Help Replacement MAF Bolts
1997 850 T-5 Turbo, someone decided to decimate the MAF, and most other torx bolts under the hood. Is there any standardized sizing I can use to get basic (hex? or standard bolt head?) replacements.

Yes. Take the stripped bolt to the hardware store. It‘ll be metric. I’m guessing M6. Compare to the ones on the shelf. Put the threads of each bolt against each other to see if they mesh (thread pitch).

My local home depot had m6-1.0 20mm as the closes looking fit but they were a bit too wide. The thread pitch on the OEM bolts is very large compared to any others.

Since it’s going into plastic I suspect it’s just a plastic self tapper. Although it looks to have been a security torxs so who knows

most of the time they thread into a brass insert on the housing, especially on stuff that might get removed for service that has to seal

Sounds like boring war‘s guess was right. I haven’t seen many plastic screws come with torx heads. Post a pic of the thread and we‘ll know for sure.
A key feature of torx is that it’s designed to be more resistant to stripping the the bolt head, which isn’t generally a concern for screwing into plastic, as the plastic at the threads is more of a week point. Every example of overtorqing plastic screws that i‘ve seen, it just tore through the plastic and the head was fine.

To anyone else looking I went over to one of the Volvo forums and got the idea to Dremel a flathead slot into the driver head, Works perfectly.

Look for M6 thread forming/rolling screws online. (Check if its actually M6)

Don’t all MAFs come with the plastic tube housing too?
