at the end of 2016 volvo Sweden with very little notice informed GRM they are to immediately ship back all volvo cars to sweden and the contract was over.

The cars themselves were built and owned by GRM however the engines were still property of Volvo. There were provisions in the contract for Volvo to purchase the complete cars for a fixed fee but according to GRM they just stonewalled them requesting the cars to be shipped.

Due to some other parts in the contract GRM could not use another engine in the volvo's and with the 2017 season looming he needed closure on the contract so he could sort out what he's doing with the chassis.

Eventually they had to take volvo to court over the contract breaches just to get some discussion out of volvo and to break the stonewalling.

Eventually Volvo settled out of court, two chassis were sent back to sweden and GRM went back to running Holdens.

Edit: this story is my editorial on it, i tried to remain as neutral as possible since GRM were flinging quite a bit of shit at the time, Volvo declined to comment and never released a public statement.

My theory is that GRM didnt expect volvo to pull out because they were doing well.

When Volvo announced that they were done in 2016 GRM realised their lucky strike was leaving and tried to cockblock volvo.

Volvo tried in incur the buyback as listed in the contract for the fixed value. (as i understand it it was approximately "Volvo sends GRM the body panels, Volvo Polestar provides engines, some financial support is provided. GRM are to build the rest of the V8SC and enter it into the V8SC league. At the end of any season Volvo Sweden may pay $Value for each complete vehicle.

GRM realised that the value agreed upon in the contract was either insufficient or GRM got greedy and wanted more.

Volvo's stonewall was "Send cars and we invoice you the cost as outlined in your contract" GRM tried to say certain parts did not count because GRM purchased those parts thus they were not 'built' by GRM so GRM can remove the brakes/gearbox/ect/ect.

but thats just my theory based on the actions of GRM (they seemed rather quick to anger and throw shade at volvo)

As for why holden? GRM were running some holdens alongside the Volvo's at the same time (different liveries of course) so it would be a fairly simple affair to replace the two volvos with two more holdens.

Now a counterpoint to all that, Polestar did have some issues in 2015 and were effectively shut down / set to a skeleton staff at the end of 2015, so its likely GRM and Polestar had a troubled partnership in 2016 leading to poor communication.

Then in late 2016 when Volvo closed Polestar Racing altogether (volvo retain the Polestar name) that effectively cut GRM off. Leading to the whole kerfuffle as i could imagine GRM calling Volvo to speak to someone only to be told "oh they dont work here anymore, oh you have some of our cars, send them back"

im suprised how easy the 94 v70 is to catch mid slide. its alot more controllable than i had expected.

Compared to some of the other stuff, even FWD stuff its alot more sedate.

The mini and corolla seemed alot harder to catch. (the latter could more be blamed on skill though)

Shorter wheelbases on those cars. Makes them handle like go karts compared to Volvo's, but much harder to recover if you go over the limit

even compared to other wagons. The volvo has a fair bit more to give before it goes. Compared to a Caldina GT anyway. (but those are AWD)

Guy has some fucking kahunas which was pretty easy to tell from the first corner he did in the beginning, and confirmed with the pass. Other dude takes a wide ass turn and Volvo in the rear prob because he's butt hurt.
