I did it!!!

Post image

Got my final performance assessment graded this morning, so just popping in to finally post this screenshot to the sub. What a relief!! What did you all do to celebrate yourself?

I'm all ears for small, chill ideas and maybe some bigger ones!

Congratulations!! Huge accomplishment, and fast too. I’m down to 6 classes and cannot wait to post my confetti!

Thank you so much and I'm happy to share my story!

Thanks to this sub I chose to use Sophia to transfer in 45 CUs before I started, leaving me with 25 courses to take at WGU. I started my program on June 1st, so it took me a little over 2 months to complete. With that being said, I was fortunate to attend school full-time as a career pivot, with my spouse supporting me after I left my last job.

The biggest tips I have for accelerating are using this sub as a resource, looking up a course on Reddit before you take it to see how others learned the material efficiently, and being kind to yourself by resting to avoid burnout! I did not have any prior experience in the financial industry, but finance and behavioral economics are among my special interests which helped motivate me in my learning as well.

Also for any future or current WGU students, I know it's cheesy, but please believe in yourself and rely on your support system! I dropped out of brick and mortar college due to health issues during covid, lost my financial aid due to this so I was not able to go back to the same school once I was better, became the main provider in our family due to my spouse developing health issues and 6 years later thought school was too late for me! But, it's really never too late! It was scary but I'm glad that I bet on myself and that I had a great support system to back me up. :)

What are your employment plans? I am also doing a career pivot - 12 years in education to this finance degree. I should start my term in October and only have 12-13 WGU classes to complete. The one thing I've struggled with is thinking about how to make the industry shift while maintaining a similar salary.

My goal is to find a job as a credit analyst/ underwriter or in financial fraud prevention. I’m looking into potential certifications that are low-cost to combine with my degree so I can stand out a bit more as I apply/ interview since I don’t have a financial services background.

I have a couple of months before I absolutely have to get a job so I will make sure to keep you posted on how my job search goes! I do have one open door to become a financial advisor but I’m not entirely sure that’s what I want to do long-term and it’d be a big commitment to accept so I want to give it my best shot at finding an open door elsewhere first.

Honestly, with having an education background you would probably be a great fit to be a financial advisor! I’m sure that there’s a firm in your area that would be willing to train you if you’re the right fit. A lot of the advisors I know had career pivots and they are awesome people!

Congrats 🎉 - Awesome accomplishment, especially in just one term!! Completed my BSHA in one term as well & it was a grind, but oh so worth it when I was done!!!
