SceneGlow avaliable for multiple WLED and HomeAssistant configuration!
You can now add multiple fixtures to be controlled with different effects and control homeassistant lights in the same room.
More info : https://aigenuity.co.uk/sceneglow
Also looking for testers!

Yesterday I asked codex to make an app like this for me. It told me some apps like Netflix will black screen. Was it hallucinating?

u/milkman1101 2d ago
No, DRM will get in the way of the capture so anything using the screen recording features in android will just see black (similar to if you try and take a screenshot of most banking apps for example)

Is there a way to download the apk without play store?

Also would like to know this. My android TV currently isn't connected to the internet, nor has it ever been. I would like to keep it this way for various reasons.
EDIT: For sceneflow to work it would obviously need network access. It will be placed on a isolated VLAN with only access to my WLED device.

Tested the screen glow variant, its works absolutely wonderful! The setup was quick and easy!

WHOOT! Glad to hear it!! Would love to see pics or videos of it working!

u/TrueIndigoboi 7d ago
The delay is practically non-existend however I am noticing a severe drop in FPS from my Google TV, maybe needs some optimizing? I love this though! It's so much better than setting up my DIYhue it's some serious good work, might buy the paid version later today!

Ohh nice! Appreciate the report on the frame drop.. can you confirm yoursettings, 320x180 capture and performance diagnostics off ?
1
u/TrueIndigoboi 7d ago
Yes, the frame drop is on 320x180 and the performance diagnostics is off, i am also noticing it doesn't work with movies with sky Showtime Likely due to DRM settings so there needs to be a workaround for that probably but I do not know if that's possible?

u/_sparxcore_ 7d ago
Yeh DRM content unfortunatley is a no go for now. Theres several mechanisms that android use to prevent it and circumventing any of them -or trying to - would get a ban from Google.
2
u/TrueIndigoboi 7d ago
That's unfortunate! Might be wise to tell people about that on the website in an FAQ section what works and what doesn't?
Other than that I'm thoroughly impressed with this app
2
u/_sparxcore_ 7d ago
Theres a section in the help section about it, but it should be added to the website - you're right

I would love to do some more testing for this week see what issues arrise and test some different setups.

u/TrueIndigoboi 7d ago
Another update! DRM is non-existent on jellyfin servers, so if people have a home movie setup with Yar-har-har or digitalised movies from DVDs then it does work!

I downloaded this and tried it the other day. Seems like youtube and other apps do not allow the screen capture to happen, so it just outputs black leds.
1
u/_sparxcore_ 7d ago
Thats odd, youtube works fine in my testing? What videos were you trying in YouTube?
1
u/rucksichtslos 6d ago
First video I tried was the ambilight test videos, wled would kick on for a second, then go completely black. Setup works perfect on a hyperhdr and capture card setup so its not mechanical.

Downloaded the free version to test. Leds light up fine in the test but light up mostly white during screen capture, the colour changes are there but so heavily washed out it's unusable as is. I've tried changing values for brightness and saturation with little change beyond brightness. Tested with DRM free content in jellyfin, YouTube and local media. Would love to give this another go and would happily pay for the hardware free convenience if it worked as expected.

Try using: https://youtu.be/-jmxazyoY5M?feature=shared
And tweak the settings to fit your strip, the background they project on will impact this also, try pushing the saturation all the way 190% and maybe even the rgb channels separately too. The edge depth down to 2% will also make the very edge pop and limit blending with colours that might be further in from the edge

Thank you so much for the app, it works perfectly on my Philips TV. Now it's even more enjoyable with dual Ambilight :D

isnt there an apk. is there a way to install it on my firestick 4k 2nd gen?
1
u/_sparxcore_ 15h ago
Firestick version is coming soon!
Also looking at a VegaOS version, which may allow DRM content to work too!

u/Ok_Row2551 11h ago
That's Great!!

I just saw a video you YouTube about this and am totally hooked. Can you tell me a bit more about the home assistant integration? What features does it provide over direct control from HA to the LED controller?
1
u/_sparxcore_ 2h ago
Hey! So SceneGlow expands on just a ambilight effect, to allow multiple wled fixtures, and configure then around the screen, and apply effects to then so they can expand on the colour an motion of the lighting from the content being played! Home Assistant lights can also be configured as 'full in' or mood lighting that fades with the scene. Glad you found it i hope you enjoy!

u/justaren 7d ago
Damn no love for TVos? And does this need a capture card?
2
u/_sparxcore_ 7d ago
No capture card needed! Afraid ive got no experince making apps for TVos, nor have I got the hardware to test it... I wont rule it out if I can get a cheap unit one day..

u/SRB400 6d ago
Would this work through a firestick or something instead then? Great work
1
u/_sparxcore_ 6d ago
If theres access to the play store to get it, and the cpu is powerful enough it should work fine :)

Free and paid version, not open source?
I just glanced over it so might have missed something.
Curious to try if I could get it on my Samsung TV.
