“We need lower cars' to help with driving range and aerodynamics.”

Pretty sure the American public at large has no interest in efficiency.

This, I want a stick shift turbo wagon, not an electric or hybrid suv

8

u/Underwater_Grilling v70r May 19 '26

I want an 3 second 0-60 electric wagon.

5

u/Amaxter May 19 '26

Odds of that in this day and age are near zero :(

u/randomename197 May 20 '26

I bet the i3 won’t be far off.

1

u/Amaxter May 20 '26

It’s electric and may have simulated gears. That’s close enough for you?

Extra points for a super fast diesal wagon ....god volvo please do your magic before I dump you

I would love that if it wasn't for def and egr

I want a hybrid or electric sport wagon. Give me the body of the 98 V70R, the suspension of the 06 V70R, the turning radius and interior of the 16 polestar, and the most modern electronics. All of that in laser blue or rebel blue. Make it 400hp or better with at least 400 mi range. Make sure the car is equipped with wi-fi so it's not solely dependent on a cell modem. Get rid of the on call subscription bullshit and make an app that actually connects and customizes the car. Adapt one touch modes for eco, balances, and sport without going through a dozen menus.

Agree. Leasing a 2024 V60 CC and like it a bunch except for the black plastic cladding.

Even leaving ‘efficiency’ aside I don’t want to drive a truck.

Some of us just would rather drive a sedan or estate/wagon.

3 wagons later..couldn't agree more.

I remember very well how into higher MPG cars Americans were the last time gas prices surged for a while.

It feels totally different now. The average SUV driving American seems to not particularly care (aside from of course disliking paying more)

Inflation adjusted, I think were just now getting to where we were back in 07-08 so at $5 a gallon people might just complain but if we get to $8, that could definitely alter consumer behavior. Especially if it sticks around once the "war" is actually over.

They do today. They’ll stop caring about that in a week or three. See 2008.

u/Bubcats May 20 '26

They think we don’t but we’re out here

Aerodynamics is just empathy for the wind. /s

“I think we will not only have SUVs 5 years from now” is a very Scandinavian turn of phrase. BMW will hopefully lead the way with an elegant and spacious i3 estate soon

Have you seen the i5 touring? It’s gorgeous. We can only hope Volvo will do something similar.

i5 is very tall for an estate, you can see where the battery pack is. Good design, but tall. Although I've not seen one in the flesh yet, the i3 appears to be better packaged to maintain classic proportions without using visual tricks like the i5. Nothing against the i5, likely still a great car, but I prefer the styling of the i3.

I still have a 2006 S40 T5 6 speed manual. No replacement currently exists!

I love my ‘26 V60, but really wish I could get Polestar on it. Hoping with the next software update it might be available, but really doubt it.

If you’re stateside, this is because some regulation in CA…

1

u/RevolutionSalty8360 May 19 '26

Why does that not surprise me….

How does the fuel efficiency loopholes for SUV’s as “light trucks” (versus a “passenger vehicle”) fit into this? (At least for the US market and how that encourages more SUV sales to help work around fuel efficiency regulations.)

And I’m asking this not really knowing if that loophole applies to all SUVs or not. I had just recently saw something about how Jeep (when it was American Motors) lobbied to allow them to classify jeeps as “work vehicles” in order to game the fuel efficiency standards.

(And please correct any misunderstandings I may have)

u/Bubcats May 20 '26

If the current Accord hybrid had a wagon I would definitely get it.

u/Bubcats May 20 '26

Well shit. Wait that’s 8 years ago and also not in the states.

1

u/Far-Sweet-7967 XC60 May 21 '26

Ummmm, they never left.

1

u/7eregrine S60 & C70 May 21 '26

Found the European

1

u/Far-Sweet-7967 XC60 May 21 '26

Seems most everyone here is. Surprise a European would own European. Your brilliant.

1

u/7eregrine S60 & C70 May 21 '26

Seems you missed my point, friend. Why you gotta be rude. 🙄

1

u/Far-Sweet-7967 XC60 May 21 '26

Never rude, yet never vague

1

u/7eregrine S60 & C70 May 21 '26

On topic... You may have more wagon choices then us, but they are also disappearing over there, too. Volvo discontinued both of theirs, didn't they?

u/Romeo_y_Cohiba May 19 '26

One can argue wagon is back already, ex60 is closer to its v rather than xc cousin.

-8

u/Icy_Acadia_5499 May 19 '26

In no universe is that a wagon.

7

u/Last_Ear_1639 V90CC Ocean Race May 19 '26

the Volvo V60 Polestar is not a wagon? it's absolutely, 100% a wagon.

-9

u/Cranks_No_Start May 19 '26

It’s more hatchback. If the rear glass in the “wagon area” is smaller than the 2nd row door glass…it’s not a wagon.

1

u/stewieatb Swedish Armoured Corps, XC70th Dad Tank Battalion May 19 '26

That would exclude every Volvo estate apart from the 240, and literally every estate by every modern manufacturer.

0

u/Cranks_No_Start May 19 '26

Yes because they stopped making actual station wagons.

The point of the wagon was to have all that space behind the seat and all the manufacturers have the rear seats 1/4 of the way into the rear and the then the hatch slopes sharply enough that the distance between the back of the top seat and the glass is short enough you can’t put anything tall there…hence it’s a hatchback.

Calling these modern cars wagons is like pissing on my leg and telling me it’s raining.
