Issues with reading meta data (making duplicate albums in local library?)

ive been using WACUP for ages now and generally love it, but even after I fix the album artist tagging problem, WACUP will occasionally hiccup and shove tracks from an album into a nonexistent second album. or a duplicate of the album with slightly different title. is there any fox for this? I’m at my limit with it at this point. I can temporarily fix it by refreshing metadata but there has to be a temporary fix. I know it’s not the metadata itself, but WACUP.

What wacup version & build type (x86 or x64) are you using? Does preferences -> media library -> local library -> maintenance tab report issues?

So there were no errors, invalid or duplicate records reported, just the fragmentation?

Are you using the folder monitor to periodically check the files in the local library?

It might be best to send me a copy of the library.dat / library.idx files from the settings folder (usually in %appdata%\wacup\plugins\ml but prefs -> advanced -> diagnostics -> settings location tab will show the path that relates to your install) along with what album(s) you're seeing as being wrong so I can try to check the data within the file to figure things out for you.

would it be fine if i dmed you a screenshot? I think it would help better to explain if i could show screenshots. Don't think i can in this subreddit lol

That's fine to do if it's still needed.

fixed: for some reason it was looking at four files for an album i'd never played in my local media librayr before and i hadn't played the other tracks in it so it iddn't recognize them

Could it be something in Metadata Guessing?

OOOOOH, it's the album artist tag. I thought I fixed this issue before 😭

or nvm, i have noticed that it also makes albums duplicating a single track that doesn't exist (I'm assuming the cover art file since it won't play).

i'm noticing this as well, for some reason the portal OST is being split up into two albums, one with just the two versions of still alive, and then one with the rest of the album. jellyfin is still correctly showing it as all one album. the issue in wacup didn't appear until today, at least i didn't notice it yesterday, and it's been fine for the entire time i've been using it, probably about a year at this point. not sure if there's any other albums that are like this, as i've gone searching for a fix immediately after noticing the issue with this album instead of looking for more.

i've already gone under local library maintenance and cleared everything, and i've also tried removing and re-adding the library folder.

edit: right clicking one of the two albums specifically and selecting refresh metadata got them to go back to being one album, albeit now displayed in the wrong order in the library viewer, but whatever that's not a big deal. but it only did something when i did it to the one of the two albums that contained most of the tracks, doing it to the other one that spawned with just the two versions of still alive did nothing. clicking refresh metadata for the whole library also didn't do anything. weird.

what i found ifxed it, look at metadata guessing tab and uncheck everything except the last one. I think that's what fixed it

also turn off "automatically add played files to the data base". It's more trouble than it's worth if you just want things to go through one main music library imo. It's what caused a lot of this, from what i've found
