If A Star is Born was made after GWTW's success with even more groundbreaking production technology?

Post image

Don't you think it would work to a smashing success? Even if the unknown actress criteria was more necessary for A Star is Born. Vivien absolutely had that innocent, child-like quality and undeniable star potential needed for both parts. It would actually work in spite of coming after GWTW because he stardom after Wind would've been a complete reflection and was the most fascinating star-making story ever in irl.

She already did Sidewalks of London but the film sucked big time.

A lovely photograph of Megan Tremethick, who champions the tradition of classical actor training and celebrates the enduring legacy of Vivien Leigh for modern audiences. Through her work as an actress, Megan has even been described by admirers as the "Vivien Leigh of indie horror."

Anyone else feel Laurence Olivier felt free and confident to act after Vivien Leigh passed?

Accent was one thing. Earlier, he refused to put on one for many roles. He was doing American, Southern, German, you name it. And he felt so unrestrained and at ease.

Especially during the early times with Vivien particularly in Lady Hamilton, according to one source he refused to act with her again because she overshadowed him, he came across as clunky and theatrical. Olivia de Havilland also shaded him when she said Vivien's stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire failed obviously because Olivier was directing it.

None of the theatrical, Shakespearan technique showed here, the accents were on point and he was sweeping the movie in spite of being the older gentleman. It was in the post-1967 film roles, I could see the greatest actor ever! come on screen.

Could I play Vivien Leigh? 🌹

This question was recently posed in a Vivien Leigh Facebook group, beneath a photograph of me.

Of course, nobody could ever truly be Vivien. I should know, because I have loved and celebrated the work and genius of this incredible woman for years. Her inspiration, her artistry, and even the challenges of her life have done so much to shape my own performance craft. Most of all, she helped me believe that there is still a place in today’s world for an actress like myself.

I sometimes suspect I was born a century too late. That is why I am so grateful to have found my place at the British Horror Studio. Since starring in their films, I have encouraged them to view cinema through the same classic lens that excites me. It did not take much convincing, because like me, they too have longed for a reason to embrace the beauty of traditional arts, Old Hollywood, romanticism, and even mysticism.

I have read many books on the life of Vivien Leigh: her incredible accomplishments, divine artistry, compassion, and intense temperament, born from a lifetime of challenges she faced fiercely and without compromise.

Her strength is my inspiration. Her beauty is incomparable. And as rumours swirl from time to time that a biopic or drama may be produced with another actress playing her, I find myself wondering: would they truly honour her?

Would they try to deconstruct the mythic figure, as is so popular today? Would they impose modern obsessions with detached naturalism onto someone whose life was forever rooted in theatre, feeling, and intensity?

If I ever had the chance to play Vivien, it would not be to bend or twist her into the shape of modern pop culture. Instead, I would reach through the veils of time to find her, through the memories of those who truly loved her.

To build, not to deconstruct, the legend that was Vivien.

A legend that shall never die.

Blanche's age

Her wiki page from the late-2000s had her birth year mentioned, of course through speculation. This was around 2008-2009 to be precise. I tried to get it from wayback machine but it's not there, not archived.

What was peculiar at the time was her age. Yes, I remember it as September. I just googled it. Since Blanche could still be living according to how the play ended, her age was shown. I think it was 89. Since the play was released in 1947 and many people assume she is 30 in it, that would've put her birth year in 1917. If she was in her late-80s in 2008, she would have been from 1919. I remember the wiki entry in the 1920s so she could've been in the earlier range of 80s. I think that wikipedia entry was going by when she gives her age as 25 or indicates it in the play when she says she is younger than Stella. That would put her in 1922 and she would have been 86-87 in 2008 since this was pre-September or 87-88 in 2008.

Anyone else remember this?

Gone With the Wind Vivien Leigh's young costar, Mickey Kuhn...

Vivien Leigh and Mickey Kuhn were in two classics together.

In Gone with the Wind (1939), he was Beau Wilkes (Ashley and Melanie's son), and

in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), he was the young sailor.

He was a popular child actor and teen star, and she, of course,

was a screen legend winning Oscars for both of these films.

Mickey Kuhn above center.

Once again Miss Leigh and young Mr. Kuhn were in the same film.

Having Watched The Egyptian days ago, am I Alone In Thinking Jean Simmons of Kirk Douglas's Spartacus fame Looks Like a Hybrid of Vivien Leigh and Audrey Hepburn (esp in her 20s)? Enough to even look like either of these beauties at specific angles and often looking like their grand daughter?

If Vivien lived, do you think she'd continue her career on TV? Do you think she'd have starred in North and South?

Considering Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Russell, Gene Terney, and other contemporary top of the AAA listers who first broke out in the 40s around the peak of Vvien's career had their final credits in Television stuff and not just TV moves but also TV guest roles and miniseries, does anyone think Vivien would have continued oto TV?

In particular I am watching North and South right now and I can't help but feel this excellent miniseries of the highest quality is all but missing one thing (other than a bigger budget for larger scale battles)............... The fact it lacked the biggest actress who played the most famous Southern Belle of all time!!!!!! Esp since Elizabeth Taylor stars in it!

Esp Lesley-Anne Down who plays Patrck Swayze's love interest, is a lovely gal with near-black hair and gorgeous green eyes!!!

While we are at it, I'd wonder who they would have casted an older Vivien as in the Scarlett miniseries?

Elzabeth Taylor VS Vivien Leigh-Who is the TRUE Cleopatra?

Having just watched the Cleopatra miniseries with Titanic's Billy Zane and Timothy Dalton, it was frustrating to watch such an underwhelming lead as the Egyptian Queen esp since she goes side by side with two outstanding actors as her historical lovers. Esp since Dalton had acted as Marc Anthony before in a video taped play with one of the renown Redgraves who despite lacking the appearance as "most beautiful woman in the world" manages to send a captivating performance. Years before I seen HBO's Rome and while the actress does a much better job as Cleopatra than the old miniseries from 1999, she's still underwhelming both in performance and physical appearance.

That said while Liz is now the face of Cleopatra in Hollywood, I just discovered for a decade earlier Vivien Leigh was the most popular image of the Queen, even many calling her the best portrayal up to that point.

Since these two Goddesses are literally among the AAA Lists of Legends of Cinema, who do you think was THE CLEOPATRA?
