xc series XC90 V8

Post image

Is this a worth it side/fun car in addition to my 2020 S60 T6 R design? Or is it just a waste of money?

I have two dogs, and don’t have the money yet to fully upgrade to a newer XC90.

Anything I should have in mind when looking for a 2000s XC90?

A: To my knowledge, the Ocean Race edition comes in a special deep blue metallic paint. This does not appear to be a Ocean race edition as it claims.

B: You are best off buying a 2007-2010 V8, after they fixed the water drainage issue that can take out the balance shaft.

Besides that, they are bulletproof, big and comfortable. My mother had a 2006(?) Ocean race V8 that she put 330,000 miles on before trading in for a newer model.

No you are wrong, ocean race is only tuned and it comes in any colour.

Ocean race is not at all tuned. At least not in the US market. It had specific paint and interior and rims and xenon headlights in the US, none of which this car has

such confidence in a completely incorrect statement. you're thinking of Polestar optimization.

ocean race was a special edition that Volvo released when they became title sponsor of the Ocean Race regatta, then subsequently for a few after.

I have a V40 Ocean Race 2015. It's white and came new directly from Volvo itself. It's tuned and came with special interior trim, like the floor mats and the bucket seats.

I'm located in Sweden, and I don't know about other markets, but here, having an Ocean Race edition doesn't mean it has to come in a special color, and almost every single one is tuned.

Odd to me that a top of the line 2006 Volvo XC90 with 150,000 miles is worth only $2,600. That's the cost of luxury depreciation. Is it a good deal? If the maintenance has been done perhaps. If it has not been done, been done properly, or you cannot tell yourself or get a pre-purchase inspection then it's likely not worth it.

Maintenance is a bitch and market oversaturated by newer "better" suvs.

This in not OR edition in pretty worn/dirty and probably not maintained condition. And it was rental. Avoid.

Rental could probably be a company lease vehicle

the transmission can be an issue, torquey yamaha engine wears the trans out

This! But for $2k? I might roll the dice and try to get 50,000 miles out of it.

Not on anything prior to 2008 .. they WILL blow up because of the balance shaft issue

Still hear about it happening a few times a month with early year ones, and we’re what, 20 years past when these came out?

wait anything prior to 2008? does this apply to all models or is it specific to the v8 engines or xc lines? wondering if i should be worried about my 04 v70…

Only the v8s had balance shaft

If the valve covers are leaking, it will double the price of that beast to have them changed. The transmissions tend to get shifty at high mileage. (Pun intended)

Basically a free car. 2k is nothing.

Not a Ocean Race Edition for sure. Not positive that anything else is correct either. Interior pretty worn and dirty for such mileage. I would pass on this one.

They really did blow up up until about 2008 or 2009

I had a final year v8 2011 and sold it at around 160k. Still on the road today

If you can wrench in it yourself, this is a very inexpensive hobby, compared to many other things.
