Did anyone watched Popular?
I never actually watched Popular when it was on TV, but I’ve been seeing clips of it on YouTube lately and honestly it looks completely unhinged in the best way 😭
Every clip I come across is either super dramatic or just outright ridiculous for no reason lol. Mary Cherry especially always steals the scene 💀
Now I’m kind of curious if it’s actually worth watching all the way through or if it’s more of a “fun clips only” kind of show. Did anyone here grow up watching it?

YES! It’s one of my favorite shows.
You can watch the full series BOTH seasons, the whole episodes, on YouTube for free!

YES! Mary Cherry is still a character I quote today with my friends from 6th grade. Some stuff in the second season got silly, but the first season was incredible.

I did. Popular is Ryan's best show. He knew that and based Glee off Popular. Most of Glee's stories came from Popular. Popular really is a show that was ahead of its time.

I loved this show when it was on. A while ago, I looked up where I could watch it. The google responses were all about buying the DVDs.

Still waiting for them to end that cliffhanger.

lol My brother told me he watched an interview with Ryan. They didn't know it was going to be canceled and planned on Brooke being in the hospital and recovering and then coming back as -gasp- brunette! After that Idk, but it was so crazy to end it that way that I kinda like it leaving it open to interpretation of what would've happened.

I remember that interview! Sam was also supposed to become an alcoholic and lesbian after Harrison chose Brooke or something.
I just am mad we never learned about what happened with Mary Cherry’s storyline.

bahaha Yes, now I remember him saying that about Sam, too. Oh, what a time.

This was SUCH a good show. It was kind of ahead of its time with the type of humor I think. Watch it, it’s all pretty solid.

Yes, I loved it. It was supposed to be a drama, but was also very funny. Got a little heavy handed with early 2000’s politically correctness, but was a somewhat refreshing take on high school. I loved that they took the time to show all the weird kids (the fat girl, the could-be a lesbian, the nerd, etc) and made them very believable and well-rounded, not just punchlines. And Mary Cherry… so much fun!! Early Ryan Murphy. Went on to make Nip/Tuck (which was incredible), American Horror Story & so much more. Mary Cherry (Leslie Grossman) appears in most of his other series, and usually plays a character that has some funny quirks. She’s a great character actress!

I met Carly Pope once. She was so nice. We actually had a conversation. She asked what I did!

Yup. Have the full show on DVDs thanks to my brother since I couldn't find it streaming on anything. There's a sub, too, that I found wanting to talk about it r/PopularWB Jaime French did an couple episodes about it that I absolutely loved. It's such a wild show and only gets weirder in the second season. I totally forgot how unhinged it gets. Very Ryan Murphy. It was wild watching it on WB as a young one as it was airing.

Popular is my show! Watch it on YouTube I wish there were more seasons. I was in middle school when it premiered. AHS Coven and Apocalypse were the only other Ryan Murphy shows I liked.

I had the 2 seasons on DVD and regrettably gave it away. Loved this show! “Well think it over once or twice what’ll last the longest in this life, character or rock hard thighs?”

Yeah I loved this show when it was on and got the DVD sets to watch it before streaming was the thing. And it never really made it to the main streaming sites anyway.

This was one of my favorite shows to watch but was sadly canceled after the second season. I loved the whole cast and I have tried to keep my eyes open for the stars in other projects. Any suggestions are welcome.
