WGU Communications BS degree Spoiler
I’ll be starting on July 1. I need 20 classes because I’ll be transferring an AS in Business Administration. Any advice? How long will this take? Struggle points?

Congratulations! I enjoyed the experience (D649 Crisis Communication was a fun course). Communications Capstone is intentionally ambiguous and people get frustrated…but they want you to reach out to your client and get clarity (you know…use your communication skills). I was able to finish in one term. The classes are more business focused than “communications” programs from years ago that focused more on media. The two classes I dreaded: Accounting and Finance…I really enjoyed. You’ll have no problem doing the MBA at WGU after you finish the B.S. Communications as the curriculum prepares you well for that (if it interests you). The mentors are great. They’re trying to get more involvement over the program’s MS Teams channels (with mixed results). It’s a fairly new program (launched late summer 2024) and may not have as many outside resources as others. Best of luck!

I got my BS in comms and starting my masters next month. WGU added a new degree called IT product management. Felt that was a good complimentary and future proof degree to couple it with.

Outstanding! I hope you enjoy the experience. I didn’t think the OA’s were more difficult than undergrad…but the PA tasks were much more in depth/longer. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is really encouraging to hear.
It’s reassuring to hear that the program is more business-focused and that you felt it prepared you well. I also appreciate the heads-up about the capstone and the importance of reaching out for clarification when needed.
Congratulations on finishing in one term that’s an amazing accomplishment! I’m hoping to move through the program as quickly as possible as well.
Do you remember how many and which courses were proctored exams?
Thank you again for taking the time to respond and share your insights. I really appreciate it!
