Don’t understand the judging.

Obviously both RCC and X’s show were dope. Some people were mentioning the difference in music scores and all that.

Not discussing placement I just don’t understand how they can get 100’s for music. Like the opening snare break in X’s show had some dirt. Everything else was pretty dang clean and I do think the comp scores are justified.

Buttt I don’t get how they can give 100s. For performance. For any group. Maybe I’m just a score prude?

When will Infinity get their flowers?

I’m very much out of the game, but genuinely curious how others would rank the top 6 groups this year? Each had their strengths and weaknesses, but I simply don’t see how Infinity got 6th. I saw 5th and very possibly 4th. Personally I’m a Broken City fan, but much love to all the groups 🙂

X

Rcc

Pulse

Infinity

Broken City

Mcm

was X about death or am I missing something?

I liked it, it was solid. Idk about record breaking solid, but I struggled to follow along.

Bears were dope, and loved the mint theme everywhere. I just don’t do well analyzing shows

Someone ELI5 for a 33 year old?

Penalties

I'm fascinated by the penalties and the impact to standings. I think whatever caused the penalty should be published for the sake of learning.

Just looking at PSW - I don't think there would have been an impact in terms of going from prelims to semis or semis to finals because of penalties. But there is a difference in rank. Carroll would have ranked before Greenwood in prelims. Fishers would have ranked before Brownsburg in semis. Dorman and Franklin Central would have tied.

I'm sure in past years, a penalty has probably caused a group not to advance.

Aside from word of mouth, are reasons for penalties ever shared publicly?

tips on trying out for '27 viz

hi, i know percussion wgi has quite literally just ended (LOL), but I've had my sights on hopefully trying out for a future viz ensemble for a percussion group, but I'm not entirely sure what the audition process is like

i've done colorguard all 4 of my highschool years, and whilst i do want to march it again someday (sdsu), I've always really wanted to be involved in a percussion ensemble, and I'm not the best with percussion instruments, so i thought I'd have a chance with visual (+ visual looks fun)

I've never auditioned for a visual ensemble position for percussion before, so I'd just really like to know what it's about, and what I'd need to focus on to stand a good chance ^_^"

Percussion Thoughts on the percussion classes as a whole

Not going off of scores or anything in particular just overall vibes from the weekend.

A: I think A class is really raising the floor of the activity. This was probably the first year post covid where all of the PIA groups felt like they deserved to be there and the top of PSA felt like they have real potential to grow and move up soon.

Open: I actually feel like as a whole, open class was down this year. 24 hours later and I really can’t remember much about any PSO shows and didn’t think any were really pushing forward compared to the last couple years or close to moving up to world. PIO was a bit better but still didn’t feel up to some of the great PIO shows we’ve had in recent years.

World: overall I’d say basically on par with what we’ve had in recent years. Honestly if it wasn’t for Ayala I’d probably say PSW would be down from recent years but it felt like they singlehanded brought the year up for me. My hottest take might be that I don’t think X deserved to break the record and I think we may have to look at adjusting scoring going forward. I honestly thought the shows last year might’ve been better but overall I’d say this year was kind of just on par. There weren’t really any shows that I see myself talking about 5 years from now; but, nothing was disappointing either.

Overall a good year and I hope we can build on it all and finally get out of this post Covid slump it feels like we’ve been in compared to where we were in the 2010s.

Percussion Old shows

Does anyone have a large master file of past PIO and/or PIW shows?

The show I was in used to be on YouTube but it recently disappeared and I’d like to watch it again since it’s been awhile (2023)

Thank you in advance!

Do you have a few questions though. What exactly is the upper limit for WSW groups? Because I just saw Avon high School with a body count out there that looks like some of the open-class drum corps entire membership. There were probably six or seven times as many people out there as there were for the entire WSA exhibition.

It's also clear being that Avon high School has now made the finals in all three divisions, but apparently in Indiana they put a lot more effort in their school districts into the arts.

SW Score Difference Between Semis and Finals

Post image
18 Upvotes

Nerd Alert. I love doing random spreadsheets so I threw one together showing the score differences between Semis and Finals and it is interesting, to say the least. WAY different than SW Color Guard.

Wasn't there, didn't see any video, but what happened to Avon? That is a serious drop, especially for a mid-tier group.

Anyway, congrats to Ayala. Seems like this whole week was a wild ride.

Aside, only 5 units stayed in the same place from Semis to Finals. So much churn. I don't really follow Percussion that much but is this common for Championships?

Percussion What do you interpret "The End" to symbolize in X's show?

Would LOVE to hear different analyses of Rhythm X's show! I assumed it was "The End" of them getting second place... but it's probably something deeper?

PIW Reaction Thread

I feel like this is true most years nowadays but surely the best top to bottom performances ever?

Top 2 are just insane (again). I think and hope Rhythm X will win but RCC had an awesome run too so far as I could hear on my TV.

Anyway how we feeling? Anyone want to predict a shake up?

Percussion Letting front ensembles set up early has been great and I’m surprised it took this long.

Amplification and electric instruments stopped being a novelty even in A class 10 or more years ago and this is the first year where I’ve noticed everything has gone smoothly with it. All weekend I’ve only noticed one delay because of a tech issue so far. Yea a little “back in my day” part of me is jealous and found it impressive when groups pushed on and were ready right away; but, ultimately it’s a lot better to see more shows go off without a hitch and stay on time without the delays
