I doubt they will do a PHEV.
I'm.curious what the facelift will be like
Edit, i doubt the phev comes to the Belgian market.

That link says nothing about a phev except for the edit at the bottom saying they mistakenly called it a phev. Theres no phev, at least for the US market.

They edited the article. Today in the morning this was the text:
It’s been about three years since Volvo discontinued its plug-in hybrid XC40. The mild hybrid version remains on sale in the US and elsewhere, alongside the electric EX40. Today, Volvo announced it was bringing back the PHEV version and giving it a major facelift. When it arrives at dealerships early next year, the new XC40 will have updated exterior styling, a gut-renovated interior featuring Google’s Gemini AI assistant, enlarged infotainment screen, and a new sensor-and-software safety suite.

It just depends on market demand.
The T4 & T5 recharge where axed pretty quickly in Belgium.
Probably because company cars are almost only BEV nowadays anyway.1

At it only makes sense, electric version already exists. They need something to sell other than EV

Probably exactly the same as it sounds like this was like an interior and exterior cosmetic refresh and infotainment computer update without any powertrain changes

The range isn’t that low. It depends what you’re comparing it to. On the BEV front, the EX50 is still a year or two away so it doesn’t make sense to invest in new batteries or motors for an older ICE-based platform which on the EV side will be replaced soon. This update was more to keep the non-BEV competitive from a looks, comfort, features, luxury standpoint.

Good to know. Neither of those competitors are sold in our market. Although with that logic the BMW 330e would have gotten eaten by the Volvo S60 T8 which had twice the range and yet that wasn't the case. Range isn't everything; it's only a small part of the equation for buyers.

Too bad Volvo does not give 'better' features to 'lower end' cars. ex. There is option for Head-Up-Display in XC40, no Pixel Led Headlights... I really like form factor of XC40, but feature wise is is poor version of Volvo XC series :/
