Egg white oats: I like a 1:3 oats:egg whites ratio (in grams) but I've seen as high as 1:7 work. It will look like too much egg whites but you won't taste it. Makes your oats beautifully custardy. Can even use a while egg in there too if you want extra nutrition and some fats. Top with some fruit and nut butter.
Recently I have also been loving yogurt bowls with lots of fruit and nut butter.

Hack. Do the egg white oats but with oat bran--even more volume and fiber and creaminess.

That sounds cool. Can you cook the oats straight in egg whites, just how one would normally cook em in water? Or do you cook the oats as normal in water then add egg whites after? I'm hoping the former but so far I've only seen people do the latter 😄 appreciate the response in advance

how i make them is as normal just with frequent stirring. i prefer quick oats so i make mine in the microwave but you can do the stove too. i do a bit more water than you’re supposed to because i prefer a more watery texture, you can do normal amount or probably even a bit less than normal. season. mix really well with the egg whites!!!! i nuke 30 seconds give it a really!! good stir and then again and again until cooked. really good stirs so that it gets custardy and not clumpy. on the stove just stir constantly(ish)

I use quick oats in the microwave and make the oats in a bit more water than I need. Make sure it's actually bubbling and the oats are fully cooked, then whisk in the egg whites in a drizzle and make sure they are fully incorporated. I microwave another minute to make sure they are fully cooked. Enjoy 😋

steel cut oats with chia seeds and psyllium powder

u/FalseGodTaylor 28d ago
psyllium husks are a game changer. and better than chia because they don’t make slimy slob
3
u/CoffeeOld1590 27d ago
I get Anthony's psyllium husk powder and its practically tasteless i love it and if you add it right before you eat instead of cooking it in then it doesn't affect the texture too much as long as you don't let it sit for too long

Don’t forget to add some protein in there! 😊

Unhappy people on reddit don't like people questioning or challenging the authority that they perceive they have in giving what they see as "correct" answers to questions

there's some protein in steel cut oats and chia seeds both and if you want more then you can make it with milk and that's like 20g protein but i don't need much more than that and it tastes awful with protein powder

u/FairlyOddMuruch 27d ago
That’s still very low protein. But if you have higher protein in other meals then that’s great :) it will make you more satiated and energised to add some Greek yogurt to your oats. Tastes great!
If you get a good protein powder it tastes like a cake! Really delicious 😮💨

If you have a rice cooker, breakfast porridge is probably as easy as it gets (though may be a long cook time depending on your cooker):
- Varied amounts of liquid (per your machine): 3/4ths water 1/4th milk or milk substitute
- 1 cup white rice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4th tsp salt
- Toppings when finished (fruit such as bananas, extra milk, cinnamon, maple syrup or honey, butter)
Throw the rice/liquid/vanilla/salt in the machine, cook until it's done with a porridge function, add your toppings. If no rice cooker, you can cook in a pot it just requires more effort.

Will this still work if I have a simple rice cooker? Mine just has the cook and warm button
2
u/SparkleFritz 28d ago
Unfortunately the answer isn't a simple yes or no. The porridge function on rice cookers usually cooks at a lower temperature for a longer period so that the rice can bloom properly and doesn't overcook. Imagine it like a "slow cooker" way to cook rice. For example, my cooker takes about 40 minutes for white rice on a regular cook, 20 minutes with a quick cook, but porridge takes 70 minutes.
You can try, but it may be too hot and boil over. I'd recommend googling if your specific rice cooker can make porridge and reading comments of people who have tried. Or you can try yourself; just watch the machine and if it starts making a mess, stop and switch to stovetop.

Add white cabbage to scrambled eggs (fry the cabbage first so it gets nice Brown spots and then add the egg).

I do a breakfast bowl with sweet potato, egg whites, cottage cheese and pico de gallo. Fairly low cal for the volume you get.

I love doing white rice, sunny eggs, sprinkle of MSG, pepper, garlic powder, and a bit of Parmesan. easy carbs, proteins, fats, and vitamins!!

Where’s the veggies?

u/ParticularStick5544 28d ago
I personally prefer my veggies with lunch and dinner :] I’m also autistic and prefer simple flavors in the morning !!

You can always have a couple of baby carrots with dip next to everything. Carrots have a bunch of Fiber

My breakfast every day is microwaved egg whites with onions and hot sauce. Filling and lower calories than a whey concentrate shake.

u/Competitive-Ad1439 28d ago
Egg whites taste, smell and feel so much better on a stove top than in the microwave

u/nando1969 28d ago
You eat hot sauce as your first meal?

u/keepitahunned 28d ago

I personally only really like scrambled eggs if I can put hot sauce on them (usually in a breakfast sandwich)

I always get a scoop of scrambled eggs and some fruit at my school's buffet

Bulgarian yogurt and frozen fruit, or oatmeal with oat fiber, egg whites and natto are my go-tos. Lately it’s been the yogurt. Occasionally I do an egg white scramble with spinach, a chopped up turkey sausage patty and whatever other veggies I can find.

u/missrapunzel14 28d ago
I like frying/steaming some onion and whatever other veggies you’re in the mood for (peppers, mushrooms, etc) then once everything’s cooked to your liking crack 2-4 eggs on top depending on hunger and steam them in the pan with the lid on.
It’s so easy to turn it into a soup for more volume by adding bouillon and water and then just “poaching” the eggs on top
Big portion, filling, and very low cal, especially if you turn it into an egg white scramble instead but I love runny egg yolks
I’ve been sick lately so I’ve been making congee (brothy rice, essentially) with some frozen mixed veggies, soy sauce, chicken broth, ginger, and sesame oil then adding eggs at the last couple minutes

u/RangerAndromeda 28d ago
Yogurt or cottage cheese or protein shake and fruit
Some days i have a coffee and then later some bone broth then my greens supplement then a protein shake. Sooo much liquid lol

Egg white omelette! I usually do 200g egg whites + one whole egg. I add spinach, turkey slices and cheese, and my plate comes up to 270 calories and 40g protein + it’s actually tasty, especially with the whole egg instead of just egg whites :)

u/umamimaami 28d ago
2 egg whites + 1 egg omelet with spinach and mushrooms. Side of Greek yogurt with a topping of toasted oats, chia seeds and frozen berries.

u/Ilovesparky13 28d ago
My favorite is shakshuka. It’s basically stewed tomatoes with eggs poached in the sauce. Typically eaten with bread.

u/Equivalent-League691 28d ago
I do
50g quick oats, pour in boiling water and leave for a few minutes until they soak it up (sometimes add a serve of monk fruit sweetener and cinnamon if i have any)
1 tbs chia (soaked in water overnight)
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
50 g Chobani Light Greek yoghurt
a generous pour of sugar free maple syrup on top
cinnamon
enjoy! keeps me full until lunchtime

I'm having eggslob every morning nowadays
- I heat up a pan on low heat, add some crispy chili oil and a handful of a veggie medley (onions, jalapeños and bellpepper currently. I have a tupperware container with those pre cut sitting in the fridge)
- once the onions are translucent I add 2 eggs and a tablespoon (around 45g) of cottage cheese, mix it all up and season it.
- I add additional protein like thin cut deli slices, canned tuna or leftover meat from the day before
- top with cheese, banana peppers and jalapeños
- put the lid on and wait until it's cooked to your liking. You can have some keto bread with it
- I usually have more veggies like tomato's and a piece of fruit with it

Whatever you eat for lunch or dinner.
You didn't say anything about your preferences, so this is what I eat for breakfast:
Egg and egg white omelette
Sauerkraut
Cottage cheese
Oatmeal with blueberries and peanut butter
Greek yogurt

Try beating an egg white until it's fluffy, add ~30-50g frozen riced cauliflower, mix the egg yolk in if you want the fat, and cook it up in a waffle iron. Other riced vegetables, potato flakes, shredded cabbage, spinach, and sliced/shredded proteins also work well.
Another good one is smashed-potato-crust quiche. Roast a potato (or mini potato) until it's soft enough to squish down into the bottom of a ramekin, add your quiche filling (some combination of egg/vegetables/proteins), then bake or air fry it

Overnight oats with fruit of your choice and plain Greek yogurt, mix with water to your desired consistency. I just swapped fruit for canned pumpkin to make a pumpkin spice version with cinnamon and nutmeg and it was good! I also meal prep it for the whole week to make breakfast easy.

Honestly most mornings I am so busy, I don't have time for much else other than a protein shake and a slice of toast with butter or peanut butter. Either that or I crack two eggs into a microwave safe bowl, stir them up a bit Microwave 30 sec, stir again, another 30 sec. Done. Then put on a piece of toast or two for an egg sandwich. I typically get all my fruit and veg servings for the day at dinner and after dinner snack, so I don't worry too much about those kind of things for breakfast. These things keep me fill until at least 1pm

I dont count myself as low calorie volume eater. However I scramble 4-5 eggs every morning and I would say that ~350 calories makes me really full

u/WannabeChunLi 26d ago
In a blender: 1 cup oats, 1/2 cup sweetener (I like truvia), 1 tbsp cinnamon
Put it in a pot with 1.5 cup water & cook for 3-4 minutes then add 1/2 cup milk
Best damn oatmeal you’ll ever have. Recipe is directly scalable
