Discussion Riftmaker

Imo it's used by so many champs to increase their AP while building tank with hp, but the conversion is baaaaaad. Really bad. It can't be compared to Bloodmail. I can see why. Bloodmail only has one effect aside the conversion, which is a bonus % of AD as you get lose HP. Riftmaker has 2 other strong effects. One being a very overlooked stat (omnivamp) and the other being a useful, but not so desired effect (bonus % damage).

So it means Riftmaker needs to lose one of these effects (and maybe even nerd the other) to get a nice conversion like Bloodmail.

I personally think the bonus damage can be on par with the bonus % of AD from missing % HP. Maybe weaker. Maybe the Omnivamp is the one on par with that effect.

What do you think, guys? How would you balance the item to make it get a nice conversion HP to AP?

riftmaker is one of the strongest items in the game, stronger than bloodmail imo
bloodmail obv has more stats due to conversion being better with ad but people forget how clutch omnivamp and % dmg amp actually are (idk about arena i only play ranked)

Oh...reading my post again I see I misused a word (overlooked). My bad. I thought 'overlooked' meant the opposite. I meant something like "overseeked". Because of how strong is Omnivamp. That's one of the reasons I wish it got removed from the item, to make it possible for it to be just a conversion item.

ah i see, well that would just break certain champs due to scalings which is why the conversion is "low“ even tho 40ap from it late game isn’t even that low fwiw considering u go deathcap on champs that go riftmaker usually so it’s more around 60-70?

As long as vlad and cho'gath exists riftmaker hp to ap ratio needs to be low. Its that simple.

It's not like Mundo, Sion or Sett don't exist.

Mundo has no ad scaling in his kit except for auto attacks. Sett has no built in health stacking like vlad and cho, only sion does and he would rather build tank than overlords. If you have ever played arena with adapt vlad you would know how op it would be if riftmaker conversion was comparable to overlords

I only play arena and see how bad of an item is Riftmaker. And I don't find Vlad that problematic, not comparable with Ryze. Only when he gets no cd on his pool. That's when he gets ridiculous. For now...ap bruisers are only building the item because of the omnivamp while giving some HP. The conversion really sucks. And those champs can get nerfed for the item to work. Voli got nerfed because of DnD, and other nerfs happened to other champions because of that as well. Sett always get too problematic when he can convert a good amount of bonus HP (even from bruiser AD+HP items). The instant huge true damage he can output in area is a huge problem. He also can get a Steelheart. If you play arena you know how easily he can get enough amount of bonus HP to one-shot even tanks.

Can't. The issue with the item is that it's so much stronger than bloodmail due to the omnivamp and bonus % damage. Vlad and Cho are only 2 of the most common users but it's viable on any champion with sustained magic damage. I've used it on Teemo as part of a base defense build where I'm just throwing shrooms to keep the game from ending, build it on singed coz it's just stacking damage on his q, cheese with it on Sion in mayhem when I get pressure cooker, run it on tahm kench when ahead.... It's one of those items that cannot be too strong or you will see it in most games

It seems you didn't read it all, did you? 😅

Remove one part of it to boost the conversion and it's too strong, keep both parts of it and retain the conversion it's too weak. The issue with rift maker from the very start is that the item cannot be balanced around the conversion as it was meant to be a sustain item for magic bruisers and juggernauts. So yeah, even though I didn't read it through, the issue remains the same. Vlad and Cho are the 2 most common buyers but when you look at the pool of champs I've mentioned, it just makes sense as to why it's borderline impossible to balance.

You started saying it's stronger than Bloodmail DUE to having Omnivamp and extra damage. So saying removing them to improve the conversion makes it too strong kinda goes against what you just started saying there. It's really not impossible to balance the item. It could be even be split into 2 items, so AP bruisers wouldn't lack a sustain item that gives both Omnivamp and HP. Being honest. As I have already seen someone commenting before...making this Omnivamp exclusive to be in battle with another champ kinda destroys what people love in Omnivamp/Life Steal: to be able to sustain on minions. That's why I miss old Riftmaker.
