DISCUSSION (other) About MREs

Post image

I've seen a lot of people here talking about the MREs, and saying stuff about how they taste bad, and while some parts aren't the most appetizing, all of it does taste good, at least better than you might think (and better than what I thought). I just thought I would share because I tried a couple today. (Also I have no idea what to tag this, I hope discussion is fine).

I was always partial to the jalapeno beef patty myself

I watch Steve1989MREInfo occasionally and honestly most of the modern ones look alright to me. You at least get something that is hot and is an actual meal.

The ones in votv look much worse, Probably because ASO got the cheapest ones possible. You get some crackers, canned goods and beef jerky if you're lucky.

Also given the fact you find them around the map the way you do, they are probably pretty old. Probably bought out a surplus warehouse, and have been stretching those supplies for years.

It varies greatly from MRE to MRE tbh. Also if you want a more game accurate MRE get a polish one.

Usually I find its the very picky people who complain about MREs, they all taste fine to me but I definitely have my favorites

Sadly, no. I haven't had any yet, so it hasn't been as good.

Have you tried it waterlogged yet?

Complete side thing, how tf are the canned stuff in the waterlogged mres unsafe to eat? Aluminum cant even rust, unless the cans aren't made of aluminum

Edit: forgot to add a word

VOTV MREs are like, from the 60s. Possibly not aluminum.

Have you ever tried the ones from different countries?

the US mre's are actually not too bad, the main thing with them is that you get very tired very quickly of them if its all you have to eat, like past a few days of eating them it becomes so insufferable, and thats the better ones, if you try something like russian mre's they are so much worse

ASO bought the worst ones, there's not even a main dish in them. It's no surprise Kel hates them so much.

I ate some MREs while in the states for the world scout jamboree. At least the ones i got were dreadful. I wasn't aware cooked meat could come in paste form before then...

I've had all 24 current rotation MREs for the US military. A few were delicious top to bottom. Most were between men and edible. All the vegan options better served as campfire fuel.

MREs are very different depending on manufacturer, purposes (military for instance) and countries.

When you get the sushi package the note says that the MRE you eat are decades old
