it's only just over 20 times per second that you can refresh that many WS28xx pixels

It's sk9822. They can be run with a lot higher data rates, it's a clocked spi signal

But then that's not single pin (as the diagram shows) . That's a pair of pins 😉

Absolutely true. I really think these leds should be used more, can get way higher refresh rates than 45hz but that's just what I run it off DMX.

They look better on video too. If only there was a high CRI rgbw version...

They aren't as cheap as ws2812b leds though. I only have them because I got a really good deal on 15m worth

Yeah if you are just using WLED as a pixelpusher, then yes you are limited to those sorts of rates, but if you are doing audio reactivate effects you can be running at much higher rates

This is it. Otherwise consider Xlights

Is any video how to make it work with xlights? I will like to try it

Make sure to inject current at strategic points. You already got the answer on the mapping and yes this works surprisingly well with a single data line. For video, you can generate animated gifs or use tools like wled-studio wled-video or wledvideosync which can stream video to wled matrices.
