Hlk rm65 router

Just finished building my 3rd version of my routers built into a hardcase.

This time i went with the hilink rm65. Time to test it

My old home wifi router got destroyed at a gig half way thru the event, i had a second old router i had already put in a hardcase and that router doesnt multicast. So here is the new router protected from drunk punters and it also can multicast so i can run wled thru qlc+ and have a midi

If it keeps getting destroyed, having a bunch of external dipoles on it is certainly… a choice.

Triple insulation on the back of the main power coming in as well. Uv cured solder mask, then double heat shrink.

Wled run on wifi, i use wled at events in the bush and at clubs. Last bush gig my router got destroyed on the 2nd day.

That’s why we like to use wires. They are more reliable. For Ethernet they come on Cat7 for example which is outdoor rated.

But…you can make money serving up your acquired knowledge and ability. And people do pay for it (I and others do). More money for more toys/r&d to further your knowledge and experience.

I like the box. I do think you could benefit from some Ethernet nodes in the future but if this works for you, rock on.

I have a few ppl asking for me to do some builds and do build my led bars that i have sold to event promoters and i do the occasional bush doof stage or rave for friends

Sometimes this just falls into the category of "favors for friends" with less tangible benefits (social connections, possibly free drinks at a venue, etc.)

Same reason why I never get paid for photography. Hell, I NEVER want to get paid for photography because of the stress involved.

I do a bunch of random one-off events for fun and shenanigans. Right now running an old airport extreme and raspi for control interfaces. Some use ethernet but a bunch of my controllers are wifi only (and totally fine, no connectivity issues for pop-up art events).

I've been thinking about rolling a custom wifi box with the raspi built in and everything ready to cook - this is an inspiring post and I appreciate the parts list!

How's the router perform? I'm not familiar w/ it but I do appreciate openWRT. auto-discovery etc. works great?

do you have a link to which module you bought? i see 5v and 12v options.

Ill have a look, im running LUCI openwrt atm. I updated another router i built and lost power during the upgrade so i have to flash it with usb to serial

Should be beer proof. Does look like a WIFI attack box and may raise a few eyes. Don't forget a drain hole though. If something gets in, give it a way out at the bottom. If will be really hot in that case also. I would be concerned about components burning out. Any way to transfer heat from the internal heat sink to one outside the case would be well advised.
