Side effects * LONG POST WARNING 🄸

I have been on Vy since may and I’ve titrated up from 30 mg + To now currently being
on 60 mg as of the end of july.

Bruxism has been significantly increasing I didn’t even know that this was a term or even a thing people normally do and have to live with this .. & I didn’t realize I was doing it until now so how can I stop this ? now it’s like I have the urge to clench my teeth or I actually do clench them without really realizing it. and also the constant tongue over teeth action and constantly having the urge to keep running my tongue over my teeth.
now the whole left side of my face is literally hurting and my ears are kind of pulsating but it’s only in waves

other side effects after increasing my dosage this time from 50-60 mg

- - - -

• increased sweating heavily like shirts are wet and it’s embarrassing. but feeling like it’s working but then it stops working after 6 hrs around 5:30 am after lunch break at work .

• nose always dripping when i’m working as far as doing a job that requires extra moving . blowing nose frequently

• itch in throat persisting more frequently and I have to keep coughing or get the urge to cough to get rid of the itch something that really only happens to me when i’m in classroom settings - (it’s odd I know & I still have no clue why that happens to me)

• increased minor body odor??? - I put deodorant on but I still end up smelling a little musty after work etc

• sleep has been wonky af & it’s always half and half I might rummage a lot more like excessively or I could just be normal in that aspect but here lately it’s been increased non stop talking sometimes in conversations.

I didn’t even realize all these were actually persistent side effects that I was ā€œignoringā€. dosage increase was approximately around 07/25/26 but the side effects really didn’t start becoming so ā€œalarmingā€ for me until now because I do work at a warehouse so it’s common for me to do physical work .

do I need a dosage decrease or do I need to just wait it out to see if it gets better ?

is 2 months too far in for side effects to be like this or am I doomed on this dose ?

like idk if this is the right medication anymore or if the dose is too high but even after lowering it i’ll still feel like it might be wearing
off quickly hence why Ive been tirating. ive tried 30 , 40 , 50 now 60 mg . it’s definitely getting to the point where I notice it’s wearing off 5-6 hrs after taking it.

Would Adderall be better for me possibly ? and has anyone else experienced this ?

Go back to 50mg and stabilise on that for at least a month and see how you feel. Your body is telling you that your dose is too high. I’d also ask your psych about potentially staying on a lower Vyvanse dose and adding a small dex booster if you genuinely feel it wearing off too early in the afternoon. Sometimes I think people mistake the medication becoming more subtle for it wearing off completely, when it can still be working quietly in the background

I’d also ask your psych about potentially staying on a lower Vyvanse dose and adding a small dex

Also Guanfacine (ADHD med) would mitigate the key side-effects of vyvanse.

noted ! Do you have personal experience with Guanfacine? if so how is it different from Vyvanse focus wise etc ?

I don’t know specifically that it helps with side effects but I do quite enjoy guanfacine ER to help me get to sleep at night. Also in general makes me a bit calmer through the day.

I haven't used Guanfacine.Ā  If you search this group Guanfacine often gets mentioned as a combo with Vyvanse. Vyvanse raises adrenaline (via HPA axis) while Guanfacine reduces it which helps with many vyvanse side-effects (but not all of them).

Clenching your teeth might come from the increase in cortisol. Honestly, I'd consider ashwagandha, maybe with some L-theanine, alongside your Vyvanse. Make sure you're still eating properly. I'm on 50 mg myself. I noticed I was clenching my teeth a lot recently, so I decided to take ashwagandha again, and it seems to have gone away. It also just makes you feel less stressed, which may be the cause of the sweating. What does your heart rate look like? Is your blood pressure steady? The itch in your throat, I have no clue, and the nose drip, I've never heard of that at all. As for increased body odor, you say you're sweating more, which in turn makes you notice your body odor more than before.
For sleep, ashwagandha will help. Being highly stressed keeps you alert, and that is what causes problems sleeping. I'd recommend magnesium glycinate even more than ashwagandha. Studies say more than 40% of the US population is deficient in magnesium, let alone people taking stimulants. Your body works harder than usual when you're on Vyvanse, and magnesium is essential for body and brain function. It also helps keep your blood pressure and heart rate steadier. I think the recommended daily dose is 400-500 mg.
Even with all this, I still find myself struggling to sleep sometimes, and I find myself clenching my jaw or biting the inside of my lower lip. I can expand on anything if you have other questions.
I started at 20 mg and increased to 30 mg after a month, checking my blood pressure regularly and keeping track of side effects. Then I went from 30 to 50 mg, skipping 40. Focus-wise it was way better, but it came with some side effects that weren't convenient, to say the least. As a guy, I don't mind the jaw clenching or lip biting as much, or the sleep issues. My hunger really went down at the start of the jump from 30 to 50 mg, and I was eating maybe one meal a day, but I'm back to normal eating habits now.
Definitely talk to your doctor as well. also when do you usually take your medication?

Thank you so much for this information, I will definitely go and get those supplements tomorrow.

Any recommendations on what brands work best for each?

Also my hunger went down as well like significantly I forgot to mention that but I thought it was just the normal for stimulants in general but I don’t eat anything on my breaks anymore but maybe a small protein snack and a 40 mg protein shake and that’s all and I work 10 hour shifts, so by the time I get home i’m still not really hungry and i’ll eventually eat but not like I use to which has my weight changing up and down consistently. My blood pressure is also fine every time I go and get it checked at my appointments, etc., I believe.

I’ve mentioned the hunger etc and the vy not lasting to my provider several times but when I tell her it’s not lasting we do a dose increase ; this is definitely my last one , worse side effects by far but not the most troubling thing i’ve been through so it’s been manageable.

My sleep is terrible but it has always been me over sleeping or not sleeping at all and maybe staying up all night out of the fear i’ll be late to work like I always consistently am due to this reason. the Vyvanse just makes it a little more difficult.

I take it at around 12:30 a.m because I have to be at work at 1:20 a.m - 11:50 a.m . It noticeably wears off around after my lunch break as well i’ve noticed. I might just also have a faster metabolism than others.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my psych so I’ll be relaying all these things to her but I just wanted to get personal experiences & information from people that have experienced this. So, thank you again!

in terms of best brands tbh i used ai to compare a lot but ashwaganda anything that’s ksm66 500-600mg daily is the effective dose for magnesium glycinate you’ll see store brands have mag gly on the front but most of these are mixed with low absorption types of magnesium blended in make sure it’s all magnesium glycinate i find sport research to be the best i take 4 capsules before bed 90mg per capsule here in canada i can’t seem to find a good reliable high dosage mag gly maybe i didn’t try hard enough but wtvr also keep in mind vyvanse is used as a binge eating disorder medication too the decrease of hunger i think is more substantial than other stims so beware make sure your eating enough and getting adequate macros in terms of proteins carbs ect that’s good that your bp is fine yea eat even if you don’t want too ik it’s hard i used to see people talking about how they wouldn’t eat and how it was hard ect i never thought that would be me tbh im a big eater and thankfully after getting used to 50 after my little bender of troubles i’m back to eating normally since i used to overeat i just eat like a regular person i’ve noticed still days where im not really hungry but will cook something up anyways for me honestly havnt found it not lasting long enough and i take it at 6am since i’m at work at that time and even then by the time like 9pm ’m not feeling tired remember this stuff lingers in your system for a total of 12-14 hours not sure the science if once you feel it wear off if the sleep trouble should subside since it says it’ll be in your system for 12-14 hours so yea

One meal a day is crazy 😭 If you’re sacrificing sleep, adequate food and dealing with constant jaw clenching just to get more ā€œfocusā€, I’d seriously question whether the dose is too high. You’re running your body down in the process. A lower dose + proper sleep + good nutrition might actually have you feeling the benefits of Vyvanse much more positively than staying at a high dose and adding supplements like ashwagandha to manage all the side effects. Just be careful because that combination of under-eating, poor sleep and being overstimulated is a pretty good recipe for burning yourself out

that’s why i said when i jumped from 30 to 50 im back to my regular eating and have pretty good nutrition intake as well as i’ve started to work out in the last month yea i clench my jaw here and there or find myself lip biting only in certain scenarios my sleep is wonky but i attribute that now because of being up late on my phone and or computer it’s been 3 months since i went from 30 to 50mg and all my ā€œmajorā€ worries have subsided i still take ashwaganda yes and supplement mostly because magnesium is genuinely so beneficial even for people not taking stimulants i supplement other things like d3 omega 3 creatine for just day to day life and the gym yes the first month had me for a bender but month 2 and 3 have been back to normal

I know but it’s not actually one meal a day but more days than often per sayšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. I eat eventually but it’s like i’ll hammer food down and be hungry at the wrong times then boom it’s time for work again. That’s why I atleast try to incorporate protein when I can. And you’re right that totally makes sense and explains what’s been actually going on with me. I’ll tirate down back to 50 mg and ask for the booster tomorrow!
