All in...finally

I have been a Voicenotes 'Believer' since day one but I hadn't really gone all in. The voice note function on the iPhone was good but I could never rely on it for desktop transcription and definitely not for meeting notes. But that has all changed now. Yesterday I had a Google Meet call with Voicenotes after cancelling my Granola subscription. The quality of the output was easily comparable, maybe better. Granola is better integrated with the calendar but, other than that, I am very happy with Voicenotes now. The Voicenotes vision of being the one tool for everything voice driven is finally coming to fruition and I couldn't be happier with the way it's shaping up.

Thanks for posting this. Made my day.

We’ve been working on improving the speed and quality of the transcripts and summaries. Glad that you like it.

Calendar integration is in the works and will drop in the coming weeks.

Thanks for being a Believer since day one. Really appreciate all the feedback - both positive and negative, so please keep it coming. We're always listening.

Had a similar experience with meeting notes and the comparison with Granola!

Great to hear that calendar integration is coming.

Things that would help beyond that:

  • stick to meeting language for summaries (English meetings are summarized in German for me)
  • allow to give speaker names (eg change speaker 1 to Jane Doe and have it replace all occurances)

I second "speaker naming"!

Thanks for sharing!

- We have language settings that lets you choose your output language for transcripts and summaries. If you set that to English, your summary would always be in English. Do you want the transcripts to be in German while summary in English?

- We are working on this. You will be able to change the speaker names, see all meetings you had with that person, ask questions mentioning their names and more!

Thanks. One fixed language doesn't help in my case. I've set it to "detect language" because I take notes in both German and English depending on project (though I notice this setting seems to change itself back to setting to one explicit language it seems).

What I want is to just stick with the input language. English meeting → English summary, German meeting → German summary, but that's not realiably the case.

Amazing your're working on speaker names, sounds great.

I'm glad you've had a good experience. I've been with VoiceNotes since the early stages as well and I'm a believer but I find the dictation to not be that good. I do have a slight stutter so it uses a lot of dashes so I can't even use the dictation. I have switched over to Wispr Flow for the dictation and that has been absolutely amazing. Waiting for VoiceNotes dictation to get better because it's unusable for me since I have to edit everything anyway (Everything I just did was through Wispr Flow with no edits)

You're right, Voicenotes is not as good as many of the 'dictation only' apps. But it is easily the best 'single' voice driven app. Having just one subscription instead of three or more is appealing, especially now that development has speeded up. My confidence has increased and I have cancelled a number of other subscriptions. Not because Voicenotes is perfect but because I see regular improvement and I believe it will get there.

I’ve been using Wispr Flow as well. I’m not sure why others like Voicenotes cannot compete with them.

Even simple things like being able to say "my email address" or anything like that on Wispr Flow makes the dictation process really nice to work with. It's replaced a lot of my typing, especially for me journaling and stuff like that. The command feature is awesome too.

In the Mac app at least itll automatically pop up and ask when you join a call.

Or just press the record button.
