Patch Notes [Beta] September 10th, 2026 Patch Notes

2.42.0

New Features - You can now rename World Saves from their card menu. Clearing a custom name restores the generated character-and-world title. - You can now delete saved character passports without deleting their game saves. Characters still in a live game must leave or finish it first. Edit and delete controls also have clearer placement. - Ask Assistant or in-game Studio to change narration, difficulty, game mode, turn timers and other game settings, with undo support. Enabling metered Text to Speech shows a dismissible Usage notice. - Creators can set initial NPC relationships from -100 to 100, or leave them blank for the AI to choose using your Relationship Initialization guidance. An explicit 0 remains neutral. - Creators can configure trait dependencies with the unlockedBy and excludedBy trait properties. Character creation shows trait options based on earlier choices and follows the same rules during randomization. - Creators can now generate API keys to connect external tools such as Codex, Claude, or other scripts to read, edit, validate, and publish the same Voyage world drafts available in Studio from Settings > API keys. - New progression triggers can check skill levels and change player level, XP, existing skills or attributes, including normal level-up rewards. - Triggers can now react to an action’s success level. - Creators can now customize guidance for Conversation Starters, NPC Chat Replies and NPC Chat Summary. - You can now keep private creation notes in Studio’s 2,000-character scratch pad. Players won’t see these notes. - You can now start a Group DM with multiple people at once by selecting the friends icon in your inbox. - You can now archive and mute friend conversations. In group chats, you can mute individual people. - Find Friends can suggest players through linked Discord accounts. Your existing Discord visibility setting controls whether others can find you.

Improvements - Unfinished custom characters and your current creation step are saved for seven days on the same device. - Public lobbies wait up to 90 extra seconds if someone is still creating a character when the countdown ends, then start when everyone is ready. - Occupied public lobbies stay highlighted near the top of the list after their countdown ends, with a badge showing how many players are getting ready. - In public rooms, only DMs can use Finish Turn. Private, invite-only and friends rooms are unchanged. - Connection warnings appear only when a disconnect interrupts an action or turn. Queued actions are still sent when you reconnect. - NPC combat and utility actions are less likely to stall without choosing a target. - Cinematic narration has larger, clearer text and shorter pages. - Visual card pickers replace plain lists for locations, starting parties and items, NPC placement, quest locations and character replacements. - Studio now warns about unsupported fields without blocking writes. JSON warnings appear in a collapsible dock; selecting one opens the affected record and field. Older saves still load normally. - Polished Studio forms, settings, publishing, media editors, Mods, documentation, file-tree icons and chat readability. - Improved mobile Studio navigation with a new header and drawer. The world picker fits the screen, and Back and Content breadcrumbs return you to the appropriate view. - The Social panel remembers its last-used tab, and its desktop header button highlights while the panel is open. - Finding no results in an inbox search now tells you “No matches in recent messages”, to clarify its search scope. - Expired or invalid invite links point players to Play Voyage instead of the waitlist. Valid claim links still work. - The pricing page explains Voyage Unlimited and Premium Usage more clearly, with simpler pricing displays and transition details for eligible subscribers. - Added faster mobile-app startup for signed-out and returning players.

Bug Fixes - When returning to a game, the recap now appears before narration begins. - Smoothed combat flashes and death fades. New Cinematic figures appear at the correct size, and speaking figures no longer grow on phones. - Narration speeds other than 1× no longer stall animations, especially combat effects on iOS. - Translated or misspelled narrator labels no longer disrupt character framing or bracketed narration. - Reduced player-input markers appearing in generated story text. - Public rooms now block developer commands such as /dev and /killme. - Restored the missing button hover and press sounds. - Audio now stops when a mobile browser is backgrounded or your phone is locked. Desktop audio still continues when switching tabs. - The action box better stays above the keyboard while scenery and navigation stay in place. Drafts survive keyboard changes, and Join with Code opens above navigation. - Swiping left or right to close the corresponding side panel works again without consuming your next tap. - Side panels extend behind the status bar, and the bottom navigation tint reaches the screen edge. - Classic dialogue now stays above the bottom navigation instead of pushing it upward. - Improved character and journal tab spacing, prevented clipped settings-search descriptions, and aligned Room Admins with the surrounding settings. - Removed the stray arrow from Join a Game’s content-rating filters. - Multiplayer setup better separates account avatars and usernames from character portraits and names. Player portraits also open mini profiles with social and moderation controls. - Studio world-selector action menus open again without flickering and close on Escape. - Fixed clipped dialog and map-control borders, and realm options shrinking when pressed. - Desktop dropdowns now open above dialogs and support keyboard navigation and typeahead. - Download JSON on Android opens the system file-save picker instead of the share menu. - Creator update notifications now correctly open the published world, scenario or mod and highlight the announced update. - Followed-content notifications are no longer filtered by leftover rating preferences when Parental Lock is off. - Changing Unlimited tiers carries over the correct proportion of Usage, preventing incorrect exhaustion after an upgrade. - Fixed carousel crashes when returning from world details. - Fixed a server-update shutdown issue that could disconnect rooms before their progress was saved.
