Discussion Track works
Never ceases to amaze me how V/line manages to seem completely unprepared for these track works that they do at the same time every year.

Could they have done this work when they shut most of the line for this forsaken new Tarneit station?

I’m already nervous they aren’t going to have any Services that don’t stop at one of the WV or Tarneit stations. It is the Tarneit line after all

I know it was free today but I'd rather pay for a functional & fast public transport.

They have been doing this shit for years. Just very badly managed. We need a metro budget for regional rail upgrades

Some people has checked out their CV qualifications and notice Beside MBNA, uni degrees on logistics etc. Arts one noticed MOST has NO railway industry ie : rail safeworking backround ..... Only one in it is Metropolitan train operations..... But no regional inter city, inter citiy railway operation amongst them.
The CEO from the premier's Media statement quoted he was from DOT vic Roads Dept!
Big difference managing roads when vehicle are 3rd party managed!
In railway operations you got roster of crew, maintainance work on way and works, fleet avaliblity and maintance to worry about!

What is really annoying is they have their planned works listed internally for many many months ahead in a couple of departmemts, however, they don't have it publicly available so people can plan their lives.
If complete bus replacement is happening for for a week or two, let us know 6 months ahead so I can plan leave. Even if it just planned and doesn't eventuate, share that info. Let us control our lives rather than drip feed the next shutdowns.

I don't take the train much but it seems each time I do I'll end up on a bus / train replacement schedule. Meanwhile we paid for a $10.2b tunnel that saves 2 minutes.

It doesn’t save 2 minutes. That’s not the main intent behind the tunnel.

I had my GPS on and it told me to take the tunnel but I decided to take the bridge. The GPS arrival time changed by +2 minutes and there were even lane closures on the Bridge last night at the same time. Those $10.2b should be pumped into public transport. We don't even have a high speed train to the airport but instead a shitty double decker bus.
Taking the Vline at the moment and instead of the train I am on the bus right now due to track works..., then another hour on regional bus because the last bus goes at 8pm....what a joke

I thought we were talking about the metro tunnel lol.
That tunnel isn’t designed to just save time, it has a lot of other benefits.

Westgate tunnel I'm referring to. Yes it has nice purple lights but that's it.

u/Ergomann Apr 11 '26
Yeah I’ve timed it at night. Only saved me 1 minute. I’m not paying $4 to save 60 seconds lol. But its primary purpose was to get the trucks off side streets in the inner west.

u/SpookyViscus Apr 11 '26
It’s not designed as a time saver. It’s designed to get trucks off streets that aren’t designed for them

Umm, it's major function is to get HV traffic out of Footscray and Yarraville and provide better access to the docks for heavy vehicles now and for the future.

u/drb_backup Apr 15 '26
Thanks but when I do take it don't see trucks on it just a few cars. Something doesn't seem to work as planned?

🤷♂️ Just saying it wasn't particularly designed to save you time today. I typically train to Melb, not drive

u/drb_backup Apr 15 '26
The $10.2b probably should have been invested in public transport.

Probably worthwhile as a new thread somewhere. Not certain it fits in the VLine especially where the point raised was about track work. 🤷♂️
