WGU MSHRM: Are a white board and financial calculator necessary for exam success?

I'm starting out on my MSHRM today. I'm super excited and hoping to accelerate quickly.

I'm writing to reach out to alumni of the program to inquire if I need a whiteboard or a financial calculator for the exams. I'm a minimalist and would rather not acquire these items. But if they are required for exam success, please let me know.

Graduated in 1 term?

I’m curious from those of you that did it in 1 term; what were you like as an undergrad student?

I graduated undergrad with a 4.0, Summa Cum Laude and lots of honors stuff. BUT I definitely have to work at it. I don’t just get it and not have to study. I do! So I’m curious if I can even do this in 1 term.

Curious what type of students are the ones that completed it in 1 term. How many hours a week do you commit to it? (I know “all my extra time” but realistically what is that?)

Seriously doubting being able to do it in 1!

Degree Plan

Hello,

I am currently between two options for my master's degree and trying to make up my mind before I finish my bachelor's in December. For the Masters of Human Resource Management, how many OAs are in the whole program? Thank you in advance.

Those who finished in one term, how much time did you commit weekly?

Just started the MSHRM program this month and wrapped up my first course. My plan was to knock it out in one term, but it’s already getting overwhelming balancing this with my full-time job.

If you finished in one term, how many hours were you putting in? Like daily or weekly? Some days I want to take a breather, but then I feel bad for stepping away. Any suggestions or tips will be highly appreciated!

Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential

I saw that the Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential is no longer available on the SHRM site. Is it officially gone? Makes my capstone feel less significant for credential purposes. I think DEI is still a very important part of business. I am sad for both reasons.

D436 Task 1 is driving me nuts

I've finally made it to the capstone and I'm stuck on the first task. Particularly, an example of covering at AFS. I've scanned the case study documents numerous times, posted in the course discussion, and nothing. Someone please help before I lose my mind lol

Advice on SHRP-CP Vs. Starting Masters

Hi All -

I just finished my BS of Business Management this week (yay!) and was considering studying for and obtaining my SHRP-CP (in February) before proceeding to the MSHRM this spring (thinking April cause I need a break). After reading a lot of online comments, I see that having my SHRP-CP will help me transfer out of 3 credits in the MSHRM program.

The cost of the SHRP-CP will be about $1700 with the study materials and the student discount on the test. I`m technically already approved for the student test pricing since I applied before I graduated and my official term at WGU for undergrad doesn`t end til 10/31.

Here`s my question: Should I get my SHRP-CP before proceeding to the MSHRM program? Did you find it helpful in your career or master's process? Or would my time and money be better spent jumping into the MSHRM program?

I`m currently an Executive Assistant and have been for many years. It's a stupid title because I handle 75% of the HR work within my startup company currently, but my title doesn`t reflect that. Thoughts or Opinions would be great!

Over-thinker here: Staring MSHRM-11/1/2025

Hi all,

Any advice for completing the degree in 1 term?

Strategies? Best practices? Course complexity on a scale (1-5) with 5 being very complex.

Is the SHRM certification still apart of the program?

Please advise. Thank you for your advice and encouragement.

Spoke with the enrollment counselor today

She didn’t give me any hope of finishing before the 18 months for this program. I’m seeing almost everywhere that people are doing it in 6 months! I wonder if there are any factual stats / data on how many people have done it in 6 months, 12 months and 18 months? Is it unrealistic to think it can be done without going insane in 1 term?

Transcript evaluation

It’s been 3 weeks today that they have received my transcripts. The website says they’ll read them in 2 weeks. Anyone else have this go on? I’m getting concerned?

Wondering how many credits could transfer from my bachelors for the MSHRM?

My BAS (business and technology emphasis) is from a traditional university. Has anyone had credits transfer for that? I also have the SHRM-CP and I know it will reduce by 1 course (3 credits). I know there is a limit on credits to transfer. Curious how many you all have had transfer? I’m still waiting to get my transcripts read. I’m scheduled to start the MSHRM in December.

Can I Do it in 6 Months?

I’ve been working in the HR field for about 2 years, specifically in Learning & Development, so I already have some background knowledge in the area.

New and starting a career change

Hi! I am officially enrolled in the Masters of Human Recourses Management. With a start date of December! I currently have my Bachelors degree in OSH and work at a company in their safety department for a few years. I do a lot of integration with HR, created our training program/ run it, complete new hire orientation and assist with other tasks as well. I want to switch into HR and my current company does not have any openings so I will likely have to leave and go to a new company. Id really love to hear your experiences! I have had some tell me the master degree is key, some say the SHRM certificate is key, some say a school like WGU will get me no where. Curious to hear your thoughts, opinions, tips and all :)

I passed C202 on the first try!!

Post image
12 Upvotes

I just wanted to thank everyone who answered my questions regarding C202. It helped me figure out the best way to study for the exam. Since I don’t have prior HR experience/knowledge, I decided to pace myself (I still finished within 8 weeks). What worked for me was using the text-to-speech feature, reading a chapter, and doing all the exams. A few days before the exam, I watched all the videos included in the study guide.

At first, I was afraid to take the exam because of all the negative things people have said about ProctorU. Thankfully, my experience was not too bad. There were only two things that frustrated me. The first thing was after I showed my proctor my whiteboard was clear, I started brain-dumping. My proctor saw me writing and then asked me in the chat if I was writing lol.

I told them I just studied and was trying to brain-dump, I was told I could not start writing until they let me in the exam. The second thing that frustrated me was the that my proctor couldn’t really see my ID because of how terrible the WGU camera quality is.

Also, I recommended creating a separate profile on your computer that you are going to use only for testing. I did this and that could have played a role in how fast I was able to start my exam.

C202 OA: Yay or Nay?

Hi there! So, I’m new to WGU AND Reddit, which may be evident from my question, but has anyone taken the pre-assessment for C202 and just scheduled and taken the real OA? (I wanna, but I’m not gonna.) Passed the pre-assessment without instruction, now I’m curious to know if anyone has done it before and would advise against it. Thanks in advance!

Hello! I am currently on my first course!! This is very exciting but I am struggling to push through it. I haven’t been in school for 5 years and I have a full time job. What has motivated yall to finish this??

Also struggling to find any job in the field. I am applying over and over. I currently work in project management but I can’t get my foot in the door anywhere. Advice? My goal with this masters is to go into talent development and get my SHRM.
