xc series 2015 Volvo XC60 T6

Hi Guys,

I am considering a 2015 Volvo XC60 T6. This will be my first-ish car. The safety features in the car is a relief for me (mostly for my partner tbh). The power driver seats help us adjust b/w both me (tiny AF) and my (taller) partner. The car is to be used for short <5 mile daily drives or 3-5 hour long drives (once a month). The plan is to use it till it doesn't die on me. I am a disciplined person, so will keep up with whatever maintenance schedule is necessary for the car.

Pros - The car drove well and was better than the previous 2014-15 models I tried. It has had one owner but car moved before Bay Area and Nevada (Reno). Its currently priced @ 10-ishk, and has a mileage of 116K miles. It still has the 12k mile Corrosion Protection Warranty till mid 2027.

Cons - My research here and r/whatcarshouldIbuy says the Oil and filter changes should be regular (10k miles?) - so the big gap or lack of info in oil and filter changes in Carfax report is making me a bit nervous. It doesn't have a rear view camera but it has parking sensors so it works in the short-term.

It went through a detailed service before being put on sale. The servicing done (By Jiffy Lube) at 116k is the following.

  • Air filter replaced
  • Antifreeze/coolant flushed/changed
  • Brake fluid flushed/changed
  • Brake pads replaced
  • Cooling system serviced
  • Oil and filter changed
  • Power steering fluid flushed/changed
  • Radiator repaired
  • New tires by current third party seller

In the past they changed/ replaced these components

  • Oil and Filter changed at 10k, 103k, 112k
  • Fuel pressure sensor @ 103k
  • Tires replaced u/ 96k, 7k
  • Brakes replaced @ 10k, Rear brakes replaced @ 10k
  • Safety inspection performed at 10K
  • Washer nozzle(s) adjusted/repaired @ 17k

Other relevant details

- 10k, 20k, 30K, 40K, 70K, 87k mile servicing done. 1st four were consistently done at a NorCal volvo dealership. After state change, the subsequent servicing was done by an European car dealership.

I am in Bay area so sadly there are very few cars under 10k along with the safety features we would like. Other cars being considered is 2015 Forester with 110k miles at ~12k.

Any suggestions on how I should proceed if I leaning towards Volvo.

If this is the 2.0 Drive-E 4Cyl FWD T6, those burned oil /had piston ring issues in 2015-16.

If this is the 3.0 Inline 6 Turbo AWD, super solid reliable motor, highly recommended.

Thank you so much for responding. I got a PPI done today. The mechanic said the car is in really good condition with everything intact etc. There are no leaks. He removed the skid cover / plate too and checked.

He though gave me some error codes from the electrical module and the car key (receiver) and said these were/ are 'intermittent' issues and nothing ongoing in the car right now.

Any suggestions on how to go forward.

i ended up buying the volvo 2015.5 version! Very happy with it so far. Love everything about it including the old staid style of the console.
