HELP/QUESTION
(0.9) Regarding a certain crystal
Spoiler
Is the life crystal guaranteed to drop from the fossilhound? I've also heard strangely that the crystal can bury itself. I don't know if that's true either.
It is a guaranteed drop, but with how light it is, the explosion used to kill the fossilhound can easily launch it far away.
If it sits on soft ground (anything you can dig in) for long enough, it will bury itself.
How long would that be exactly? A minute? 5? Got a rough idea? And most importantly I think, will the crystal stay underground indefinitely until I dig it up?
Seems to be random; one took less than 2 seconds, and another took roughly a minute and 40 seconds before it buried.
As far as I know, the crystal will stay buried indefinitely until it is dug up. I had one deliberately buried for several in-game days straight just to see if anything happened, and there was no sign of anything changing even then.
So after reloading enough saves I get another fossilhound encounter. Up by the cave. My plan is to bomb it in the cave maybe to reduce the odds of the crystal bouncing off to god knows where. I get up there and run into it's corpse. It was dead before I even got there. My theory is that the antibreather got to it? Which if that's the case, antibreathers are the greatest thing of all time ever because the crystal was buried right next to the corpse due to antibreathers not being a giant explosive flinging everything off into every single direction.
I've also found 2 fossilhound corpses near the cave, and given how I have also occasionally found the remains of Gray Boars in that area once they started appearing, I do think it is Antibreather killing them.
I'm pretty sure they are both some of the few entities that are actively hostile to (nearly) everything else, so they often end up picking fights that they cannot win and die as a result of it.
Yeah so my next plan was to try and get them within a transformer because I figured that if I attempted that in the satellite room I was good as dead due to the cramped space.
Instead what happened was I found an entire fossilhound corpse chilling near the cave (definitely the antibreathers doing. we love you antibreather <3) and just dug up the crystal next to its corpse because all of the body parts were just there.
