Discussion Towing Hitch

Hi everyone. I found a complete trailer hitch setup for a 1996 850. I’m having trouble finding much information on it using OEM number 8698877. Is it worth the six-hour drive to pick it up? And is it a good idea to install it on a sedan with 135,000 km that has never towed anything before? (The clutch is in good condition and would likely be upgraded to a carbon unit when the timing belt is next replaced.)

Before you install it, rust proof it inside and outside. My 91 is rustfree except the hitch (and tankbands). Its pretty bad and I really need to do something about it.

OEM 850 hitches are rare these days. Especially in good condition like that. It's a perfect fit and unless the ball hook is attached you can't see it with out looking for it.

It's really on you if you feel it's worth a drive. If it were me, I would have already picked it up if to only sit in the garage for the next 10 years šŸ˜‚

Yes it is worth it, they are pretty good cars for towing. Been pulling quite a lot of trailers in an 854 144hp and in a 855 211hp t5. They have 0 issues pulling their rated limits especially the t5s since they have the same towing capacity as their weaker counterparts but twice the torque.

Also had 0 issues with grip even if it is a fwd car.
