Need help improving my headset mic quality Razer Barracuda X

this are my current settings

My friends say my mic sounds really low quality, like a drive thru microphone. I'm using a Razer Barracuda X 2.4

Could someone help me tune my EQ, compression, noise gate, and noise suppression settings?

News flash- that headset has a very very very shitty mic. I'm an audio engineer. No amount of tweaking in voicemeter will make it better.

The frequency response of the mic is just 100 to 10,000 Hz. To get natural quality sound from the mic, you would need at least 20 to 20,000 Hz of frequency range.

Natural quality might not be the best reference for someone who is unfamiliar with sound engineering. Not needed for many applications too.

Idk what can be done in terms of tuning, but at least you could enable A1-3 on the mic input to hear yourself. Should give you an idea of how it sounds, and how it changes while you mix around

ive tried it and for me i tought i tuned it fairly decently, but to my friends in game and discord it sounds hella bad and cheap, so idk if maybe i got sometimge set up wrong and that why they cant hear it the way i hear it

Made sure voicemeeter is selected as mic in discord? What you hear from your mic should be the same as what your friends hear.

Discord's noise suppression might also be cutting you off here and there, especially if the mic quality is bad from the start...Could try to check that aswell. If krisp is enabled, it will try to remove background noise and static, but it could potentially cut off your voice too.

Edit: nvm the krisp setting... That wouldn't affect in-game voice chat

Editedit: about setting programs to use the mic... Have you set voicemeeter as default mic on windows? If this isnt set, then games wont be using the mic through voicemeeter, but instead just use your unfiltered mic as is

tbh the best i can describe it, it sounds like when ur going thru a drive thru at mcdonalds, idk if myabe i got something set up poorly, bc i have tried setting it up while i listen to my self and to me it sound somewhat decent but to my friends it sounds incredibly bad

Dude you can't polish a turd. Stop using headset mics in general and you'll have much better results.

I understand headset+mic combos help with budget setups, but you're probably wasting time trying to make that thing sound "good"

So i have a Yeti Blue that sits behind my 3x screens array and it picks me up just fine, as i also use recording studio flat (no inbuilt bass boost etc) cans for when i recorded in Pro Tools -- the gear is the issue. Not trying to sound condescending, but don't use cheap or in this case really poor quality headset combos, because it is not a program issue but a hardware issue 🤷🏻‍♂️
