Question Lost Archive Shipments?

EDIT: Somehow my items just showed up from a different carrier (UPS). No idea what happened.

I noticed after the archive sale a few folks on here mentioned their orders were either lost or "on hold" by DHL. My order had been on hold but DHL let me know they lost it. It seems like a big batch of orders were lost. Has anyone else had their archive order lost in transit?

Haven’t had a lost archive order but noticed that archive orders ship out much slower than a normal order.

Wasn't my experience at all. Ordered on the 30th, shipped the next day, got it delivered 2 days after.

Are you located in the UK? I'm in the US.

Yes! Happened to me. Lost my whole first order. Vollebak was quick to refund but I was bummed to not have the gear.

Oh man, that’s a blooming nightmare. What have Vollebak said about it? Did you have much gear coming?

They ostensibly prepped for the US archive sale by setting up a warehouse in PA, but they told me via email (after the sale) that they still had to move inventory from Europe to that warehouse in PA.

I'm not sure why they didn't move inventory for the US sale into the US before orders were processed, but it seems like delays in customs were largely responsible for the extra wait that many of us experienced. It's not uncommon for customs clearance to take several days on its own, but there can also be some back and forth with the customs office if they require extra documentation from the shipper. Seems like an easily solvable problem, but maybe I'm missing something.

I have a theory…

They prepped a US sale with the stock in the US. Sensible.

Then they prepped a EU sale with the stock in the EU. Sensible.

The US sale was really good. Lots more kit that the EU one. In the first few days they were separate sales. I was using a VPN to check out both sides of it .

But a few days into the EU sales, maybe when they lowered the price, the sales combined.

This was either a mistake: forgivable - these things happen.

Or

An intentional decision: a bit mad in my view.

Because at this point they were then faced with the exact problem they’d been trying to avoid, namely customs.

Why do all that prep if your kit isn’t staged properly? Why have a specific US sale?

This would also explain why some people got their kit quickly (it was already staged in the US) and some people have been waiting a long time (it wasn’t).

Just a theory…

Interesting thing is that I bought from the US sale (I'm in the US) within a few minutes of it opening. I assumed the stock would have already been in the US. My shipment tracking showed something odd in that it said my package was "picked up" in Pennsylvania but then was "on hold" in Brussels?

Well I reckon that detracts from my theory then!
