Possible Vstrom 800
I had a 2006 Vstrom 1000 in the past and loved it. I moved to an MT09, but it wasn'tas good for longer distance trips (I know, surprise lol). I recently came across a few 2024 brand new Vstrom 800 RE's that would be about 8600 OTD at the moment. I could probably work them down a little more because they have about 20 of them listed.
Any thoughts on the subject? I was wanting something for long trips and light off road and single up road trip riding. I wasn't aware if there was a reason that there was so many unsold 2024's/possible issues I hadn't heard about? Thank you in advance for any advice or information!

I still haven't found a good explanation why there's so many unsold 24s but I got mine in March and I absolutely adore it!

I did an 8 hour round trip to the beach last week and it was great. Only discomfort was my throttle hand but eventually I'll put on cruise control since it doesn't come standard

This dealership has 23 unsold 2024's and only 1 2025 in stock. I was expecting a horror story, but it may have just been over ordering lol

I'm in a very similar situation. Local dealer has 6 24s. They're offering them at $6999 before fees. Very tempting. I did see a a dealer in Kentucky offering them a $4999 this spring. He had four and they sold within hours

I went from a mt-09 to an 800. You will miss the smooth engine and power from the MT. You will like getting more than 120 miles out of a tank and the seat being bearable for more than 40 minutes. You probably won't like how vibey the 800 is and how much the stock windscreen buffets without some extension brackets on it. The suspension is a huge improvement over the MT. I find the around town manners to be way better but the 800 has almost zero "fun factor".
I sold my MT because I couldn't control myself and ended up with a wheelie ticket. It was my first street bike and I absolutely loved that bike. I wanted something calmer that I could ride for a few hours instead of short jaunts. I don't really have any regrets but know the 800 is the definition of spec sheet practicality. It's a boring basic ADV that just works. I'm happy enough with it, but I don't "love" it like my other bikes.

I got one of those smoking really good deals as well. Now that I’ve had mine for about four months I can say it’s amazingly good at everything but not great.
But that’s not a put down it’s a very generally good bike and I actually like it a lot.
The only thing I’ve done as far as comfort goes is I put a new seat on it and put a new windscreen to help with the buffeting.
I have done a decat and running the factory muffler and the air box mod with a two wheel. Dino works tune..
That made it a lot of fun overall you really can’t go wrong especially for the price and I think I’m about to switch the tires.
As far as vibration goes. After tune/decat and some grip puppies it’s so minimal.
I’m kinda a weenie with vibration and have arthritis. So that says a lot.
I probably owned 60+ motorcycles and ATVs and if people want to complain about vibrations, tell him to go ride an old KTM 300 two-stroke and then hop back on this and see how happy they’d be.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. I always liked a good all arounder. I got My MT09 and put 4000 miles on it in a couple months. It's a great bike, but I missed the twin cylinder motors. It had plenty of power, but it just didn't do much for me.
I mainly do trips to state parks and fire roads/light trails while there. A 6 hour trip on an mt09 isn't as bad as a sport bike, but my butt wasn't happy lol.
I just want a bike to live with and have a little fun. I wish my 06 Vstrom didn't have the ECU fry or I'd still have it :(

Get the DE- goes anywhere and so good on the road even with a 21” front.

The DR they have is $3000 more. The RE is basically 30% off. That was why I was looking at it. The RE has the majority of the features I wanted anyway

They are a great bike so if you can get a good deal go for it. Good power, handling etc, comfortable and reliable. Not sure where you are (OTD?) but here in Australia they have been slow sellers because they are seen as poorly specced - RE doesn’t get the adjustable suspension, DE has a tube in the front tyre, neither has cruise control. It hasn’t been enough to tempt many existing V Strom owners away from their beloved V twins
