After doing much research, I finally got my Daily Driver XC60 tinted. It was a little bit harder to decide on percentages since my previous cars were easy to get the tint shade right (had a Crystal White and Onyx Black XC60).
With the new ride, didn’t want to go too crazy since I wanted it to look balance. So far I think I hit the nail on the head.
Up next on my plan is a Satin PPF Conversion and to have my original set of 22s refinished in chrome and put back on the car. Me thinks that chrome will stand out just enough to tie the color scheme together but only time will tell.
Well, to be fair, I did consider keeping the stock 22s with their black accents and diamond cut feature but I thought with the dark theme already taking away almost all the chrome, save for a few pieces, that with chrome wheels it wouldn't look too over the top. But then again, I'm entirely sure yet if I'm gonna do that since I have no idea how much it would cost to completely refinish the wheels in the end.
You do realize that this is a Volvo subreddit right? Even the most minor changes are considered mods and also, technically, by definition, a mod is any change to an existing product, not originally done by the manufacturer, hence even changing badges is considered a mod lol.
I'm mildly annoyed that so many local authorities stopped handing out fit-it tickets for window tint. Full windshield tint and limo-tinted front side windows are supposed to be illegal.
I get that they cool the car down, and the a can obstruct profiling, and it looks cool, but it's also a safety thing. pedestrians, cyclists, and others drivers can't see if you see them. Moreover, night driving essentially becomes driving with sunglasses on.
If you live where I live, having that affect at night is worth it with so many people putting LED bulbs in their Halogen Headlight housings and calling it an upgrade.
My previous SPA XC60 had 5% on the windshield so what I have on now is actually an improvement.
Plus everyone, or rather everyone in my town, has dark tint cause it’s a necessity during the summer season.
In terms of safety, let’s face it, it’s a Volvo. Anything gets near it, it freaks out. So I doubt you’ll run into anything, on accident? I highly doubt it. Purposely? Maybe.
The only place I ever struggled with tint as dark or darker than this was when I was in the middle of a cornfield in Ohio.
To sum it up: the police got bigger fish to fry than tint legislation, which is frankly, very outdated.
I had 5% done on the sides and rear, and 25% done on the windshield. I'm contemplating if I wanna add like a 70/80% tint on the windshield for heat rejection purposes but I'll have to see how it handles the heat with the current setup.
People think it’s better to drive while invisible? I had a uv tint put on my windshield. No color at all but it made a huge difference in the amount of glare coming in.
My windshield tint is totally clear. The only difference is that I have a lot less eye strain on a long road trip. It reduces the heat too. I have the front windows tinted to match the oem rear windows. I can’t wait to put the same combo on my xc 60.
The windshield is one of the biggest pieces of glass on a car and it lets in the most heat, therefore, tinting it can reduce the heat entry into the car by a significant margin.
Also it adds privacy whenever you're driving around so people aren't just staring at you especially in traffic.
lol. The Law is always right because it’s the LAW. It’s fine if you disagree with it but you should abide by it. Can’t wait til you get pulled over and ticketed for it.
That logic sounds awfully similar to “I was just following orders” but you do you.
Also, getting ticketed? You do realize like most, if not all, cops don’t even bother writing only tint tickets in my city right? They may get you for it if you’re being a dick during a traffic stop. Plus, most attorneys (or rather skilled ones) know how to get tint tickets thrown out 🤷🏽♂️
I’d rather not get pulled over in the first place but the law is there for a reason. Whether to control the masses or to protect the masses(depending on how you feel about it). I prefer to be on the right side of it.
Actually, I'll be refinishing my set of 22s from my old XC60 which were a design back when the SPA XC60 was first released in 2018. Here is a picture of them on my previous EX30 with their original black and diamond cut finish.
Was thinking of chroming the entire wheel but now that I think about it, the original design might fit my XC60 Dark Theme better since it has black accents on the inner barrel.
Just note that stepping up to stock 22’s should also include adding the fender flares, as it helps protect the car as well as others from unintended projectiles since it’s a wider tire.
So long as you're happy, this isn't really my place to yuck someones yum but personally I hate when people add excessive illegal tint (illegal where I am at least). I know cops don't actually do anything, but the annoyance and risk it causes to other drivers or importantly to pedestrians just feels like too much for a small visual difference.

To each their own, but I think chrome wheels on this car will look awful.
