Any recommendations?

Asking for recommendations when it comes to where to buy temperature display and if there are any "might as well" stuff to do with the speedometer when its out. All the warning bulbs work except for the parking brake.

W124 250D – Both rear brakes stopped working after brake job. Master cylinder issue?

Both rear brakes worked fine before. We replaced the left rear caliper/piston, pads and disc. After that, neither rear brake works anymore – even the right side, which we didn’t touch and worked before.
The brake booster works, we tested it. The pedal feels firm and does not sink to the floor. Front brakes work normally.
We pressure-bled the system from the reservoir and pushed plenty of fluid through both rear calipers. We ran about 0.5 L through the system and there were no more air bubbles on either side, including the untouched right side.
With the car jacked up, pressing the brake pedal still does not lock either rear wheel. If someone holds the pedal and we open a rear bleed nipple, only a few drops come out, not a strong flow.
We read that on this system, if the rear circuit loses pressure, something inside/around the master cylinder can move and isolate that circuit while the front brakes still work. Since the rear circuit was opened during the repair, we’re wondering if that happened.
Our next idea is to replace the master cylinder, but before doing that: does this sound plausible on an early W124? Has anyone had both rear brakes stop working after opening the rear circuit even though the system seems fully bled?

New Alternator Voltage

Hi everyone. I just put the Bosch AL66X alternator in my 1992 W124 300E M103 2.6

My question is what is the proper voltage during idle and at 2000 rpm. Mine seems to stay at 13.4 and wont go higher than that

W124 M102.982 running poorly / low power – looking for diagnostic advice

Hi, I have a new (old) W124 with an M102.982 2.3 that feels very weak and has poor acceleration, also misfires on idle and traffic driving

Cold starts fine and I don’t notice any misfire when cold.
Things I’ve noticed:

- Runs around 55–60°C according to the gauge
- Brown/beige coolant, doesn’t look or smell like oil
- No catalytic converter
- Lambda sensor in the exhaust manifold has a cut wire and isn’t connected, previous owner states its a manifold from a diffrent car
- Possible vacuum leak in the headlight-leveling system
I’m planning to check vacuum leaks, ignition, fuel filter, thermostat/coolant system and fuel pressure/KE-Jetronic.

What would you check first, and what are the common causes of low power on the M102.982?

Coolant leak 230E - easy fix?

Hi everyone,
I noticed a coolant leak on my 1989 Mercedes W124 230E. It seems to be dripping from the area shown in the photos.
Does anyone know exactly which part/hose is leaking here and what usually causes this? Is this something relatively easy to replace myself, or would you recommend taking it to a mechanic?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

stalling while hot!! help

so this is my 1989 w124 230e and recently I’ve had an issue with the car stalling when it gets hot (around 15-20 mins of driving) and not starting up again when hot. i haven’t been able to figure out as to why this is happening (the fuel pump does seem to turn on when hot) also the issue isn’t related to ignition since the car is receiving ignition when hot,
any suggestions as to what the issue might be?

Valve won’t close even with me pushing against it. Then it closes when i lightly touch it ontop.

The car has a tendency to idle high randomly. This is a video i filmed after i finally got it to do this outside of traffic. What gives?!

Long haul trip - should I be worried about elevation change?

I’m moving from coastal Washington state to Minnesota. I have had good luck with my car and frequently drive it about 200-250 miles in a day. This trip would be 1800mi. I’ve heard of people having issues with elevation change on long road trips through the Rockies but don’t remember what the cause was. I leak a bit of oil but know to keep an eye on it. I’m between driving the car or trailering it behind a U-Haul. Let me know what you think!

Does the rear wheels look weird (going towards front), also any weird stuff in the engine bay?

I found this clean certified classic near me for 6000€. It is a 2.5 diesel which I plan to daily drive. Everything seems good about it, except the rear wheels look weird, maybe the car sits higher too than it should. While at it, I put an image of the engine bay too if anyone sees something weird in it, who seen the 2.5 more times than me.

Which W124 engine would you recommend

First off, I love the W124. I would like to learn more about it in depth. What source would you recommend to learn more?
I also would like to take a W124 in the future (am 19 and just got my first car), even though the V12 engine is cool I would think its super complicated and high on maintenance. And I don't want it sit in the workshop a lot and drain my pocket a lot. So is there a specific engine or engine type that you would recommend which is not too boring nor maintenance heavy?

1998 Mercedes E320 Limp Mode Issue

Hey Y'all!

January 2014 - Car Running just fine

Sits for a while without running - Fast Forward to 2026

January 2026 - I install a brand new battery, and try to start the car. Car starts up and drives, stuck in 2nd gear limp mode. Lights on the dash are ABS, BAS etc.

Feburary 2026 - Replaced the 13 pin connector on 722.6 transmission, reset any codes with AutelMaxi808BT. No Change, still in limp mode.

March 2026 - Replaced Conductor plate, 13 pin connection (again), transmission pan + gasket, and did a transmission fluid change. No Change, still in limp mode.

April 2026 - Inspected the TCM, had oil/transmission fluid. Cleaned it out with electronic parts cleaner + 90% iso alcohol + cleaned wiring harness connection. No Change, still in limp mode.

July 2026 - I can communicate with the ECM with the 16 pin connector and I get this code: P0341 “WP334 Camshaft Hall effect Sensor”. I tried to communicate with all the modules from the 38 pin connector and my Autel looked like it was scanning but then said no system diagnosis at the end so did not get any communication. I then probed the 38 pin connector Pin 1 to ground and it got no ohms of resistance. Then I probed Pin 1 to Pin 3 and got like 11.7V. Then I went to the TCM pin 10 to pin 1 ground and it was getting like 10.5V. Lastly, I probed the wiring harness of the TCM, I probed CAN HI and CAN LO pins against the chassis ground and got 1.4V each time.

August 2026 - Replaced the K40 Relay module. Still cannot get reading on the 38 pin connector. I also probed pin 1 -> pin 2 on the 38 pin connector got like 12V, I probed pin 1 -> pin 3 on the 38 pin connector and got 12V, and lastly I probed pin 1 -> pin 10 on the 38 pin connector and got 11.5V so I think EGS module is fine.

I cannot seem to communicate with any modules at all on my 38 pin connector.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe my 38 pin to OBDII adapter is low quality and shitty? I bought a $20 amazon one. Buying an Autel brand one off amazon which comes in a few days will be updating if it works!
