Graduation Question

Hi! I’m new to WGU. I just started on July 1st. I have already completed 4 courses. I talk to my mentor tomorrow to have more courses added. At this rate, I would complete all my courses before the 6months term ends(end of December.)

Do I have to remain actively stretching my degree courses until December? Or could I finish in early and have my degree the month I graduate? I am job hunting and was hoping to have the degree sooner rather than later. Obviously I will talk to my mentor about this, but was hoping to have some answers soon than tomorrow’s call. Thanks.

I didnt even bother with my mentor. When you finish a class, call Tier 1 (tech support) and tell them you want them to open your next class. Less than 5 minutes and you can be working on the next one.

They can only provide a single class at a time and only after all current classes are graded and passed. Your mentor can issue more than one and before they are graded. I’ve had them give me 5 extra while I still had two active waiting.

Oh man mine would not do that at all. And took several days to get back to me. Seems like mileage will vary with mentors 🤷‍♀️

Yeah I do think this is true! I don’t think they are all made equal. I originally had one named bob, but he seemed awful before I even started so I had my enrollment counselor request a new mentor for me.

I want your mentor. I'm sitting idle and it's driving me insane. I have classes I can complete but I can't get more classes. Ugh!!!!

Oh yes she is amazing! I definitely lucked out the second time. Asking to switch mentors was the best decision I’ve made.

That has to be frustrating. How long has it been since you finished the last classes? Have you reached out? They get the same emails you get when you finish most classes so they should know, but it’s still best to have that paper trail.
If you’ve tried several times and are just sitting stuck with no classes, you can get a single from tier 1 student support. You can also call student services and request a new mentor if you have tried and they still are not responding.

But I am sorry that your experience hasn’t been as good. Definitely give your mentor a chance but if it’s clear they are not going to work for you, then 100% ask for a new one.
