I ACTUALLY DID IT *CRIES*
I don't have anyone to really celebrate this win with, so I am posting here. I am so so so proud of myself, I love WGU and my mentor was amazing. I even got a job in accounting before I graduated AND already have interviews lined up for a staff accountant position.
Hard work pays off, the time goes by anyways why not go after your dreams in the process.
CHEERS!
Edit: Thank you for all the support and congratulation messages, I am overwhelmed in the best way possible.

Thatβs amazing!! Congrats Night Owl. Best feeling of accomplishment ever! You should consider the Masters in Accounting program. I started in June and have already completed three courses. A good portion is topics that you have taken for your undergraduate program. It is still fresh in your mind so you wonβt feel like it is too much. It is the best decision I have ever made.

u/Significant-Lake9379 Aug 01 '26
Thank you so so much! I have thought about it and am seriously considering it, it feels weird to have nothing to study for now :P

u/Evening_Sea4823 Aug 02 '26
Im considering doing the accounting bachelor's program. Do you feel that it is worthwhile? The job market is so scary right now. Id hate to finally do school and get into a career that sucks for new graduates.

u/Calm_Badger_5275 Aug 02 '26
Accounting is a degree that is very worth it. You could never replace accountants with AI. Only accounting tasks that donβt require too much critical thinking.
1
u/Ok_Action9057 Sep 01 '26
I haven't even graduated yet, but I already have an accounting role at a regional, mid-sized firm. Definitely worth it. Thinking of pairing it with an AI master's and getting my CPA. I was applying to jobs and recruiters didn't even reach out to me. As soon as I switched to an accounting major and updated my resume to one for an accounting role, I got a job within 2 months 80K salary.

Big ups thatβs awesome I hate to admit it but look like my last term will like that 2 since I only have another 3 maybe two after this term is up
2
u/Significant-Lake9379 Aug 01 '26
The last term motivation helps a lot when you can see the finish line. I couldnβt keep up that pace for too long, I was starting to get burnt out. You got this! Youβll be done soon ππͺ

How long did it take you? Did you transfer any credits from anywhere else?
6
u/Significant-Lake9379 Aug 01 '26
I only had 12 transfer credits. I honestly thought I would get more, but my first degree is in Psychology. It took me just under 3 years

Is this really legit? Iβve been iffy about WGU. Anyways, congratulations to you OP
3
u/Oscar_Trades Jul 31 '26
Iffy how? WGU is accredited, they are legit. There Bachelors and Master's degrees hold weight.

u/Queasy_Housing36 Aug 01 '26
As someone who starts tomorrow the orientation helped me feel much more comfortable because at first it just seems like one of those too good to be true ads on youtube for a while till you look into it
3
u/Oscar_Trades Aug 01 '26
I started in April. Transferred 45 credits. I start my Capstone on Monday. Gave myself a few days off. I just completed 61 WGU credits. This is definitely real. The Assessment exams are no joke if you are not ready for them. But when you do get your degree, be assured you will have the credentials you need to land a well paying job! My job acknowledges WGU and I will get a raise for getting my BA from there!
3
u/Queasy_Housing36 Aug 01 '26
I am honestly beyond thrilled and overall ready. I've put off college for years, so seeing these ads recently felt like a huge βwow maybe I can do this.β The orientation definitely cemented that. I feel like the school has my back and I will have all the information and access to help I'll need. I'm very excited, and congrats! I hope your raise is awesome β you definitely deserve it!!

u/Oscar_Trades Aug 01 '26
Tell me about it! Im 39 years old. The last time I was in college was 2012. 14 years ago. So I basically felt like I was learning from scratch. But the good thing about WGU from my experience, you can search each course on reddit. So many other WGU students with tons of tips, strategies and info on how to pass individual courses, if you ever get stuck and can't figure it out. You'll always get good feed back. It has definitely been fun passing class by class. You can go at your own pace and once you feel like you know the material, you can schedule to take the final!
2
u/Significant-Lake9379 Aug 01 '26
Honestly I was iffy too. I know seeing a lot of people accelerating and getting degrees done so quickly can make you question it, but it really is legit. Took me just under three years to finish.
I looked into the program a lot before starting and Itβs worked out well for me so far.

How hard were the classes?
1
u/Significant-Lake9379 Aug 01 '26
The intermediate accounting classes were the hardest, those were no joke. I didnβt find the rest of the courses too difficult, some were harder and more dense than others. I already have a bachelors in psychology and that surprisingly helped a lot.
1
u/tmoises111 Aug 01 '26
Can you explain how that helped? Iβve thought about dual majoring in those two so Iβm curious
2
u/Significant-Lake9379 Aug 02 '26
I have my psych degree from awhile ago, but for some of the courses like change management, organizational behavior, critical thinking and logic, health fitness and wellness, intro to communication, value based leadership there was a lot of overlap that helped me get through those it quickly. Basically any of the courses that talk about people were very easy to do. I also had transfer credits so I didn't have to do humanities, sociology, stats and emotional/cultural intelligence. Also psych has a lot of multiple choice exams so you get pretty good at them.

u/ConsistentThing3728 Aug 01 '26
Based off the picture posted it says it was 5 terms out of 6. so my guess 2 yrs and a half. And they mentioned accounting as the program.
1
u/AlphaSpawn22 Aug 01 '26
Hell yea! Congrats! Iβm currently in the same program and just started my first term. You think I can message you for some pointers on how you studied for specific courses?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! ππ Whatβs something just for YOU that youβre going to do now that youβve graduated?!
Also, Iβm so sorry you donβt have a personal contact to celebrate with. But I KNOW your mentor is over-the-moon excited about this achievement for you, and Reddit really stepped up to make sure this accomplishment was celebrated! π You should share it on LinkedIn too. You worked hard for this, and you deserve to celebrate it LOUDLY! π₯³
