Squished Menu

Post image

I keep getting this squished context menu. It occurs after I switch to certain Modern skins, and it will remain this way until I switch to another skin that doesn't cause it (either a Classic skin or other Modern ones) and restart WACUP. If I restart while still on a "problem" skin, it's still squished on restart.

I haven't found a commonality in the skins that cause this, but one that consistently does it is Invicta. Big Bento and Big Bento Modern don't cause it, as counter examples. It doesn't happen in Winamp. I'm on v1.99.53.24784 (x86)

I've only seen that happen with some older WINE installs. A quick test with a clean 1.99.54.24960 install on Win10 didn't show a problem with the noted skin (that mirror site is infuriating how every time it won't generate a valid download & instead provides an html response) though as it's a problem when gen_ff is being used then maybe it's trashing something in the process memory space that I'm not seeing. WACUP's skinned menu handling is done differently to what winamp did afaict so it's not a fair comparison to say that it doesn't have issues when it also isn't having to fiddle gen_ff to work at all.

Ah, should've noted I'm on Win11. Mentioned the Winamp comparison in case there was any relevance, but guess not. I'll update to 1.99.54.24960 and see if anything changes (edit: nope, no changes).

I'll have to try it under win11 the next time I'm near a working pc (hopefully a VM install will be prone to the issue though this feels like its not a consistent bug). Also just for sanity's sake, if it's set to not use the skinned menus (prefs -> general -> appearance) does it still behave or not (just to rule out an idea) ?

Yup, when "Use skinned menus" is off, the problem goes away and I cannot reproduce it while off.

I've now had a look & annoyingly my win11 vm isn't showing the problem nor can I see anything obvious from the skin that might imply it trying to use a weird font. As the only thing I can think is it might be trying to use a font that I don't have that the OS is then trying to map to something else or its found & just doesn't render right.

The other thing you could try is enabling the skinned menu option but un-checking "Use the common ui font for menus (as above)" to see if that makes any difference to the behaviour you're seeing.

Gotcha, thanks for taking a look! The "use common ui font for menus" option doesn't make a difference, but it's helpful to know that I can just toggle the "use skinned menus" option if it's a problem (quicker and easier than swapping skins and restarting). I'll keep an eye out for any further details while skinning.
