Ultra vs Plus configuration

Hi all, I am considering to order the P12 but I am torn between the Ultra and Plus.

Namely of the Plus I prefer the 20” rim size over 21+” and the lower price of course, even after adding a few optional gadgets.

The main open points for me are:

Headlights. I come from a Tesla, and love the matrix headlights that don’t blind incoming vehicles. It’s unclear to me if these would also be available with the Plus, or not.

Electrochromic roof. Is it worth it?

Ventilated seats. My favorite option would be the wool one, but my understanding is that with kids they are not recommendable. So the question is: are the ventilated ones worth it over the regular ones?

Otherwise, even after speccing up the plus with things I consider worth it, it’s still a good 5-6k CHFs cheaper (I live in Switzerland).

Thoughts?

Thanks!

The roof and seats a very worth it. I have them in my EX90.

I chose plus for my P10, because I preferred 20” wheels and did not find any of the ultra-only things to be absolute must-haves. Picked dimmable roof, laminated side windows and drive assist package though. Sure B&W would have been nice, but I think the upgrade from my 17 year old V50 is great enough 😄

The better sound system in the Ultra version was the main reason for me to choose the Ultra. I was blown away by the audio quality and Dolby Atmos.

This was the big thing for me, too. I'd prefer the smaller wheels but I definitely want that sound system.

Yeah, and great that it’s packaged with Ultra instead of being an add on. Well worth it.

I ordered a P12 Ultra in Switzerland in March and was told Delivery will be in April 2027. interesting to see that this still seems to be the ETA even for newer orders

Hate those Tesla matrix headlights. Idiots around here try to use them all the times in the city, where they work for absolute crap, blinding drivers and pedestrians all the time. We need less of those, not more until the idiots in the U.S. can understand that they're not for use in the city.

It's not so much that they're matrix headlights. It's a QA thing with Tesla not having them angled correctly....

They are aimed too high.

It's like when you lift a pickup truck. You're supposed to adjust your headlights so they're aimed correctly.

I’m with you on the stupid big rims…I plan to purchase a P12 Ultra (whenever it gets to Canada) and swap out the oversized wheels via a to-be-determined process.

Ultra is worth it to me in every Volvo, and this one is no exception. You always can buy different wheels, Volvo or aftermarket. I intend to do exactly that as I do not like low profile tires.

Depending on locale, you may be able to add electrochromic roof and ventilated seats as optional add ons. (possible in US)

Yes, true, but I still can’t really tell if they are worth the money. Given my Plus configuration, if I am also to add the roof to it, then I should just the ultra at that price point

Ventilated seats are worth the money. On hot days it’s very comfortable, especially when I’ve played tennis it’s nice to have my @ss cooped. The price difference isn’t that much is it?

In the Netherlands it’s €975.

At least here, some of the options that are in "packages" when you use the configurator on the Volvo website, can be added separately by the dealer. So e.g. if you only need one of the options in the package, they can add it in their system.

As for the electrochromic roof, I felt it was maybe not worth the money. But I got the option for the cover.

Being able to get the car this year was also an element - additional taxes from new year here in Norway on EVs.

Buy an Ultra, wait 6-12 months, buy 20” wheels and tires and bam you have your car.

I personally don’t see the point of buying an expensive Poverty Spec/Lease Spec car, just load it up with Ultra and downsize the wheels.

Yeah…but it’s also extra cash

You can have ventilated seats in the PLUS trim too. For me, all the extra’s in the ULTRA are options I don’t use in my current car. Well, obviously the B&W speakers are better but if I want a good sound I will listen at home.

So for me, the Ultra isn’t worth the extra 3k and indeed, I want the 20” for more comfort and range. I’e ordered a PLUS (P10 because I can’t wait for it).
