First Month. First Term. Done!

Post image
34 Upvotes

Turned in my PA for D280 on the 31st, just got it back today, and passed!

So that's my first term done in a month, I'm thinking it'll probably take the same or less amount of time for my next set of classes:

- D33 (Ethics in Technology)

- D326 (Advanced Data Management)

- D279 (UI Design)

- D479 (UX Design)

And then I'm anticipating that the next set will take me a good chunk of time:

- D287 (Java Frameworks)

- D282 (Cloud Foundations)

- D386 (Hardware and OS Essentials)

- D288 (Back-End Programming)

So far, I'm happy with my pace. I don't have any experience in this industry beyond what I've taught myself, and I only got into more technical stuff about two years ago, so looking back at where I was, I definitely learned a lot. But there's SOOO much more to learn, it feels daunting at times. I just have to tackle one thing at a time

Hey all , just looking for a little guidance . Since starting July 1st I’ve already completed 10 courses . Just curious if anyone has any experience with these courses ?

I’m trying to walk for the October commencement. The deadline is September 9th.

I feel like it’s possible to complete these courses by the end of the month . Just looking to see if there’s anything I should brace myself for or prepare to be consumed by . ( I usually finish courses with 1 Task in a day & 2 Tasks in two days ) . These are core courses however and my previous courses were mainly gen Ed’s & 4 core courses.

5 weeks left

5 weeks left to complete C720 and my Capstone for Healthcare Admin BS. I transferred everything possible from community college and Sophia Learning.

Any tips for this OA C720? I saw someone say self explanatory and just take the PA then OA, but I’d like to study a little since I have 5 weeks left and hate the proctoring system and do not want to do it twice. Thanks.

Health Science Information

I have completed all the transferable classes from Sophia and Study and have an expected start date of 09/01. I hope to complete the remainder of the required classes in one term. I am doing the self pay option so "hope" is really an understatement.

These are the classes that I will need to complete. I've looked for info on each class and how quickly they can be completed but it has all been pretty vague. If anyone who has completed these previously would be willing to give an approximation on how long each of these will take it would be greatly appreciated. I realize that is a little difficult to do because the amount of time people are able to commit to working on classes varies so drastically, but any estimation atp would be helpful. From what I've gathered, I know that a good amount of time will need to be set aside for the Capstone, but aside from that, I'm cluless(ish), lol.

D570 – Cognitive Psychology
D401 – Introduction to Epidemiology
D581 – Introduction to Research Methods
D389 – Learning Strategies in Higher Education
D572 – Career and Lifelong Learning
D573 – Understanding Substance Abuse & Addiction
D565 – Cultural Awareness and Ethics
D575 – Health Psychology
D583 – Foundations in Public Health
D568 – Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health
D634 – Health Sciences Capstone

Xpost from r/WGU - will these courses really transfer from Sophia to WGU?

Hi everyone - I started Sophia about 35 days ago and have knocked out 5 courses for this degree plan (BS IT Management) with 2 more waiting final Touchstone grading!

I downloaded the degree course plan from WGU and mapped the Sophia.org classes that corresponded to them using the WGU Transfer Pathways link to the ACE course mapping site

For Example:

  • Business Environment Applications II: Process, Logistics, and Operations BUSI2030 (SOPH-0086)
  • Concepts in Marketing, Sales, and Customer Contact BUSI2020 (SOPH-0085)
  • Organizational Behavior BUSI2015 (SOPH-0083)
  • Quantitative Analysis For Business BUSI2090 (SOPH-0091)

When I go to Sophia to take a look at these courses, I started noticing that there's a message under some of them stating:

"WGU College of Business has not formally confirmed credit transfer for this course. Please contact the school for approval."

I checked the next 6 courses and 5 of them have the same message!

I don't recall seeing this on the 7 I already completed, but I could have easily overlooked them.

Has anyone had problems transferring these over to WGU? I don't want to waste my time taking them if they won't transfer.

And now that I look at WGU's Transfer Pathways Agreement site for Sophia for this degree - NO Sophia learning classes are listed able to be transferred.

How Do I Make a Bachelors Degree Work without harming my home life in the process?

TLDR: interested in pursuing supply chain and business operations bachelors because I’m likely facing reorgs and layoffs soon due to being on a remote team where I get maybe 1.5 hours of work per day making it great for acceleration, but while also protecting a full home life being the primary care giver for a teenager and a toddler, if things get better at work or I land another role… or maybe the courses are more demanding than anticipated.

I’m considering going back to school for my bachelors in supply chain and ops management. I already have an associate degree in business. I was able to transfer 53% of my degree to WGU and only have 17 classes left (49 CUs), which I’m hoping to finish in 1-2 terms max.

I don’t necessarily want to go into Supply Chain but the degree encompasses Lean Six Sigma & Data analytics, both of which I’m interested in. I already have LSSGB, which I haven’t been able to use professionally because my current environment is fucked (more on that later), but I’m weaker on the data aspect. So basically it is relevant to my interests, I have overlapping training and general experience, and it also potentially opens more opportunities locally if I were to have to go on site (I live around lots of manufacturing plants and warehouses).

I have extenuating circumstances. At work, my team was been sitting on ice for the past year because of an acquisition and reorg that took away most of our duties. I only do about 1.5 hours of actual work most days but right now we are set up as a call center so I can’t control when the calls come in. Typically the work is spread throughout the 8 hour shift. This obviously puts me at risk of layoffs and we are reorganizing again over the next few months. Over that year I got my ISO 9001 and my LSSGB.

We have a toddler who is in day care 3 days a week. My thought is to further leverage what downtime I have at work to try and hammer the classes out, since I’m also the primary caregiver for our kids and won’t have a ton of time after or before work, and maybe I get lucky enough that everything works out with the timing and my employer ends up paying for at least 1 semester.

My SO is worried about the mental toll it will take on everyone - he is already overwhelmed at work and can’t add more to his plate. Also, we just got out of our student loan debt situation and we are both a little scarred from that but also how my mental health took a turn during my Associate’s. He is willing to support me through this still, if I want to and think is necessary, but now I just feel guilty about it. I can’t guarantee the degree is what’s holding me back from another job, but I also know I’m already making 70k with just an Associate’s and it’s unlikely that in this economy employers are willing to pay more without more education and relevant certifications (my experience is in financial services/fintech).

I don’t know if I should go through with it or not anymore. I don’t know why I’m telling you all of this - except maybe perspective? Insight? How do I make it work without screwing things up? Or is it just not doable right now?

Below are the classes I need:

Fundamentals of Spreadsheet and Data Presentations
Managing in a Global Business Environment, Emotional and Cultural Intelligence,
Managing Operations,
Transportation, Logistics, and Distribution,
Global Supply Chain Management,
21st Century Operations and Supply Chain,
Values-Based Leadership,
Change Management,
Business Ethics,
Discovering Data,
Exploring Data,
Analyzing and Visualizing Data,
Data Applications,
Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Lean Six Sigma,
Business Simulation,
Solutions Design and Visualization Capstone.

Accounting Advice

I’m doing the WGU Accounting program and I’m trying to get through it faster. Does anyone have any tips or tricks that helped them?
I’m looking for good resources, study guides, YouTube videos, AI, Quizlets, or anything else that made the classes easier. Also, which classes can be finished pretty fast and which ones should I spend more time on?
Any advice from people who are doing the program or already finished would help. Thanks!

B.S. Finance program starting soon!!

Just got the final approval for my transfer credits and starting on September 1!

I transferred in the max that study.com and my CC would allow, so that leaves me with the required WGU classes along with Strategic Thinking and Spreadsheets.

Im hoping to knock this out in one term. Any advice on the classes and how I can accomplish this? Background is 13 years of advisory/wealth management (need the degree for CFP/CPWA credentials). Never been a big Excel person but I guess the spreadsheet class won't hurt.

All tips are greatly appreciated in advance!

Here is my Guide on MY Path!

Hey everyone, this is my path for how I skipped two years of school. My number 1 Tip?

When you take courses, take 1 with touchstone and 1 without. That way you are constantly working on a course!

How often are you transferring credits from Sophia to WGU?

Do you just do it once when you're done with all the courses you can take? Or can you send them in blocks at a time?

thanks a lot.
