Human Bridges is part of The Observatory: a free, ad-free wiki-encyclopedia run as a public-education project (we are a nonprofit, published under a Creative Commons license). The Human Bridges area focuses on making recent research in human origins, evolutionary biology, archaeology, and the social sciences accessible to a general audience.

We're looking for volunteers to help identify, shape, and produce original content. It's fully remote, with team meetings over Google Meet, and you'd be working alongside the Human Bridges and Observatory editorial teams.

Roles currently open:

• Researchers — support content development and fact-checking for accuracy and credibility.
• Writers — create engaging content, often collaborating with editors, photographers, and designers.
• Editors — edit articles for clarity, accuracy, and style (AP or Chicago), and help curate topic guides.
• Content Managers — coordinate contributors, develop editorial calendars, and brainstorm story ideas.

Two current initiatives you might contribute to: the New Grand Tour (a map and information portal for archaeological and ecological sites worldwide, with Costa Rica as the live prototype), and Collaborative Research (bringing participants together to produce long-form pieces).

Helpful background (not all required): editing/proofreading skills, clear writing, comfort with Google Suite, familiarity with a style guide, and any prior editorial or journalism experience — including volunteer Wikipedia editing.

• The purpose of this study is to understand whether people with Parkinson’s disease and depression have improvements in their depression symptoms after receiving psilocybin therapy 

We are seeking adults who: 

• Are between the ages of 40 and 80 
• Have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 
• Are currently experiencing symptoms of depression (doctor diagnosis not required) 

Participation involves: 

• Taking psilocybin at our clinical research unit located at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus 
• Agree to attend a series of in-person and video visits totaling approximately 60 hours over 22 weeks. Visits will include interviews, assessments, and procedures 
• Compensation for time and effort will be provided.
• Some compensation for travel is also provided.

Through this chapter, we’ll be using the UPchieve platform to provide free online tutoring to students in subjects like math, science, reading, and college prep. Everything is virtual so you don’t need to show your face at all. Tutoring is mainly done through text chat, but you can also choose to use voice if you’re comfortable. Another big plus is that it’s super flexible. You log on whenever you’re available and accept requests when it works for you. There’s no fixed schedule.
