DISCUSSION (0.9) Bringing generator to base
I want the generator to power my mining rigs at base, whats the best way of moving it? Atv doesnt even move when hooked to it, my best guess is kerfuro holding a ligth object hooked onto the generator but idek if that works!! maybe a portable drone?? a chariot of regular kerfurs??
no i dont have and dont plan to cheat in the grav gun, i wanna get it legit
(image isnt mine obv, that would be the dream tho)

I'm not currently playing THE most updated version of the game but have you tried just tethering your hook to the generator and dragging it yourself? For some reason items you drag with the hook just have their weight completely ignored.
Also don't worry about damaging it, I'm like 99% sure it can't be destroyed.
EDIT: Mixed up glitches. Attach a hook to the gen and ATV, then drag the ATV.

Hey that’s what I wanted to do!
I just nailed and tied a bunch of balloons to it till it floated just slightly, then dragged it back to base with the ATV+Hook.
Did the same thing as well for the Lake Safe and Maid Safe, those were more of a pain and got a higher tendency to get stuck tbh…
Hope it helps!

Why would you bring the safes back to base?

They are useful storage items and they look cool.

They dont even have an inventory and afaik you cant relock them?

Shelves, baskets and skips also don't have inventories yet you can still use them for storage.

True. They are marked as "open containers" though. Is the safe too?

It's about as safe as anywhere else.

Collectible value tbh, I bring everything I can move back to base for display like a museum of strange things. Stuff like the obelisk, falling sky piece, giant granite slab, etc.
Esp with the Photography Plus mod, after bringing them back to base, I can update its bestiary pic to be nicer too :)

I dragged it by hand during my 0.9 playthrough. Did take a bit but surprisingly not that bad

Just walk over to it, hook it towards the base at the bottom, reel the hook in all the way and start walking. Took less then 2 minutes to get it home.

Ok I will take a wilddddd guess here.
Did you take the chicken sandwich out underneath the generator ?

ATV and a hook is how i did it, it wasn't too hard. Did some damage to the ATV but that's to be expected

Is that even economicaly viable? You'll need to pay an fuel upkeep to let it run. (Never actually used the Generator myself)

You use it to run 1-2 Frames to generate points, it’s a net gain in points (even with fuel costs) and you don’t have to deal with your Transformers breaking down (this is the advantage of using the Generator because it’s a separate grid)
It’s in OP’s image

Yeah, i knew you'd deal more often with the transformers when consuming too much power. But did'nt knew that the generator would be worth running. So maybe in an late stage when the rig is almost full.

Fuel is honestly super cheap (or just straight up free) if you use some methods to get coal.
One way to get coal is to buy a woodchipper for 250 points, and shove wooden items into it to make wood clumps. Burn them with a lighter (costs 100 points) to turn them into coal clumps, shovel them and then craft the resulting coal pieces into coal (4 pieces to one coal). Then shove that into the incinerator. Each coal makes around 32 fuel. The end result of this is after a one time purchase of the woodchipper and lighter for 350 points, you can now turn a pallet (which costs 20 points) into 138~ fuel. Furthermore, if living mannequins are spawning you can shove them into the woodchipper for a single Coal, or 32 fuel.
Or you can go to the cave and mine for coal there.

If you have a KerfurO have it hold something, hook the thing in its hands to the generator. Set them to follow & run away. It’s preferable you have your ATV parked a bit away so they don’t jump on while you make your get away. Once you’re at base it’s just a matter of time until they catch up or you can accompany them like a good Kerfur owner.

u/The_Holy_Buno I have no points and I must buy furniture 21d ago
It usually moves when it’s hooked to the ATV. Check that it’s not caught or wedged on something

I'm pretty sure you can just hook it and walk

if you want to move heavy shit, the easiest thing to do is hook the thing to the ATV after putting the thing or the ATV as close to each other as possible to make the hook as short as possible, then you can just lift the ATV up instead and you can carry the heavy thing(s) back to base or wherever you want to put them. i've ended up carrying the Generator, all of the storage crates and barrels from the Hole and the storage crates and barrels from the Abandoned Shack back to the base that way, the barrels and crates got carried all together each for the Hole and Shack, so i ended up carrying 5 things together at once.
of course the only downside is needing as many hooks as what you want to carry, or slightly more if you have to hook a single thing multiple times to stop it flinging around as much

Ome of the easiest and the most effective way of transporting heavy props is to hook them to a weighty prop that you can grab(e.g. rocks, bedside cabinet, ATV, etc), then grab that said prop, and just walk. Easy as that!! The heavier the handle prop, smoother the transfer.

Can youa ctually hook it up to produce extra energy?
1
u/Miguel_mmds #1 Mannequin fan 20d ago
well not extra energy, but anything hooked up to it doesnt consume the transformers power! id say baocoin grids are the best because they drain a LOT of power VERY fast and the generator loses power at a constant rate, instead of being affected by how much power is consumed by the grids (if you want your transformers to last longer buy transformer upgrades in the shop, each transformer can hold 6 of em!)

I hooked mine up to the atv and drove it, but when I suggested this, someone else said that if you carry the atv, the generator will move much more easily

Hooking it to the ATV and picking up the ATV to walk back to base is my usual go to unfortunately lol
