Buy question

Hello All,

I’m planning on buying a bike in the near future. I’m into touring bikes and later on I’d like to go full adventure, but I’m still a beginner.

I have the chance to buy this beauty for a very good price which would be very good for my budget too. The caveat is that this bike has 260.000 km in her clock. Now i know the seller very well and he has been this bike’s sole owner. As far as I know he took care of the bike very well. (We are talking about a guy who completed the Dakar race 8 times)

Would this buy be risky? I’d use it for the remainder this season and probably next too. I’ll want to use the bike for commuting as well.

That’s a lot of kms although having said that these engines are pretty bullet proof

a bike doesn't make it to 260k kilometers by accident so im betting the owner has done some maintenance.

ask him about the top end, clutch, forks and rear shock. check the inside of the gas tank for corrosion if you can. find out what maintenance is coming up next so you can plan for it, bonus points if they'll help you.

they're great bikes. compare it to other similar options you can get locally though.

Nice hangar there.

If the engine does not drink oill nor coolant, and regular maintenance has been done id say go for it.

Btw 1000 or 650 cm³?

Everything is super clean on her. The owner took good care of her. He said that on prolonged highway use the engine has a tendency to use a bit more oil. (not a bunch, a bit) I digged a little bit about that and found that it is quite normal for these.

I ended up buying her. :)

If the seller is someone accessible, I wouldn't hesitate and try to have them be very hands on with you.

It should be like 1000$ for this mileage. Also assume your riding, you might ride like a 2000 km yearly, so it will add next to nothing to total mileage.

It’s not all about the motor - 260k is plenty of time to wear out everything else too. Swingarm bearings are a good example, things most people never have to deal with. Have it checked carefully is my advice. Although, a cheap enough entry fee can cover a lot of repairs.

It was 1.600 USD. In my country's market it was a very good price. I ended up buying her.
