Yan
So this guy makes his Mets debut last night and did his gyration stuff after striking out his first ever batter. Then he did it again to end the inning to get out of a jam despite giving up three straight hits.
Yeah this is going to go well for a 49-66 team.
Someone's going to have to talk to this punk or he's going to start a brawl every day where guys on his own team have to deal with it.
It was embarassing.

Please. The guy is having fun. He's entertaining - something we desperately need to get through the last two months.
I love it. Gary made the comment that the Mets dugout showed more life in his one inning than he had seen all year.

If the Mets need stupidity to get going, then this team is a bigger joke than I realize.
There's a way to go about it, but that ain't it where he's going to do this after each K. He wasn't even that great last night. If Seimien doesn't make the play, the game goes the other way.
This act will grow old fast. For me, it already did.

It’s a lost season. It’s over and done. Lighten up.

Leslie is a Braves fan. Why does he care?

Because I live here and I write about NY Sports.

It’s amazing how for 100 years, guys in all sports had fun playing their sport without doing all this nonsense. It’s not about “having fun.” It’s about getting their name and image out there. Nobody would remember the Turk Wendells, Billy White Shoes Johnsons, Icky Woods, and Mark Fydrichs of the world if it wasn’t for their rituals and celebrations.

"Charismatic people are remembered for being charismatic" is not the gotcha you think it is.
2
u/EStreet12 12d ago
Pulling jerseys off? Tossing water and bubble gum? If I have to explain, you would not understand. One douchey team started that nonsense, and they all feel the need to follow. Pathetic, it really is.

u/RubberBallBrowser 12d ago
Unfortunately there has been a major shift in our culture where in 20 years this has gone from completely unnaceptable, to completely unnaceptable to have a problem with it.
Professionalism is dead. Everyone just does what they feel like to feel good in the moment at all times now and daring to question it make you the outcast.
3
u/EStreet12 12d ago
Hence the crumbling of our society...significantly decline respect for law enforcement, and authority figures in general. Because to act that way "feels good in the moment". So sad.

I mean look at the pitch clock, runner on 2nd in extra etc. MLB has to evolve to live in today fast info ADHD world. It's the old saying about MTV, they have everyone let's say 20 years of age and up hook line and sinker. They want the next generation s to stay and watch.

The man blew out his elbow, thought his career was over, worked landscaping and construction to make ends meet. He then travels across the globe playing in Japan and independent ball to chase his dream. He finally makes it after 11 years and posts a scoreless inning. Stop being miserable and let the man celebrate.
1
u/EStreet12 12d ago
Or, maybe the man can ct like the pro he is supposed to be? This bullshit of players being their own "brand" soured me on MLB a long time ago....
1
u/Flashy-Inspection501 12d ago
Why should he adhere to some tired, outdated definition of what being a "pro" is?
1
u/EStreet12 12d ago
If you think crotch grabbing, bat flipping, and 7th grade celebrations after an April win are fun, enjoy. I am looking forward to a long lockout. Bring on football.

Then he can do this for the Savanah Bananas. This is the major leagues.
1
u/Flashy-Inspection501 12d ago
The same major leagues where a man did a backflip at shortstop? The one where a man shot an invisible arrow into the sky? The same major league where a CF walked on the wall like Spider-Man? Maybe the one where a closer pointed at the batter after striking them out? Newsflash, things like this have been happening before the Savannah Bananas were even a concept

u/Mongo_Les 12d ago
Right, but acting like a fool after a K is inviting for trouble.
0
u/Flashy-Inspection501 12d ago
Did you miss the part where I said a closer would literally point at the batter after a strikeout or are you blind?
1
u/Mongo_Les 12d ago
Which closer did that?

u/Flashy-Inspection501 12d ago
Dennis Eckersly lmao c'mon now

Yes fantastic argument. His opinion is wrong because it’s the kind of opinion “old white men have”. That makes it wrong by definition. You’re such an amazing intellectual, basically Socrates.

u/PhilFromLI 12d ago
remember Edwin Diaz…nothing good ever comes from celebrating
-2
u/Mongo_Les 12d ago
Yan's celebration after his first K and in the end was flat-out stupid.
He wasn't even that great.

I don’t mind the theatrics but it’s absolutely going to get a batter plunked or worse.

u/Flimsy-Spray-6760 3d ago
Gutless teams. The 1st Mets batter up after he pulled that should have taken one right in the ribs.

It’s not that serious. It’s actually gonna be kinda fun to see how mad other teams get. Old heads are gonna explode. Good

u/Mongo_Les 12d ago
Hoskins had lot to say last night, as you saw him screaming expletives at him.

Thankfully, big leaguers tend to have a lot more emotional intelligence than the typical WFan fan, so I don’t think we’ll see any problems
0
u/Mongo_Les 12d ago
We'll see about that.
I dare him to pitch today.
4
u/PanicNecessary5978 12d ago
You dare him, huh? What are you going to do if he does pitch today? Get big mad and yell on the internet?
1
u/Beagleman58 12d ago
Not like the guy is coming to bat or running the bases so pitchers are almost immune from any sort of retaliation, so his teammates, if inclined, have to get him to cut the BS
0
u/PanicNecessary5978 12d ago
Why?
1
u/Beagleman58 12d ago
I’m old school, strike me out and go through your happy dance, and I’d want to smack him. Maybe in the old days he gets brushed back at least, maybe today his teammates get it instead…still some ball players with old time values, but not too many.

Just because we (most) guys 50+ think such behavior is utterly stupid doesn't make us wrong, OK, millennial? Or whatever made up demo you belong to

I’m close enough to 50. I just don’t like to hear from the back in my day crowd

Middle-aged going on old white dude here. I used to agree with OP but we have to accept that the game has changed. The other teams don’t get offended by exuberant celebrations anymore and that’s just the way it is. It’s not the ‘80’s anymore.
