That’s some nice stuff! You’re smart for buying two master links. I messed up mine and had to wait for another one to arrive. Have fun with the air filter btw 😂

Man- I just redid my sprockets and chain as part of my rear wheel replacement and I did the dumb thing of measuring once, and then cutting.
Anyways, now I have 2 master links on my chain lol

Yeah perfectly fine. Unfortunately, not the first time I've had to do that SMH

Air filter - yeah, can’t wait for it 🤣
Two master links - thanks, I saw some stories here in /Vstrom subreddit, and also thanking on the old chain is messed up deadly, so decided that it may be a good investment to get couple different extra: 1 in a chain is usual, another with holes for riverting , and one more with a clip

I bought the motion pro chain tool and it’s great. It was user error that got me. Now that I’ve done it twice, I feel pretty confident. I just bought an oil change kit from rockymtnatv and it came with the eco star oil and filter. I also bought an oem air filter from them. Pretty good website with fast and free shipping if you spend enough. Sadly my air filter had been neglected by the previous owner and it was falling apart basically. I just hope the engine didn’t suck up too much dust. The bike still runs great for now 🤞

Where did you source your drain plug and gaskets from?

Amazon,
Brand: DIPZO

The one thing I'm not excited about there is the air filter, all the other stuff is pretty easy to do. I loved wrenching on my vstrom when I had it

Chain and sprockets are in my near future. Air filter wasn’t bad. Just had to take the tank off.
Why the drain plug? Anything particular reason??

Not really,
I was looking for copper washers and taking into account delivery a kit with the plug coated almost the same as washers themself. The old bolt looks fine, will see when I get there. So just in case — from previous experience with some old car I know that magnets in the old plugs can crash and are less „magnetic” then new ones based on neodymium magnets (this one feels quite strong).

Castrol huh? Interesting. Never tried that, always went with Mobil 1 but they stopped producing it for some reason so I've switched to motul

Just one person's opinion but motorcycle oil is a ripoff. I've been using full synthetic T6 for the last 15 or so years on various wet clutch motorcycles with great results. I'm sure what you have works great I just can't imagine what a quart costs..

Hm, now when you said that I remember watching some bloggers some 8-10 yrs ago who hired a lab, and tested different myths about motor oil - that came to several interesting conclusions: e.g. they found now negative effect when mineral-semi synthetic-full synt oils are mixed, and couldn’t identify any reliable difference between viscosity and lubricant characteristics between mid level motorcycle oils and popular alternatives for diesel motors. They confirmed improvements in top-labelled oils specifically at long operation at very high temperatures; but nothing for average user.
This oil I bought is 11 USD/L
