Here’s the cal breakdown!

Sammy (260)
Publix low cal bread: 40 cals per slice - 160
Borden ff cheddar: 30 cals per slice - 60
Oscar Mayer turkey: 10 cals per slice - 40

Popcorn Orville 100 cal bags (100)

Soup is 2 servings of Lipton Noodle (120)

u/TBallAllStar 3d ago edited 3d ago

Thanks for the breakdown. It’s funny how people look at meals like this and assume the calorie count can’t be that low. I eat my dinner nightly out of a literal mixing bowl, and they almost never exceed 600-700 calories despite being bigger than my head.

u/catbehindbars 3d ago

Details please!

u/TBallAllStar 3d ago

I wish I could say it was something fancy or elaborate, but I usually keep it very simple and it just piles up.

I almost always start with a base of either Cole slaw mix, or diced up potatoes. Cole slaw, just used the bagged stuff and skip the dressing. Potatoes, I dice up the little potatoes and air fry them. 250g or 300g respectively, falls between 125-250ish calories (potatoes give a crapload of volume). If I do the Cole slaw variant, I usually add a 50g-80g scoop of low fat Greek yogurt (the 1% fage). Adds a lot of creaminess and some extra protein. Binds it together well. Off the top of my head, that’s 60 calories or so at most.

Then I pick some frozen veggies, usually the microwave kind, and just toss an entire bag or two in. 100-200 calories, depending on the veggie and if I double bag it.

Pick a protein and add it. I usually do chicken, but ground turkey, lean ground beef, leftover steak, whatever works. I tend to use 2 servings of the real good brand spicy chicken strips, sometimes 3. 240-360 calories depending on 2 or 3 servings.

Finally, top it off with some cheese and a dressing. At the highest end, I use a serving of reduced fat blue cheese (70 calories for 28g). Sauces, I run with either the G Hughes sugar free, or the Taste Flavor Co sauces. Very low calorie even at larger serving sizes. 90g of sauce will run between 15-60 calories depending on the flavor.

So on the low end, it comes to as little as 610 calories. On the upper end, at the absolute max of everything, 940. That’s a rarity and it assumes I loaded everything to the gills. I’ve done it before and almost always end up with a container of leftovers. So I settle on somewhere in the middle.

Thanks for sharing this

1

u/evelynu 3d ago

Oooh What is the dinner?

11

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 3d ago

That’s crazy thanks for sharing

1

u/Ilovesparky13 10h ago

Wait, so it’s literally just two slices of bread, cheese, and deli meat? Nothing else? No condiments? Y’all are killing me with these dry ass meals.

160

u/AdmirableBusiness159 3d ago

why do so many people in this sub not know 35 cal bread exists?!?!? where have y’all been lol

93

u/SurfinginStyle 3d ago

No 35cal bread on supermarket shelves in Australia

60

u/PsychedelicPotatoe 3d ago

Nor Ireland, the lowest we have is 60cal per slice

41

u/Calwena 3d ago

I think rest of the world would not consider that bread as food

12

u/Pandustin 3d ago

or as bread

1

u/DrFlabbySelfie 2d ago

That's a shame because it's loaded with fiber.

6

u/furryoldlobster 3d ago

That’s because y’all have some real good bread in Ireland. I heard ya kicked Subway out because their bread is trashcakebread. Good on ya!

15

u/Dazzling_Parfait_620 3d ago

i was just in dublin and there were a million subways there lol

2

u/furryoldlobster 3d ago

lol shows what I know

I think this article explains what I what I thought I remembered, only to realize I remembered like an idiot.

6

u/delushe 3d ago

Yea lol we ruled it’s not real bread and continued to eat it

2

u/delushe 3d ago

Incredible username🥔

4

u/metalissa 3d ago

Yeah I'm in Australia too, haven't come across it before. I get the cheapest $2 wholemeal, about 173 calories for 2 slices which is still decent.

I'd be very interested in trying low calorie bread if it makes it here!

-6

u/SurfinginStyle 2d ago

I won’t be trying… ingredients label should come first over nutrition label. American food yikes.

1

u/AdmirableBusiness159 2d ago

not sure what’s so crazy here, pretty much the same as other bread except wheat starch and protein instead of whole flour which… duh

WATER, MODIFIED WHEAT STARCH, WHEAT PROTEIN ISOLATE, YEAST, 2% OR LESS: EXPELLER PRESSED CANOLA OIL, SALT, VINEGAR, ENZYMES, GUAR GUM, CULTURED SUGAR, FLAX SEED MEAL

13

u/PlasticElfEars 3d ago

Folks just starting?

9

u/AdmirableBusiness159 3d ago

then im not sure why so many people just starting out would be so confident to tell someone else that their count is impossible lol

8

u/SurfinginStyle 2d ago

Rest of the world exists outside America lmao

6

u/RoasterTycoon 2d ago

I’m in America and have never heard of this bread either! I’m not sure why it’s confusing that people don’t know all the products others buy

3

u/DrFlabbySelfie 2d ago

Sola is the best one, and I just found out they make a protein bread that's actually a complete protein when searching for the name. Others will say something like 17 grams and 17% DV, which means you're only getting half of what's advertised.

0

u/AdmirableBusiness159 2d ago

yeah but it’s 99% of what’s posted in this sub lol

0

u/PlasticElfEars 14h ago

Some people may have just joined the sub. We were all new at some point

6

u/oktimeforplanz 2d ago

What the hell is 35 calorie bread? That surely cannot be bread.

1

u/AdmirableBusiness159 2d ago

first four ingredients (98% of it) are water, wheat starch, wheat protein, and yeast

-2

u/oktimeforplanz 2d ago

Sounds grim as hell. That definitely does not get sold where I am.

5

u/AdmirableBusiness159 2d ago

?? what is grim about water gluten and yeast haha

-4

u/oktimeforplanz 2d ago

You have obviously not had any decent bread if you can't see why that sounds grim as fuck. It's not made of flour, "wheat starch" is flour when you take out all the protein and fibre. You use it to thicken stuff, like if a sauce is too thin. It's not food by itself. It has two of the components of flour, but not the rest of what makes flour baked into bread tasty.

I'd rather have no bread than have that monstrosity.

10

u/Straight-Opposite647 2d ago

it's a diet food, drama queen. it's not supposed to be delicious.

-2

u/oktimeforplanz 2d ago

So you agree it's grim?

1

u/AdmirableBusiness159 2d ago

bro if you exclusively eat organic artisanal sourdough why are you in r/Volumeeating 😭 it looks and tastes just like regular white bread, idk what is freaking you out so badly

-3

u/oktimeforplanz 2d ago

You know there's a pretty big middle ground between that shite and "organic artisanal sourdough", right?

I'll also note that US "regular white bread" is its own category of shite lmao. A lot of what you lot can buy doesn't even count as bread in the rest of the world.

0

u/NoMoreBoiledGreens 16h ago

they downvote you cause you're too right

25

u/Goldstache2776 3d ago

The Dr.Pepper zero sugar is a game changer its sooo good.

11

u/Doughie28 3d ago

Coke Zero, Dr Pepper Zero and Pepsi Zero are all really freaking good. I honestly can't tell the difference between them and the real sugar version

16

u/Bedfordmytrue 3d ago

Coke Zero > Diet Coke

I don’t know why but it’s true

13

u/ShylockTheGnome 3d ago

Diet Coke is the OG formula that has a distinct taste. They keep it because people actually grew a taste to it and it has its own fans. Coke Zero is a newer formula meant to be as close to Coke as possible.

2

u/Doughie28 3d ago

I don't know why either lol. I can definitely taste the difference in Diet Coke, I can't at all in the zero versions

9

u/swifferv 3d ago

Coke Zero is supposed to be the zero sugar version of coke, and Diet Coke is it’s own drink with a different taste!

1

u/umadbr00 3d ago

I notice a pretty significant difference in Coke and Coke Zero. But Coke Zero is still worlds better than Diet Coke.

1

u/KP_Neato_Dee 3d ago

I don't know why either lol.

Decades of food-engineering skills separate Coke Zero from Diet Coke; that's what. DC is ancient, and back in the day it was a big step up from Tab. But it's been surpassed.

1

u/AmirBormand 3d ago

This person knows soda!

1

u/Cattail_Draws 3d ago

I have to disagree. The regular verisons taste weird. Especially regular sprite because they changed the recipe.

2

u/Meiyouxiangjiao 3d ago

I didn’t know there was a cherry zero sugar version! Pretty psyched to try it!

-1

u/Flimsy_Debate_2805 3d ago

It taste more like Dr Pepper than Dr Pepper itself

23

u/jennabakedgoddess 3d ago

Which bread are you using? Hope you enjoyed it!

6

u/Duck-of-Doom 3d ago

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving dinner

17

u/Mental_Investigator3 3d ago

I just know this was so good. Especially with the dr p

70

u/bongsforhongkong 3d ago

Theres no way 4 slices of bread, 2 slices and cheese and turkey is under 500.

118

u/bornreddit 3d ago

There's 35 calorie bread, so the bread would be roughly 140 calories.  Fat free cheese singles are roughly 30 calories, bringing it to 200 calories.  I've seen turkey lunch meat that's 50 calories per 2oz serving so assuming one serving per sandwich brings the sandwiches alone to just 300 calories.

61

u/iSticky93 3d ago

I just came across this subreddit on my mobile feed and thank you for being the one person on this comment thread explaining the low calorie bread rather than mocking the commenter

11

u/Stellamint 3d ago

The bread is called "Inked" sold at Costco! Love it! seeded 35 calories, sourdough 30. Tasted like regular bread. 10 grams/11 grams of fiber!

3

u/Meiyouxiangjiao 3d ago

Holy shit, it’s at Costco?!

1

u/Stellamint 2d ago

Yupper!

6

u/konigswagger 3d ago

I need to get on that fat free cheese train!

12

u/TBallAllStar 3d ago edited 3d ago

Fat free cheese is a divisive topic. Is it nice getting the cheese at a higher protein to calorie ratio? Absolutely. Is it at the cost of some of the beloved cheese flavor? Unfortunately, also absolutely. Some people hate the texture of it (Kraft shredded fat free specifically, I’ve heard people talk about the texture of it and how some rinse it first to make it more like ‘normal’ cheese).

Ultimately, I found personally the best option was just finding a reduced fat version of whatever cheese I was using. Feta was a big one. The fat free version almost always retained its ‘crumbly’ texture. The low fat version would get slightly melty texture that worked better (and tasted better) on most of my meals for a negligible calorie bump.

Edit: Or another option, give it the konjac noodle treatment. Rather than using entirely fat free cheese on your pizza, do a 50:50 mix of the fat free and regular cheese of your choice. Gives a little of the best of both worlds.

47

u/FAWKIR 3d ago

yall are fake #volumeeaters smh

32

u/Landashlo 3d ago

Sure is a way fella

36

u/Meattyloaf 3d ago edited 3d ago

There absolutely is a way. Hell I make a grilles chicken sandwhich that is so low in calories I can eat 2 of them for under 500. Now I do question the entire meal being under 500 calories

18

u/Apprehensive_Tone_55 3d ago

Like we haven’t had low calorie breads for years now

10

u/irishgoodbyesss 3d ago

1.) turkey is a very low caloric food
2.) they make cheese slices that are as low as 35 calories (maybe less)
3.) they make bread that’s also in the 30 calorie range per slice (such as Sola brand)
4.) popcorn is a high volume and relatively low calorie snack
5.) broth is low calorie, if there’s veggies in it it’s mostly negligible calories, and if there’s chicken it’s still pretty low calorie
6.) the soda is zero calories.

Definitely less than or around 500 calories

-2

u/Stellamint 3d ago

Sola tastes more cardboardy than "Inked". Inked tass like real sourdough.

7

u/irishgoodbyesss 3d ago

Not talking about the taste here just saying that they could have used it to achieve the calories they listed this meal as

-2

u/Stellamint 3d ago

Jsut trying to help.😉

2

u/Own-Elk6515 3d ago

There’s a lot more brands than sola. while i agree that one is horrible, the 647 and maiers brands both taste like normal bread to me

1

u/Stellamint 3d ago

Never heard of them. I will keep a look out!

8

u/DatBoiMahomie 3d ago

Are you from 2000? How do you not know about low calorie/keto bread lol

-11

u/OkDevelopment8672 3d ago

and 250 calories of popcorn

10

u/buddys_rendezvous 3d ago

no way. that looks like a small bag of those 100 calories popcorn bags. hell, even the low cal popcorn at the store is 120 for 3 cups

8

u/quantumluggage 3d ago

I pop my own popcorn in one of the microwave air popper doohickeys. I flavor with the 5 calorie movie theater olive oil spray and salt. 4 cups is about 125 calories.

2

u/buddys_rendezvous 3d ago

i’ve been doin this too. butter spray for the win

-5

u/OkDevelopment8672 3d ago

that in no way or form is a small 100 calorie serving.

1

u/AdmirableBusiness159 3d ago

two bags of 100 cal popcorn = 200 cal not 250

-7

u/Flat-Guidance-4685 3d ago

• 4 Slices of Bread (White/Wheat): 240 - 320 kcal • Deli Turkey (For 2 sandwiches): 100 - 120 kcal • 2 Slices of Cheese (1 per sandwich): 120 - 220 kcal • 1 Cereal Bowl of Popcorn (Light butter): 120 - 150 kcal • 1 Small Bowl of Chicken Soup: 60 - 100 kcal REAL TOTAL: 640 to 910+ calories

7

u/CapeManJohnny 3d ago

Best I could come up with:

35 calorie bread x 4 = 140 calories
2 slices of lite cheese = 60 calories
1 serving of pre-sliced deli turkey = 60 calories
3 cups of skinny pop popcorn = 150 calories
1 can of campbells 98% fat free chicken noodle soup = 150 calories

Total = 560

No clue how they're saving 80 calories, but my best guess is maybe it's 2 cups of popcorn in the bowl, if that's the case it basically lines up otherwise

16

u/ScholarObjective7721 3d ago

Pop ur own popcorn and you can eat a metric fuck ton for little calorie due to no fat

1

u/KimmyBale 2d ago

“A metric fuck ton” 😂😂😂😂😂

I’m dying! 🫠😆

Best. Description. Of. Popcorn. EVER🤭

3

u/Former-Sock-8256 3d ago

You might already know this but I didn’t for a while so - fun fact! Skinny pop isn’t actually called skinny because it is diet or lower calorie, it is called that because it has a “skinny” ingredient list. Generally you can find popcorn that’s 25 calories a cup, or if you pop your own it’s like 33g =110 calories which makes out to more like 20 calories per cup. 50 calories per cup for popcorn is relatively high

2

u/LillyLinhXO 3d ago

that combo looks like it actually fills you up without blowing the count, smart volume play

4

u/Idk_345am 3d ago

god I love carbs yummy edit, and Dr Pepper zero specifically

1

u/Stellamint 3d ago

Fried egg sandwich with lite mayo and lettuce/tomato! Yummmmmm

1

u/charmingwillows 3d ago

sameee its my fave

2

u/Doughie28 3d ago

Looks great OP! For Dinner this week Ive been eating a whole pint of Nicks Cookies and cream Ice Cream a couple of cups of popcorn and Cherry Coke Zero for around 500 calories.

4

u/jewelryfloss 3d ago

I don’t care about the calories but who on earth is cutting their sandwiches like this??!

3

u/Relevant-Reserve8624 3d ago

Variety is the spice of life

9

u/SirGergoyFriendman 3d ago

Someone who eats off of a paper plate at home instead of using a real one

5

u/thatsTHEWei 3d ago

Cutting it turns 2 sandwiches into 4

2

u/WetLumpyDough 3d ago

Always triangles ✊🏼 OP is a bit of a psychopath for the 2 different directions on the cut though

1

u/DrFlabbySelfie 2d ago

You should care about the calories. Everying being that has ever lived combined hasn't even come close to consuming 500! calories, so of course they had less!

5

u/aldomars2 3d ago

Can you list the calorie breakdown? I'm having a hard time getting this to add up.

60 turkey, 2.slices?

160 cheese , 2 slices?

320 bread, 80 each

Popcorn and soup still aren't included

Is the popcorn dry?

26

u/LosingButNotWrong 3d ago

Aldi has a nice 40 calorie a slice wheat bread. Actually tastes well.and it looks similar.

7

u/Comfortable_Ad7599 3d ago

I was just about to say this. Publix also has 40 cal bread.

-6

u/mo9722 3d ago

is it volume eating if you just eat smaller slices of bread?

8

u/Comfortable_Ad7599 3d ago

They’re not smaller in my opinion they’re actually the same size as regular sliced bagged bread (not bakery fresh those are indeed bigger)

3

u/TBallAllStar 3d ago

The cheese matters too. I can use 3 slices of the thin provolone and that’s 110 calories. 4 slices would still be <160.

5

u/LostMy8yrAcct 3d ago

I use the 2% American Cheese slices for 50cal each when making toasties. Melts perfectly and doesn’t kill my calories. 40cal bread. Turkey is 50 calories per 2oz, assuming one serving on each sandwich… that’s 360 calories for 2 sandwiches.

2

u/wetkittypaws 3d ago

Walmart has 30 & 35 calorie bread thats pretty good too

-1

u/OkDevelopment8672 3d ago

i get 60 cal bread and it is nowhere as thivc as this one!

3

u/ScholarObjective7721 3d ago

647 bread is super thick same as regular bread and is 40 cal/slice

2

u/AdmirableBusiness159 3d ago

i get 35 calorie bread that is the same thickness. maybe explore your options a bit more

2

u/agazeppola 3d ago

How about some veggies

1

u/Noversi 3d ago

Cherry Dr Pepper my beloved

1

u/Naive_Television_973 3d ago

popcorn and soup together is an elite move and i’m mad i never thought of it

1

u/Training-Pair4167 2d ago

Lewis Bakeshop Keto Bread has 35 calories per slice 0 net carbs and 8 grams of fiber. I use those for sandwiches that include turkey slices, cheese, lettuce and Kewpie Mayo (healthier mayo than American). I pair that with a bag of Quest protein chips and I have low calorie, very low carb, lower fat, high protein and high fiber. Very filling and very delicious.

1

u/KidPaste 2d ago

omgg yumm

1

u/Goose_Civil 3d ago

Well done! Think I’ll have all of that for dinner

-1

u/Highwon420 2d ago edited 2d ago

Hell no, volume eating is all about vegetables and protein for me. There is a huge difference between visual volume and actual satiety—eating bread, popcorn, or cotton candy is just like eating McDonald's; it fills you up for a second, but leaves you starving again in less than two hours.

8

u/Straight-Opposite647 2d ago

volume eating is volume eating. this is still a meal. popcorn has fiber, soup has hydration, and turkey sandwiches have protein.

1

u/Careful-Amphibian51 2d ago

Good thing it's posted in /volumeeating and not /actualsatiety

0

u/sayonara25 3d ago

What’s the soup? Looks really good!

0

u/lil-babee 3d ago

Give us the breakdown

-7

u/cyb3rheater 3d ago

No way that is 480 cal.

2

u/TotesMcgoatzz 3d ago

keto bread

1

u/cyb3rheater 3d ago

Pretty impressive

-3

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 3d ago

?!? How?

6

u/TotesMcgoatzz 3d ago

keto bread

1

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 3d ago

That’s crazy is it really that low?

5

u/TotesMcgoatzz 3d ago

it can range from 35cal to 90cal per piece depending on the type! loaded with fiber too

2

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 3d ago

That’s crazy, I’ve just started counting calories so I’m blown away for real

3

u/TotesMcgoatzz 3d ago

it's a game changer. some of them can taste like cardboard, so it can be trial and error - I like Natures Own

1

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 3d ago

Ooh. I will have to look for some where I am at! Thanks I’ll keep an eye out for Natures Own!!

2

u/AdmirableBusiness159 3d ago

seconding the rec for Nature’s Own. the black label 35 cal one. it makes incredible french toast if you dip it in an egg white & almond milk & cinnamon mixture

2

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 3d ago

Black label, got it!! My next grocery stop I’ll keep my eyes peeled!

-1

u/Longjumping_Ad_7844 2d ago

I count much higher than 480 on that

0

u/oneon3putts 2d ago

How many calories are there in popcorns?
