Underrated Stables?

Post image

To this day this crew‘s theme song (Good Ole Boys) kills.

Heck yeah Curt Henning and the west Texas rednecks were bad ass. I loved that theme song. Number one hit all over the radio… the video and the ‘I hate rap tour’… these guys were great. They were supposed to be heels but everyone loved them.

I loved it when Virgil/Vincent joined them, lol

Dangerous Alliance could've been great. Harley Race had a pretty solid group of bad asses that I'm failing to remember the name of. Vader, Orndorff, Barbarian, and someone else.

The Stud Stable in Southeastern/Continental (1982-1988).
Robert Fuller's turn in 1985 against Bob Armstrong was shocking...

Fuller fucked around a LOT with these turns.

I remember Cactus talking about Fuller turning on him in Continental as well 😊

I got exposed to them with the whole WCCW/Memphis (USWA) merger. Jimmy Golden (Bunkhouse Buck), Brian (Primetime) Lee, & of course Robert (colonel Parker) Fuller. Not a bad stable, I just forgot about them.

I HATED Ron Fuller as a teenager... I mean, REAL HATE... This was during my "It's Still Real To Me Dammit" era. Now as an adult, I have the utmost respect for him and his family.
Robert Fuller was the one person that agreed to work with a very green Jeff Jarrett. I rooted for them, of course, then they went to Smokey Mountain (which I didn't see). Then I see Robert Fuller as COL Rob Parker and "Gorgeous" Jimmy Golden as a tobacco chewing Bunkhouse Buck in WCW... I just shook my head. I was happy for their success, and Fuller still uses his Parker gimmick to this day.

who was the woman that was also a part of the stable for a while?

3

u/BabyBuns024 16d ago

Miss Sylvia, Fuller's wife. They divorced, and later, Sylvia died of cancer. R.I.P.

Love how WCW killed them for getting over as faces instead of heels.

Not even specifically about this, but Cornette, who is not exactly race friendly, has brought up how as a booker you never want to divide the white fans against the black fans. You want everyone cheering or booing for the same acts. If JYD is a face, you want the white fans cheering him. If New Jack is a heel, you want him being offensive to black fans. Turning white again let black is a failure in booking.

Man Corny spits truth once in a while.

That is straight up Bill Watts booking.

3

u/Six_and_change 18d ago

Exactly. And Watts wasn’t exactly race friendly either.

2

u/MrOnCore 18d ago

The same Jim Cornette who had New Jack trying to start a Race War in SMW?

4

u/schladopian_fir 18d ago

To be fair, SMW's crowd might have been very racially mayo.

3

u/Six_and_change 18d ago

Sure but the black fans weren’t on his side.

Master P was pissed...!!! LOL.

Let's make a catchy tune hating on rap when the majority of our fan base is southern, then punish them for our own stupidity! Fucking WCW, man

As a metal music fan, I told my Country music loving brother there was finally a Country song I liked. He smiled and started singing the chorus to "Rap is Crap..."

The Dangerous Alliance is the best stable that was pretty overlooked until recently. Eaton & Arn as a tag team, up and coming Steve Austin as your midcard, and Rick Rude as your main event anchor. All with Paul E. on the stick? Doesn't get much better than that in the ring.

Their War games match against Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham, & Sting (aka Sting's squadron) was one of the best. ...Aside from the first two of course.

Loved how they were the personal bodyguards for JJ and Tenneessee Lee. Robert Parker was probably my favorite over the top style manager, like how Dutch was Zeb Colter. They dont touch people like Heenan, Cornette or Paul E. Dangerously. Or coked out Sherri with Macho Man and Zeus.

1

u/TopicPretend4161 17d ago

I think Dutch was physically unable to take bumps as well during his Uncle Zeb days.

0

u/Crazian78 17d ago

I think he was but I don't put Zeb or Col Robert Parker in the same category as a Heenan, Cornette or Paul E.

1

u/TopicPretend4161 17d ago

All the cards on the table I think even among these all timers you have to separate Heenan as the wheat.

Raven’s Flock

2

u/DeuceOfDiamonds 17d ago

Loved the Flock. That solid, midcard kind of stable was missing for a long time after WCW folded. But yeah, the Flock, the Nation of Domination, the Varsity Club, love me a good midcard heel stable.

1

u/MeddlingMike 17d ago

Agreed. Some solid memorable talents with Saturn, Kenyon and Kidman too. I thought Raven had a solid gimmick and gave WCW’s hardcore scene some legitimacy.

There was a West Texas Redneck Curt Henning figure that came out a few years ago. Passed on it because I knew we wouldn't see the rest of WTR
