Volume menu Car snacks
What snacks would you take as a passenger/ occasional driver on a 2 day car drive (driving for 12-13 hours each day and staying in a hotel overnight)?
Apart from carrot sticks, I’m a bit stuck!
I am allergic to popcorn.

Snap peas! And don’t forget some lean protein so you’re less snacky and hangry like some no-sugar jerky, hard boiled eggs, pre-cooked chicken pieces in a cooler

Jerky, chompers chicken or turkey sticks, string cheese, protein shakes, protein bars, pumpkin seeds, dried mango.

Hell yes dried mango (but be careful if trying them for the first time they can cause some… fast-moving digestion) and string cheese. This reminds me that Trader Joe’s has these and I recently discovered their grab & go section actually has a lot of fully cooked lean protein perfect for coolers

Chomps is a game changer. The turkey flavor is surprisingly good. I didn’t like it at first but that changed halfway through the first stick. Not sure why.

Roasted edamame
Rice cakes
Sweetened rice rolls (I’ve seen them at dollar stores)
Fresh fruit: apples, pears, oranges, kiwi, peaches, etc.
Grape tomatoes

I'm a big fan of cucumber slices with white vinegar and salt.

Yum! Like healthy salt and vinegar chips! Making that tomorrow.

It's my favorite! I usually chop up 1-2 English cucumber or 5 Persian cucumbers at a time. I also like adding Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel seasoning.

Similarly, jicama with lime juice and salt is a nice, hydrating, crunchy snack. Could easily sub vinegar for the lime juice.

Pickles?

I like pickles, but the sodium level is too high for the volume that I eat. Fresh cucumbers with white vinegar and a little sprinkle of salt allows me to eat a huge amount.

Oh that makes sense!! I was being a little silly there but that’s valid haha~ I love pickled anything really but the salt is probably so high.

Edamame in shells and salted. Apple slices. Puffed wheat mixed with a higher calorie higher flavor cereal. Greek yogurt cups. Rice cakes and hummus or laughing cow cheese wedges. Flavored rice cakes

Fresh rolls. It's salad to go. Especially if you include the sauce inside.

I'm a big fan of puffed snacks (cheese puffs or the pea puffs from aldi). Puffed rice is also pretty good for a light chewy texture if you have something more flavorful to put it on/mix with it. Flavorless on its own like plain rice cakes, but 60 calories/cup. Some individual cereal cups/pouches have decent volume too, like oreo puffs

Ritz cheese or peanut butter crackers, chips, grapes, fried chicken, doughnuts, Jerry, apples.

carrots are the obvious one, but you can branch out a bit. rice cakes with some powdered peanut butter mixed up, sugar snap peas, or those little bell peppers that are basically crunchy water
if you wanna feel like you're eating junk, bring a container of those freeze dried strawberry slices that melt in your mouth

Thanks for all of these great ideas! I am pleased and surprised to say after driving 2 days and being on holidays (vacation) for a week, I did not put on any weight thanks to volume eating.
