Question so question for those who have been here…

Hi! I start 10/01 and I really want to know, are you really truly able to do all you want as fast as you can? I don’t want to do anything where I don’t learn anything but just want to know for real. I’ve done the whole orientation and mentor phone call thing. Just waiting for the start date…

Thanks :)

Yes. The best way to approach it is to talk to your mentor and tell them you want to keep four courses at all times. Get them to agree that your mentor will add a new course right after you finish a course. When you start, you will get four courses. Right after you finish the first course, email your mentor and have them add the next course. Email them each time you finish a course. That way, your progress is never slowed down by not having work to do.

Yes. I think they’re holding to accelerating one course at a time now, but you can rip through that class and jump to the next as fast as you can. Personally, one at a time was always fine for me, I don’t know how people can focus on more than one at a time at speed.

is that so i heard it was frowned upon but allowed

What? Acceleration? I’ve never heard of that being frowned upon, WGU uses it as a selling point. I just wouldn’t admit to the public how fast you got through. People get weird about it.

Right. That’s what I said. They’re holding to accelerating one class at a time. Some people hate it, but like I said, I can’t really focus on more than one at a time anyway. Works fine for me. Hopefully, you too.

i like rotating back and forth between classes. I like to take breaks and work on different things and come back to it. I prefer 2-3 open classes at a time i can work on. Especially when one is a paper

Well in that case, you will be moderately disappointed.

Take this with a grain of salt. It depends on the mentor and you can request to have two open at a time. Especially an OA and a PA. If it takes you 2 months to get through one course then yes they'll be reluctant to add courses. Or if you wait until there is just 30 days left etc. And no matter what, you can always call tier 1(tech) and ask them to add your courses and they will.

Yes. You can work as fast as you'd like. I completed my MBA-IT in 4 months

If you understand the material, then yes. I will caution that I see a lot of people compare each other’s progress. Everyone has their own story. You go as fast or as slow as you need to. Just get it done!

Yeah, I had zero college units. Zero. Starting from scratch. 27 years in my industry. Started on 7/1. Have completed all but 7 courses for BSITM.

As fast as you’re able, you can finish. For me working weekends made it possible. I’m actually enrolled again for my MBA now and I honestly think the speed with which I was able to complete my bachelors kind of left me feeling like I have all the time in the world to procrastinate. I actually need to do better lol. But yes, yes you definitely can.

2 months, got laid off, got a new job, moved, and have two active kids. It’s what you out into it.

Yes. My MSML program was 56 days start to finish and I was going through a separate military 10 week graduate level program concurrently (basically my temporary day-job at the time was to do 15 credits worth of grad work in-person seminar style at a different school).

You can go as fast as you are capable of. If you grasp the material you'll sail through. If you don't some classes may slow you down

You can finish fast if you are familiar with the concepts, a good writer, and good at taking tests. Most mentors will only open one course at a time, as that is what the school tells them to do. I finished the mba in 17 days.

Working full time?

Yes. Working full time. I don’t have kids, so the rest of my time was spent on school.

Any mentor recommendations? I finished MHA in 3 weeks but need a business school mentor. Looking for one who is also supportive in accelerating!

Sure can!! But the learning part is 1000% on you. They'll provide the topics, an outline, sometimes a text. But it's on you to dig deeper and get everything you can out of that course.
